Getting their arses handed to them in the comments, it's rather heartening to see that people have really had enough of this.

Although AndyM here is prepared to defend it to the hilt by actively encouraging customers to close their accounts 😬

Awkward conversation with management about the goal being bringing in customers and not telling them to bugger off for Andy in the office tomorrow perhaps!

I wasn’t in meetings about it but fully expecting us to be asked to add them by senior leaders by next week. I think the vast majority think they are being inclusive without actually thinking about it.

ItsASheepleThing · 30/06/2022 21:39

Should have added above if it wasn’t totally clear I also work there. I’m waiting to see if this is a hill I have to die on as it is not in any way inclusive in my opinion.

You could respond with a simple note to HR that you will not be participating in the "including pronouns" as it is obliging you to disclosing your PC.

Its not your problem if they think GI rather than belief

TheBiologyStupid · 30/06/2022 22:18

Surely the real equivalent would be that you bump into your boss backstage, but that whilst any normal person would worry that they're not as cool as they thought, because maybe Led Zeppelin are not as cool as they thought, the TRA equivalent would demand that the boss thanks them for introducing him to Led Zeppelin, and getting him the back stages passes, even though the boss heard them on the radio first and won the passes in a competition.

Let's hope that Led Zepp didn't play "Living Loving Maid (She's Just a Woman)" or the TRA would be left "Dazed and Confused" about the possible definition. Still, maybe "That's the Way" it's going to be?

Perhaps there will be a realisation that the whole gender identity nonsense is a case of "What Is and What Should Never Be"? In the meantime, sincere apologies for the terrible song-based stuff, GCRich. I know that it's "Nobody's Fault but Mine", but after all "Hey, Hey, What Can I Do?"

apintortwo · 30/06/2022 22:33

So 6 weeks extra leave for "gender affirmation" including changing pronouns on official documents - which official documents have pronouns?

What? Does everyone get 6 weeks or only the 0.5% or so of the workforce who would be affected? I doubt official documents have pronouns in Australia. NZ maybe as they seem to be very woke?

PM was interesting. Evan far more even handed than I thought he'd be, and ended with the guy from the Telegraph whose point was companies best served social needs by behaving decently and addressing things like the gender pay gap.

I just said this on another thread but it wld be better here.

I think he was a bit incredulous about it. Not because he was against putting your pronouns on a badge (I guess) but he couldn't quite believe a bank is telling customers to piss off over it. But it was a much more balanced discussion than usual.

TheBiologyStupid · 30/06/2022 23:14

Agreed, Manderley. As I also said on another thread, "Evan Davis can sometimes be a bit sappy (or maybe it's all part of his "Mr polite" shtick), but as a gay man he's got no skin in the game. (Of course, he replaced the excellent Eddie Mair, another gay man - that's the Beeb's diversity box ticked, then..) "

Gender affirmation leave: does that mean that if you're gender fluid, you can wangle six weeks leave every couple of months?

TheBiologyStupid · 30/06/2022 23:40

Why wait a couple of months?

I guess if you're that poster on AMA who wakes up every morning and decides their gender, you don't ever have to go to work. It's a full time job, being so gender invested.

LunaLights · 01/07/2022 07:59

And if they work at ANZ and live in Queensland, Australia, they may soon be able to change their birth certificate “gender” (here I thought it was sex) every 12 months, from the age of 16….

LittleMissViper · 01/07/2022 08:02

I have some accounts with Halifax, but this might change. Can anyone tell me if the pronouns on name badges for staff are compulsory, completely optional or supposedly optional (i.e. staff can choose not to participate, but there will be ramifications.)

They say completely optional but supposedly optional seems much more likely. It must depend on part on take up, but from what the PP who works at Halifax says there are a lot of captured staff there so I don’t hold much hope…

OneOfThoseOldFashionedWomen · 01/07/2022 10:06

I hope every Aussie takes them up on the offer.

I would take three weeks to change to a man and then three weeks to change back. Fuck it I'd even put up with having Mr Sarah ... on my passport if it meant I got six weeks fully paid leave.

Depressing report from the Halifax worker

Saying all that I can certainly imagine that the next generation, the 12-16 year old now, a big chunk of them must find it less subversive

Agree, only concern is what is coming next...

bare · 01/07/2022 11:33

It's being covered on the Jeremy Vine show today, between 12 and 2 on R2

KG1000 · 01/07/2022 11:36

I have just closed four accounts with Halifax.

The irony is that for years they have been addressing me by the wrong title in their correspondence! It didn't make me cry though.

ChristinaXYZ · 01/07/2022 12:17

Apologies if someone else had pointed this out already but HSBC have RT'd the Halifax backing them

twitter.com/HSBC_UK/status/1542154676740804609

There are other reasons to avoid HSBC but this adds to the list.

ScribblingPixie · 01/07/2022 12:45

I do love the Daily Mail intro to their lead online story "Just closed my Halifax account. They can shove it up their/his/her arse." That's just how I feel.

achillestoes · 01/07/2022 13:13

Love how BANKS are the left-wing progressive cause now. How thick can people be?

spidersenses · 01/07/2022 13:33

There's absolutely no way Andy M has randomly posted off his own back. Tweets will have been approved at the higher level. This is a strategic response. If the bank was worried, crisis comms would have be implemented by now. The higher ups are aware of what is happening on Twitter right now. They are doubling down. This isn't a rouge employee who got it a bit wrong and is about to be pulled up on it.

Its never a random post.

But there is no way the invester sales team are selling the "close your account" to the professional investors.

totalnamechanger · 01/07/2022 13:46

Which bank isn’t going to take a similar approach? I’m really not sure where to take my Hsbc and Halifax (decades long) custom. I was thinking of Nationwide but can see that they are v pleased with themselves for their introduction of gender neutral toilets. I loathe this bullying of customers who simply have different views. Why should my bank tell me how to think? Have they even thought this through themselves?

Provenceinthesummer · 01/07/2022 13:49

I can’t believe Halifax is still in business! I thought they had folded long ago - but given they have a trickle of customers left it is rather dumb alienating 99% of the population!

surely a pronoun is entirely unnecessary and just virtual signalling. If Jim is now Gemma on their name badge I am assuming customers, if they felt the need to care, would just use the name stated 🤷🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️

Halifax has a largely pensioner following, probably the least woke people you can possibly hope to find. A Dinosaur company jumping on the bandwagon 😂
