Apologies if covered elsewhere, I didn't see it.

www.vice.com/en/article/g5vx8j/guardian-trans-journalists

As far as I can tell mostly triggered by a single article written about the 'cotton ceiling' in the light of its prominence in the Bailey v Stonewall etc tribunal - www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2022/may/29/if-lesbian-prefers-same-sex-dates-thats-not-bigotry-desire-personal-thing.

All seems a bit silly to me, regardless of which 'side' you're on. I don't know when things became so ludicrously tribal, I'm [sadly] old enough to remember the days when the Daily Mail gave a column to Roy Hattersley in the interests of balance. A very different time...

yeah, regarding the ending quote,

“If you call yourself a trans ally, this is the moment for you to do something. Yes, it might come at a financial cost to not have a working relationship with The Guardian, as it does for me and Freddy, but sometimes you have to do what's right."

Gosh, who could that be directed at ...

Hagiography · 10/06/2022 14:51

'The guardian has a huge, systemic problem with transphobia' - someone on Twitter.

Cripes. I cannot envisage what these people imagine a paper looks like that would be acceptable to them. The Guardian is the most trans-sympathetic paper that there is out there.

If that's fallen, then fucking hell, it's over.

SirSamVimesCityWatch · 10/06/2022 14:51

Hagiography · 10/06/2022 14:46

Gosh, who could that be directed at ...

Ah ha ha ha ha Little OJ - come on, this is the moment for you to do something!!

SirSamVimesCityWatch · 10/06/2022 14:53

'The guardian has a huge, systemic problem with transphobia' - someone on Twitter.

Proves that you can never capitulate far enough, doesn't it.

Hagiography · 10/06/2022 14:55

I'm sure OJ is carefully considering how he can possibly atone for his previous sins this week of ... not agreeing that trans people are being genocided.

veggiesupreme · 10/06/2022 14:59

I wonder if they realise they probably won't work for any newspaper ever again. Telegraph, Times, Guardian, Mail and even the Economist covering the erasure of women in the NHS...

Perhaps they can get a job in a university, school or college where the anti women movement is still very much alive and well and thriving.

Hagiography · 10/06/2022 15:04

That's what I mean, what outlets are there that use only the approved canon?

It's Pink News or Vox, really, intit?

Funny, he hasn’t announced his resignation on twitter yet, or even retweeted this piece.
I guess it’s only transmen (eg women) so OJ doesn’t feel the need to support them.

NecessaryScene · 10/06/2022 15:14

I mean, if OJ keeps working for the most transphobic newspaper in the UK, after all the trans journalists have left, he's actively supporting the upcoming genocide and the ongoing eugenics.

There's a time you have to do the right thing. Don't be the Guardian's token "trans ally", letting them cover up their trans hatred.

RoyalCorgi · 10/06/2022 15:16

Of all the narcissistic, self-important, hubristic, entitled and utterly self-defeating things that trans activists have done, this is probably the funniest.

Freddy and Vic: I hate to break it to you but the Guardian don't care if you don't write for them any more. They won't even notice. They employ hundreds of freelance writers, most of whom are much more talented than you are.

And if the Guardian is too transphobic, who are you going to write for? The Telegraph? The Mail? Have fun working that one out.

LeftFootForward · 10/06/2022 15:20

So Vic Parsons identifies as a man? I don't get it. She looks just like a woman and in the past I'd just assumed Vic was short for Victoria.

At least Freddy has made a bit of effort and grown a beard !!

BootsAndRoots · 10/06/2022 15:20

As reported in Vice, the same platform that organised an event in Saudi Arabia and got participants to sign NDAs not to mention Vice's role in it.

This was revealed in the Guardian: www.theguardian.com/media/2022/feb/01/vice-media-secretly-organised-20m-saudi-government-festival

Who strangely enough are being targeted by Vice today over these part-time columnists.

NecessaryScene · 10/06/2022 15:22

Someone upthread said that Vic calls herself non-binary, so presumably the only procedure required was surgically removing the "-toria".

This is "trans" via "umbrella", not actually being a "transman" as was assumed.

Here's one from 2015:

WindyMillersProbationOfficer · 22/10/2015

'I think Owen Jones - like Laurie Penny - is very aware that one badly-phrased tweet will put him in line for 1/4 of the same abuse that vocal radical feminists on Twitter get, so he's trying to avoid it by castigating radical feminists as nasty meanies harassing him, and him as the poor wronged bullying victim.'

www.mumsnet.com/talk/womens_rights/2491875-so-owen-jones-is-as-full-of-shit-as-ever-he-was?page=2

There may well be more, but the search function is shit not very good.

Is Saudi another of these trans-rights utopias?

in fairness I've heard that the Saudi government is way ahead of ours when it comes to offering free surgery, with very short waiting lists, to TW, though for balance it might be argued that the procedures that they offer tend to be rather more, I suppose, interventionist than most patients would hope for.

@NecessaryScene Ah, I see, thank you.

What an absolute load of nonsense it all sounds😆

Hagiography · 10/06/2022 15:36

I think it may be time for another vigil.

I await Owen Jones' inevitable resignation.

yes, that sort of thing.

though this is probably hugely preferable to what's available on the private sector over there, eg see www.independent.co.uk/news/world/middle-east/transgender-pakistani-saudi-arabia-tortured-death-amna-meeno-11-custody-lgbt-rights-human-a7607446.html

Totally agree with this. Not surprised to see one of them was Freddy 'Oh, I need breasts for breastfeeding? Why did no one tell me?!' McConnell.
Also enjoyed the bit in the Vice piece that goes 'the article has been widely criticised as anti-trans, with the author of the article repeatedly calling trans women “biologically male” and labelling trans campaigners working for trans equality as pushing “gender ideology”.'
There is nothing that is not factual there. Confused Grin

I missed this! What did LOJ say please?

Also, does Ben Hunte get paid by the word, I wonder? Might account for his florid and repetittive style
