Getting their arses handed to them in the comments, it's rather heartening to see that people have really had enough of this.

Although AndyM here is prepared to defend it to the hilt by actively encouraging customers to close their accounts 😬

Awkward conversation with management about the goal being bringing in customers and not telling them to bugger off for Andy in the office tomorrow perhaps!

Has AndyM announced his pronouns yet?

I'm going to guess "xe" will be in there somewhere

Here’s an idea: big B2C corporations should reduce their social media functions to only what is needed to disseminate information about their products and services to customers. Radical, I know, but...

I’ve seen that’s from smaller businesses just getting off Twitter and Facebook and it’s so refreshing to see.

achillestoes · 01/07/2022 17:17

And since we’re about to enter a recession half the social media people will have to worry about their jobs anyway. You have no-frills years and next year will be one of them, sadly for Andy.

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 01/07/2022 17:19

Surely the stock market doesn't care about twitter argy-bargies?!

Blackandwhitehorse · 01/07/2022 17:19

i think I’m next 5-10 years we will see a big shift away from companies using social media, especially in this way.

my job kind of involves it but impact of using it doesn’t show tangible benefits

Deliriumoftheendless · 01/07/2022 17:20

It’s like Viz Gnat West come to life

achillestoes · 01/07/2022 17:20

‘Surely the stock market doesn't care about twitter argy-bargies?!’

It cares about asset withdrawal.

achillestoes · 01/07/2022 17:21

But I suspect the share price drop has more to do with the looming recession and rising inflation.

That makes far too much sense.

Religious companies do not demand their customers adhere to their ideologies.

I guess it would be useful to compare the drop to Lloyds competition.

dropthevipers · 01/07/2022 17:38

Hopefully this will give corporate boardrooms pause before they automatically and unthinkingly employ the "How to make enemies and influence no one" playbook.

I guess people sell stock when they see a company behaving in ways that don’t maximise their return on investment.

TheBiologyStupid · 01/07/2022 19:20

Excellent, thanks PearlClutch!

Circumferences · 01/07/2022 19:35

Wow.
Halifax losing almost half a milion £....

Is this a bit like the Ocado fiasco? Not sure, I think it's much worse.
Why did everyone close their Ocado accounts? I can't quite remember.

People think "go woke go broke" isn't a thing...

McDuffy · 01/07/2022 19:43

Ocado was because of Posie Parker's Woman: AHF billboard.
That was what brought me here in 2018 and has cost ocado >£20k of my household's budget so far

OneOfThoseOldFashionedWomen · 01/07/2022 19:57

It seems small when it is just one person (me) changing my spending habits but I also left Ocado because of the billboard and that's easily 20k I haven't spent with them, probably nearer 30k with the pandemic. So that's two mum's netters spending 50k elsewhere, and many more cancelled ocado.
I stopped buying flora, again only small but when multiplied it does make a difference.

Motorina · 01/07/2022 20:16

I no longer by my underwear from M&S.

SirSamVimesCityWatch · 01/07/2022 20:23

I no longer buy anything from m&s, even food from motorway services and the like.

Have a Halifax home emergency cover renewing next week. That's going to be cancelled.

SallyLockheart · 01/07/2022 20:46

Why m&s? What have I missed?

Miajk · 01/07/2022 20:55

I'm sorry but why do people care about pronouns?

Just refer to people how they ask, it's common decency and basic respect. Just like you wouldn't hit on someone in a relationship, even though technically you might not agree with monogamy.

People are just nasty and spiteful for the sake of it these days.

Because its not about pronouns it's about political virtue signalling.

I once started a new job where a male manager had a typical female name ( he was a man BTW not trans)

Referred to him as she in first day was told no he's a man

Problem solved
No literal violence at all!!

Same as you and SirSamVimes. Not even small purchases. None in 3 years, nothing during the pandemic, no school uniform stuff, no groceries, definitely no underwear <<bleaggchhh>>.

I’m more than happy to address someone as they want to be addressed. He/she/ whatever. I’m not happy with a bank deciding it needs to open that conversation with me. Totally inappropriate virtue signalling. The most I would use is name and ‘you’.
