twitter.com/HalifaxBank/status/1541692892175110146?t=6PoJxoXZAUwWHmXRZdtsxw&s=19

Getting their arses handed to them in the comments, it's rather heartening to see that people have really had enough of this.

Although AndyM here is prepared to defend it to the hilt by actively encouraging customers to close their accounts 😬

Awkward conversation with management about the goal being bringing in customers and not telling them to bugger off for Andy in the office tomorrow perhaps!

PurgatoryOfPotholes "I just tried putting all the banks I could think of into gender-pay-gap.service.gov.uk/compare-employers
Barclays came out best on this metric."

Just googled, Barclays were a top 100 Stonewall supporter in 2021

Anyone know a of a bank who isn't anti women please?

Theeyeballsinthesky · 29/06/2022 06:48

The fact they’re giving the same C&P response to the questions just shows that it’s all surface swept. They haven’t thought about the issues, they’ve not sat there and processed what it all means, they’re just parroting what stonewall have told them. This is what is so infuriating about it all. They don’t actually gaf either - they’re just pretending too because stonewall have told them customers like it.

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 29/06/2022 06:53

You can do a 'find on this page' for any shortlisted banks, maybe?

www.stonewall.org.uk/full-list-top-100-employers-2022

I'll save you the trouble and confirm that Barclays, TSB, Santander and HSBC are all on there.

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 29/06/2022 06:57

So is NatWest. Halifax isn't on the top 100. Presumably it wants to change that.

NotTerfNorCis · 29/06/2022 06:58

Funny how 'opening the conversation about gender identity' means no such thing. It's not a conversation if you can't have differing views.

sashh · 29/06/2022 07:00

I have accounts with different places, Coventry have put my interest rate up 3 times since May, well technically the last rise is 1st July to 1.34% on a balance of 1p (my balance is more than that but you don't need a minimum).

They are working towards promoting women, but don't have 'sex' in their statement. Which is a shame because they have things like, 'caring responsibilities'

www.coventrybuildingsociety.co.uk/content/dam/cbs/member/pdfs/esg/sustainability/gender-pay-gap-report.pdf

My local Nationwide has recently closed but they had a book exchange and every year they didn't send Xmas cards but put a poster up of what that would have cost and donated the amount to the local women's refuge.

Oh and I wouldn't close all your accounts, just leave £1 in so it costs them. I fell out with Santander and every year they contact me to ask if I want to close the account. It costs them more in postage than is in the account.

Halifax is owned by Lloyds (correct me if I'm wrong). A quick Google leads me to think that pointing out the sex of their staff is a brave move based on their gender pay gap statistics.

Their median hourly pay is 40.2% lower than men's. When comparing mean (average) hourly pay, women's mean hourly pay is 33.5% lower than men's. This is the difference between the hourly pay of the median man and the hourly pay of the median woman.

Rest assured I will be asking any he/him pronoun wearers if pointing out their sex is really appropriate when the company treats women this way.

Companies who push pronouns presumably dream of a brave future where the right kind of women, unencumbered by cumbersome womb bearing and socialisation to be subordinate, start to close that pesky gap.

Today we have Laura leading the gaslighting campaign.

NoToLandfill · 29/06/2022 07:29

Starling bank. Set up and run by a woman. Move from Halifax to starling!

Margotshypotheticaldog · 29/06/2022 07:37

Excellent responses, This is one of my favourites

KatVonlabonk · 29/06/2022 07:43

They are deleting comments now.
What makes me laugh is their social media team, Lee, Laura, Mark et al, aren't adding their pronouns to their cut and paste preaching.

How will we survive with just their name? What if Mark is a they and gets misgendered?
Think of the horror people!

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 29/06/2022 08:01

Personally, I am convinced that Andy will not get in any professional bother. He is doing exactly what he is employed to do. The bank wants to demonstrate its credentials on social media to the kind of people who look, and he's doing that.

Less than 20% of the UK use twitter. Of those that use it, I think they are more likely to subscribe (however weakly) to the concept of gender than to find it problematic. People who find it problematic get banned...

The only people who are going to make banking decisions on the basis of the tweets are committed feminists and trans activists, because changing banks is a load of hassle.

However, on either 'side', for the want of a better term, there are only about 5000 twitter accounts who argue about it all on a weekly to daily basis.

Of the 5000 GC accounts, it will only be a fraction that banked with Halifax to start with, and all they will do is move banks. Halifax can afford to lose those accounts. But if you piss the TRAs off, they will do more than silently close any existing account! It's safer to irk female account-holders, especially ones with secure employment and stable finances. They're too reasonable to dress up in black bloc and stand around threatening people leaving Halifax HQ.

McDuffy · 29/06/2022 08:06

I do have an unused current account with them and a credit card I use abroad, so maybe twice a year. Is it more hassle/cost for me to leave them open than to close them?

Okay, I take it back! He might end up in significant professional bother now. If that is him and not someone pretending to be him for the sake of trolling.

RogersOrganismicProcess · 29/06/2022 08:43

DS 16 needs to open a current account for his (hopefully) new job (interview Monday). Which bank should we go to? His savings are with Halifax so we were going to go there but not now.

I assume from the flag they also pretend to not know what a woman is.

I wonder if the Halifax would be happy to know they've got a junkie working for them?

Grin Classic MN response. He may be an idiot, but his last tweet doesn’t mean he’s a junkie!

The initial tweet said Pronouns matter and had a photo of a suit lapel with a badge with Gemma She/her/hers on it.

The first tweet is what is what all their tweet bots were replying. Then AndyM went rogue and tweeted the second one, followed by details of how to close your account.
