"I don't think it helps for politicians to define this". I mean, wft does she think their job is?

They are hopeless

Someone needs to remind them the law needs definitions to keep society functioning well

If they keep getting coy about this they are as useless as a chocolate teapot and worse

Swayingpalmtrees · 29/03/2022 09:48

I am not allowed to be defined as a biological woman, according to Labour, but everyone else is allowed to call themselves anything they like with their pronouns respected and this will be enshrined in law should they ever win....Confused

WalrusSubmarine · 29/03/2022 09:49

@JanetPluchinsky

She kept wanging on about young people’s identity. That’s not really what this is about though. It’s the middle aged transitioners who want to keep their cocks who are the ones obfuscating the conversation. Frankly, Ange; it DOES hinge on genitalia when we’re talking about intact adult males in female spaces.
It’s all so infantilising. It’s like these young people will stay young and helpless forever and somehow not become sexually active, tubby, hairy, middle aged adults with mortgages and boring jobs.
rosebushtoosh · 29/03/2022 09:50

They're all so terrified of being cancelled by the woke brigade.
I saw on twotter that an restaurant in England has changed the name of their Ploughman's Sandwich to Ploughperson's Sandwich so as to be more inclusive.....

tabbycatstripy · 29/03/2022 09:51

'I saw on twotter that an restaurant in England has changed the name of their Ploughman's Sandwich to Ploughperson's Sandwich so as to be more inclusive.....'

They must have run out of cheese because nobody's ordering that.

Swayingpalmtrees · 29/03/2022 09:52

They're all so terrified of being cancelled by the woke brigade

but it is okay if they are cancelled by 51% of the population as long as they can't define who we are, who will miss us hey?

hamstersarse · 29/03/2022 09:58

It’s pretty funny watching identity politics unravel in real time.

Which group are most deserving - women or trans women?

What a terrible tangle they’ve got themselves in 🤣

ResisterRex · 29/03/2022 09:59

I can't see the GMB interview but someone got the Sky one. Here in 2 parts:

twitter.com/selfcommit2othe/status/1508719206841389059

Seems like the same approach as has been discussed here. She's not answering the question asked. She turns it all into "a young person struggling with their identity", which, given the Cass Review and the endless stream of gender woo pumped at kids on SM via "charities" that have strayed very far from their registered charitable purpose/SM companies doing whatever the fuck they like, seems like an even worse take than Starmer saying "errr think I read some Sport England guidance".

Swayingpalmtrees · 29/03/2022 10:03

Labour are going to need to do much better than this - every presenter is going to pick away at this, if they are worth the paper they are written on to wring out an actual answer. This will go on and on, and every time it happens it will be another nail in the coffin of their election prospects as even the most passionate of LP voter becomes alarmed at their lack of coherence.
And with the backdrop of war and crisis everywhere. Seriously wtf are they doing.

Unswallow the handbook, renege on the back room agreements, hand back the donations and reclaim the party!!

Artichokeleaves · 29/03/2022 10:04

The whole 'young person' thing is getting like frantic cries of 'kittens! kittens!'

No, sorry Angela. Cute marketing imagery still isn't making the problems go away. We've had that t shirt for years, it's full of holes now. And we need to talk about you using a very intentionally vague version of the issues of young people in this way to further your agenda, when you've got a minute.

Fluffycloudland77 · 29/03/2022 10:05

Maybe labour is already led by a woman. Keir Starmer could be a woman by their logic.

Swayingpalmtrees · 29/03/2022 10:05

Angela you do not speak for my 'young people', they are young WOMEN!

viques · 29/03/2022 10:05

Degrading! I’ll tell you what is degrading Angela, it is being raped on a hospital ward by another patient and then having the rape denied by the hospital for over a year because according to them there was no man on the ward. That is degrading. As is having police officers take photographs of your dead body, as is being told you can’t choose to be counselled by a woman, as is seeing awards designed to celebrate womens enterprise and hard work being accepted by men . As are all the other slights and indignities that women are expected to suck up so we don’t hurt mens pockets and mens feelings.

Now they are degrading.

And while we are handing out definitions, here’s one for you : sticking up for the 50% of the electorate who voted you into your current position, championing their rights to clear and unambiguous language about their sex, to safe spaces in schools, hospitals, prisons, refuges and hostels, to equality on the sports field, to equal pay, to equal pension rights, to a police force that tackles domestic and other violence against women, to adequate maternity services, that is called doing your fucking job.

hear fucking hear.
rosebushtoosh · 29/03/2022 10:10

Perhaps Keir should start identifying as a woman, he might as well at this point.

Beowulfa · 29/03/2022 10:12

This reminds me of a key moment in the election where May fluffed gaining a majority. She was asked by a local radio about the vulnerability to flooding of the main train line into Devon and Cornwall. She could have just honestly answered that she'd never lived in the South West and wasn't up to date on the latest state of rail infrastructure, but that it sounded serious and she'd look into it. Instead she did her typical mumbled robotic non-answer. How can politicians not realise that just spouting a pre-prepared line just pisses people off!

I don't expect politicians to be experts in every single issue facing Britain, but I do expect them to recognise what sounds important and do some further research.

tabbycatstripy · 29/03/2022 10:14

Nobody is 'debating what genitalia someone's got'. 'Woman' or 'man' - these are abstract categories that map to concrete realities. Rayner is completely disingenuous when she pretends that this is about attacking some hypothetical young person.

Young people are going to become older people. Their bodies are going to age and become ill, and sometimes that is going to happen along sexed lines - prostate cancer, cervical cancer, miscarriage, heart attack, risk of early death, reactions to certain drugs etc.

She is obviously completely irrational if she thinks talking about such things is in some way obscene.

Swayingpalmtrees · 29/03/2022 10:14

Can someone please send this to Starmer - or on every billboard in England. How have we gone from a party that stood up for women and apparently cared about our rights/future/equality to this utter shit show.

tabbycatstripy · 29/03/2022 10:15

And 'taking it off social media' and 'taking it away from commentators' meaning silencing the public.

No, Angela. You are a representative, not a boss.

Swayingpalmtrees · 29/03/2022 10:15

And Nicola Sturgeon is even worse!!

It is a fucking joke. An abysmal state of affairs.

tabbycatstripy · 29/03/2022 10:17

'People who are not qualified to discuss some of these issues.'

This is a car crash. She means women. Women are not qualified to discuss being women.

She can go away now.

tabbycatstripy · 29/03/2022 10:19

'If a man was born with the reproductive... you know... if they were born female...'

Womb. Ovaries. Fallopian tubes. Vagina.

How does she think she can run the country?

CarbonelCat · 29/03/2022 10:20

All parents need to understand the really important point, that if no one can define what a woman is, if a woman can have a penis, if a woman is a thing you just say you are, then when you send your 11 yr old female child on a camping trip with school, and you want to know that should she need assistance around periods for eg, there is a woman teacher on hand, you need to know that that woman you sent her with may be a man, and politicians are ok with that. You are not allowed to question that, define or articulate your issue with that, and neither is your daughter.

Wtaf.

Unbelievable

Starmer got a pretty good reaction last time he came on here (think I missed last one so ages ago)

I doubt any of them would face up to it now. They’ve painted themselves into a cowardly corner. I include my dd in all this as she needs definitions and clarity as I do.
