Getting their arses handed to them in the comments, it's rather heartening to see that people have really had enough of this.

Although AndyM here is prepared to defend it to the hilt by actively encouraging customers to close their accounts 😬

Awkward conversation with management about the goal being bringing in customers and not telling them to bugger off for Andy in the office tomorrow perhaps!

Just seen on Yahoo news that this is in the Telegraph now.

TheBiologyStupid · 29/06/2022 16:58

Just saw the new Jesus ‘n’ Mo cartoon, "hymn", which seems appropriate: whyevolutionistrue.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/hymn.png

I'm with Halifax- time to take Andy's advice I think....

RogersOrganismicProcess · 29/06/2022 19:32

What happened to Howard?

Rightsraptor · 29/06/2022 19:40

Howard would never have behaved like Andy.

Be more Howard.

Frenchfancy · 29/06/2022 19:51

Halifax and Lloyds have really messed up their PR here. Not only have they upset a huge amount of people by insisting on pronouns but it has highlighted their huge sex (can't call it gender) pay gap. That it one almighty own goal.

Dailymenu · 29/06/2022 19:59

Andy M is a man with a penis and scrotum. He/him/his is a c**t though.

Charley50 · 29/06/2022 20:00

According to the list of ex-Stonewall members, Nationwide have left their scheming ways.

I think they're also paying £150 to switch accounts to them.

NoToLandfill · 29/06/2022 20:03

The comments on the times article are heartening

RJnomore1 · 29/06/2022 20:04

Howard was last seen on first dates. True story.

LovinglifeAF · 29/06/2022 20:10

That is heartening to see, it was the FB post I saw first which was more of the “be kind” persuasion and abusing people who disagreed with the post. Due to the (relative) anonymity of Twitter maybe?

achillestoes · 29/06/2022 20:12

Totally up to them if they want to lose hundreds of accounts and mortgages. We can’t stop them being idiots.

rogdmum · 29/06/2022 20:13

Complete aside, but why are they showing three pronouns? Surely she/her is enough for people to assume the “hers”? Are we now supposed to announce all three when asked? Ever creeping scope… 😉

GodisaBC · 29/06/2022 20:14

I’ve got a credit card, savings account and current account with Halifax. Monzo will switch it all for me so I may go with them although the £150 from Nationwide is tempting.

RogersOrganismicProcess · 29/06/2022 20:15

Rightsraptor · 29/06/2022 19:40

I think we could all be a little more Howard. He’d make a lovely neighbour. Imagine going out to work each morning, giving each other a neighbourly wave “y’all right Howard, how was your date?”
Unlike Andy…
”how’s life Andy?”
“fuck off!”

Rightsraptor · 29/06/2022 20:18

Oh yes! I saw Howard on First Dates too. He got a bit miffed that his date didn't recognise him, iirc.

Personally I don't care at all if Halifax staff wear pronoun badges, although it's bonkers. I'd hardly ever have to use them as I'd normally deal with one person face-to-face and so would say 'you'. However, I do object to the rubbish about opening up the conversation about gender ID. Seriously? Between staff and customers? And being told they don't want my money if I don't align with their 'values'. No I bloody well don't align with their values that allow female staff to be paid so much less than their male colleagues.

Virtue signalling idiots.

MissLucyEyelesbarrow · 29/06/2022 20:28

TBH, I think gender pay gap stats are a crock of shit. They just give you an average, when what you really need to know is whether women have the same opportunities for promotion as men, and whether they are paid the same as men for comparable roles.

Charley50 · 29/06/2022 20:30

www.nationwide.co.uk/current-accounts/switch/ sorry, it's £100 - £125.

And yes, according to this list; they're ex-Stonewall sex-matters.org/stonewall-champions-list/

nepeta · 29/06/2022 20:30

They are a very rough measure, and should be supplemented with the information you mentioned. But at least if a firm has no difference between the average pay of its male and female employees it's probably a sign that it's not discriminatory. So that crude comparison might point out the firms which deserve closer scrutiny about the reasons for their pay gaps. They could be innocent ones or not.

nepeta · 29/06/2022 20:32

Thank you, posters on this thread, for connecting in my mind 'preferred pronouns' and female-male earnings gaps. Now I think of a lapel sticker with 'he/him' on it as advertising "I'm paid x % more than if this sticker said she/her".

TeresaBlue · 29/06/2022 20:36

Personally, I am convinced that Andy will not get in any professional bother. He is doing exactly what he is employed to do. The bank wants to demonstrate its credentials on social media to the kind of people who look, and he's doing that

I've worked in banking for 20 years and I'm 100% certain that Andy M will be being dragged at speed into someone's office tomorrow.

Several of the big banks are fairly quietly subscribing to the pronoun crap. But all of the big banks are fucking fanatical about reputational damage and risk, especially on SM.

It's the second tweet that he'll be regretting. And God forbid if that actually is Andy M's personal account he started replying from, arguing with customers - that will not go down well at all, plus the other screenshot stuff from his profile. He'll be out the door.

achillestoes · 29/06/2022 20:40

So now they’re on roughly 8,000 comments and likes. How many of the ‘likes’ are people who are going to move their accounts to Halifax from one of the other banks also using pronoun badges? How many of the comments are people who are removing their accounts to a different bank?

The ratio-idea fails in this sense, because there is no 'dislike' button, just the option to comment on something. So those who disagree with an argument must take the extra trouble to write something down and not just click a button.
