Getting their arses handed to them in the comments, it's rather heartening to see that people have really had enough of this.

Although AndyM here is prepared to defend it to the hilt by actively encouraging customers to close their accounts 😬

Awkward conversation with management about the goal being bringing in customers and not telling them to bugger off for Andy in the office tomorrow perhaps!

DON’T GIVE THEM IDEAS!

I think the number of people who have actually closed accounts will be very close to zero. It’s a huge faff to do, very easy to say.

Whilst I agree that I doubt many actually have closed the accounts, certainly changing current accounts isn't a faff, you just tell the new bank and they sort everything.

SidewaysOtter · 30/06/2022 14:43

It could be the latest extension to the "she/they" farrago: "My pronouns are "She/They/His" 🙄

NoToLandfill · 30/06/2022 14:45

It's actually really easy to move bank account. You open one with the new bank. They move all your direct debits etc over. It actually couldn't be easier. I moved to Starling bank and it was a doddle

Howard was last seen on first dates. True story.

I remember that!

Starling app lets you change the app icon. They have Christmas ones too. You don't have to change it.

I think all the HR departments are 'captured' and all have diversity managers. And celebrating pride by changing logo colours is a really easy way to say you are diverse.

Whether they actually pay women fairly I don't know. But Starling was set up by a woman so I should hope so.

Mochudubh · 30/06/2022 14:59

I used to work for Nationwide and still bank with them. I'd say they're one of the better retail banking institutions.

RogersOrganismicProcess · 30/06/2022 16:34

Five accounts moved from Halifax to Nationwide today. Very easy to do, the lady in nationwide was fab! They are doing all of my direct debits for me, all I have to do for my account is inform my employer and the tax man.
The lady in Halifax did a massive eye roll when I told her I was closing the accounts. I think they were ready, or I wasn’t the first.

SheHerMorons · 30/06/2022 17:00

NC for this in case outing/linked to previous posts.

I work here and it has been rife today with talks about how terrible the reactions on Twitter have been and "good on Andy for telling them to close their accounts."

Not one colleague challenging or questioning. Utterly shit and miserable.

Tallisker · 30/06/2022 17:03

Have many customers closed their accounts, SheHer?

SheHerMorons · 30/06/2022 17:03

Oh and Nationwide are waaaay better (not only in relation to this topic). They're a building society so more ethical than and bank and they're truly a pleasure to bank with!

Hied · 30/06/2022 17:04

Can someone explain the Twitter ratio.

I thought if there was more comments than likes then they'd been "ratioed".

However it looks like they have 10,000 likes and 9,700 comments. Does that not mean that people are agreeing with the tweet as opposed to against it?

@RogersOrganismicProcess did you get the impression it was an eye roll directed at you for being an unreasonable transphobe / hysterical woman overreacting, or an eye roll directed at the Halifax's position?

RainingYetAgain · 30/06/2022 17:04

It was the lead headline on the intro to the PM programme R 4 on now

I don't work in a branch so no idea, but my colleagues are thrilled about the new badges and have welcomed the idea of "those" customers closing their accounts.

My guess is the flying monkeys have been deployed since the whole thing kicked off last night, to drive up the likes.

Apart from anything else, pronouns were initiated by a small group of people as a subversive gesture. They were fashionable. It’s all very well to get all your mates at school doing it, your student union, your professors and whoever else in your bubble, but surely there’s no damp squib in the middle of a sub-culture like your bank manager doing it. It must be like being one of Led Zeppelin’s early fans and then bumping into your boss backstage at a concert.

Isn't the flaw in this the narcissism of the whole movement? Surely the real equivalent would be that you bump into your boss backstage, but that whilst any normal person would worry that they're not as cool as they thought, because maybe Led Zeppelin are not as cool as they thought, the TRA equivalent would demand that the boss thanks them for introducing him to Led Zeppelin, and getting him the back stages passes, even though the boss heard them on the radio first and won the passes in a competition.

These people want acclaim and power - and they have that in their own heads by leading a righteous charge. Uncool people using pronouns is narcissistic validation.

Saying all that I can certainly imagine that the next generation, the 12-16 year old now, a big chunk of them must find it less subversive and cool and are therefore less tempted to be sucked in than their older siblings were.

BudgetTarzan · 30/06/2022 17:24

On radio 4 now. I wonder how Evan will do?

Toomuchtea · 30/06/2022 17:30

PM was interesting. Evan far more even handed than I thought he'd be, and ended with the guy from the Telegraph whose point was companies best served social needs by behaving decently and addressing things like the gender pay gap.

Definitely at me! She directed me to another colleague to look something up about my accounts, then proceeded to talk to a third colleague and look over at me and my son, shaking her head in a very cross manner. Just made me feel more sure of what I was doing. The lady who was looking something up on the system was lovely, very professional and friendly.

TheBiologyStupid · 30/06/2022 17:58

Halifax need to keep up - pronouns are SO over... www.mumsnet.com/talk/womens_rights/4574827-pronouns-are-like-so-over?page=1

Banks and large capitalist corporations will be the first to be confiscated and destroyed if this political drivel takes hold. However, they are seem to be willingly backing this nonsense.

You couln't make it up

From the Times article:
ANZ, the bank in Australia and New Zealand, recently began offering six weeks of paid “gender affirmation leave”, giving staff time to change their gender presentation, have surgery or change their name or pronouns on official documents.

I believe Australians only get 4 weeks annual leave as standard. So 6 weeks extra leave for "gender affirmation" including changing pronouns on official documents - which official documents have pronouns? Is this a new thing and I had no idea because I've been living under a rock?
