What is a Woman? Advert. The tide is truly turning...

"Florida-based watch manufacturer Egard Watches has created an ad spot in defense of biological women’s rights.

What are the details?
The video opens with footage of accomplished women, including female athletes and others, and shows women through the decades and even centuries fighting for equal rights.

"What is a woman?" the female narrator says. "Is women's history of achievements quickly being erased? Is a woman a feminine force of nature? Is a woman a sister, a daughter, a mother? Is a woman the wonder of childbirth?"

"Is a woman a caregiver?" the narrator continues. "Is a woman a warrior who fought for her place?"

The video continues, "Is that now being taken away, soon to be forgotten? Is that not worth protecting? And how long do we sit idly by and not stand for the sacred value of womanhood as it loses all meaning?"

"Because we believe that womanhood is a birthright," the narrator concludes.

What else?
In a statement provided to Blaze Media, Egard CEO Ilan Srulovicz said, “The overwhelming majority of Americans are appalled by Big Tech, Big Business, and Big Government’s coordinated campaign to erase the hard-fought gains earned by untold millions of amazing women in our society."

"Yet, almost nobody is speaking for them," Srulovicz continued. "We crafted an ad campaign that celebrates our grandmothers, mothers, sisters, aunts, and daughters, and everything they represent to paint a stark contrast to the lies we are all being told."

Srulovicz added, "The push for transgender rights is no longer about equality, it’s now a cleverly-crafted lie that comes at the expense of women. We ask all Americans to join us to speak truth.”

This is a VERY powerful advert

Necklace on order. That ad is brilliant. I really hope the tide is turning for all women and our beautiful daughters.

Great as it is that companies are feeling emboldened to talk about women in this way, I'm a bit put off by the fact that they sell a watch apparently aimed at police, called 'The Patriot'.

drum123 · 13/04/2022 11:27

They may well be a conservative, traditional company, but they have produced a piece of marketing that would have been unthinkable just a few months ago. Yes, they are possibly just capturing the moment when the tide turns, and their bottom line is making a profit, but given that so many of us no longer shop with companies who have sold our rights out over the demands of men, why shouldn't we thank them, and buy from them?

SquirrelFan · 13/04/2022 11:28

Um, these guys seem like they might be pretty conservative - what women's rights charities does the money go to? I love the necklace, btw, and the sentiment, but I don't want to fund right-wingers.

SamphirethePogoingStickerist · 13/04/2022 11:31
A poke around online suggests they are a pretty conservative/trad masculinity company, forgive me for being cynical www.reddit.com/r/advertising/comments/akfvfw/what_is_a_man_a_response_to_gillette_egard_watches/
That's the point.

Even the most manly, traditional of men can see the problem!

This isn't a left or right wing issue. It's not one sided, you don't need any life bias, it is global. Men are men, women are women, biologyi is immutable.

Do what you like in the mean time!

Make a change from right wingers supporting us? Grin

Of course they're conservative - we're not stupid. If a liberal American Corp put out something like this can you imagine the furore- be lunchgate x million.

However, we can all agree on this point they are correct. We don't all have to agree on everything.

A lot of advertising cynically uses liberal feminism and trans rights activist rhetoric which I also believe is harmful to women and girls. I'm not wedded to the company but I think the ad being made is reflective of the changing political landscape. If they are anti women's rights in other ways I don't want to directly fund that, but I still applaud the advertisement in and of itself. Conservatives are as entitled to a view on this as anyone.

Here we go again, last week fawning over bawjaws boris and now buying this jewellery. Confused

Yes the ad is probably cynical marketing but at this point I'll take it over aggressive gaslighting.

Me too, and the Left really need to catch onto themselves for handing the right an open goal, frankly. Women matter. You can't change sex.

twingirlboys · 13/04/2022 11:48

Hello my next purchase. If you are reading Egard, THANK YOU

I'm not sure the enemy of your enemy is always your friend

They aren't, I just prefer not to be gaslighted. I don't expect women's right to political representation as a sex class and legal rights to privacy and dignity to be acknowledged by the right, and certainly not more by the right than the left. But here we are.

Robin843 · 13/04/2022 11:50

what are they actually doing for women other than using them for PR? Are they donating anything? 10% of all profits going to women's rights charities.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 13/04/2022 11:51

As pp have said, it would be good to know which charities.

godmum56 · 13/04/2022 11:57

@HermioneWeasley

Amazing to see a corporation unequivocally standing up for women
not really, they will stand up for anything that makes them money
beastlyslumber · 13/04/2022 12:01

I just would prefer companies to stay out of politics all together. I don't need a watch to be a statement about my political views any more than I need a washing powder to be lgbt inclusive or a supermarket to promote BLM. The merging of corporate interests with political ones is not a good idea for society generally.

NewYearSoon · 13/04/2022 12:01

The Twitter post seems to be starting to say that the video was made three years ago

I'm a bitter and twisted cynic and had done th research into Egard. but I figure if Egard makes money out of this film, they will hardly keep it to themselves, will they? Which means other companies will start to follow the money too. In the end it mostly comes down to money I'm afraid. Normally I'm not ok with that, but these aren''t exactly normal times.

That's a different one about manhood as pp mentioned. This one references articles and events from recently.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 13/04/2022 12:05

Companies aren't going to stay out of politics though. Not at this point in time.
