Emma Watson's dig at JKR

IamSarah · 15/03/2022 07:39

It appears she said at the BAFTAs 'I am here for all of the witches... bar one'

Disappointing but not unexpected.

I thought she said “I’m here for all the witches, by the way.”

MurmuratingStarling · 15/03/2022 08:37

I think JK is pretty cool and I HATE all the hate against her, but can someone actually post a link to Emma Watson actually saying 'to all of the witches BAR ONE..' With the 'Bar One' bit included. Coz I see no evidence that she actually said it.

@IamSarah Evidence she actually said it please?

Unsure33 · 15/03/2022 08:37

Would love to see a debate between the two of them . Put your money where your mouth is .

willithappen · 15/03/2022 08:37

She said 'by the way'

Also her comment was in response to Rebel Wilson's introduction to her and calling her a witch (see screenshot above that everyone has seemed to ignore).

CantStandMeCow · 15/03/2022 08:37

Could she mean Rebel, after that comment?

Not defending every other move she’s made though.

ClaireEclair · 15/03/2022 08:37

@IvyTwines

'Bar one' doesn't sound like the sort of phrase a youngster would come out with, but she could simply come out and clarify: if she doesn't it suggests she's fine with the TRA social media take on it.
She’s 31. Not really a youngster anymore. But I do think “bar one” is a pretty common phrase anyway.
Oblomov22 · 15/03/2022 08:38

I had no idea she'd said 'bar one'. TgAt was not reported yesterday. But watching the clip, yes she does mouth it.

What a unpleasant woman she is.

CantStandMeCow · 15/03/2022 08:38

And she definitely says, By the way.

EdenFlower · 15/03/2022 08:38

I think she mouths 'by the way', not 'bar one'!

GreenFingersWouldBeHandy · 15/03/2022 08:39

This is just made-up media rubbish. She was just making a quip back at the host calling her a witch. Nothing to do with JK at all.

UrsulaPandress · 15/03/2022 08:39

Little Women

Oh the irony.

LaChanticleer · 15/03/2022 08:39

I just think she's a rather bad actress, who wouldn't halve a career without Ms Rowling

Supersee · 15/03/2022 08:39

@fruitbat987

Wow! Dissing the woman who made her. Shock And despite the fact that JK Rowling said not one transphobic thing in her essay. Not one thing. Most people I know who've slagged JK off (and pretty much everyone I know agrees with JK) when pressed, haven't even had a glance at her essay or know any of the specifics of what she actually said. Confused

I have asked, in real life and on here, many, many, MANY times to tell me exactly what JK Rowling has said that is transphobic when people put her down for being 'transphobic'.

I'm still waiting on an answer.

ClaireEclair · 15/03/2022 08:40

I’ve watched the clip a few times and can’t make out if it’s “bar one” or “by the way”.

Kanaloa · 15/03/2022 08:41

Even ‘by the way’ isn’t great. It’s still that little dig as if she’s indisputably right and anyone who disagrees is dumb.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 15/03/2022 08:41

Emma Watson thinks that she's cleverer than she truly is.

newsibling123 · 15/03/2022 08:41

@Chersfrozenface

"Hate to break this one to you but, as an Ivy League alumnus, I’m going to take a punt she’s a damn lot more intelligent than most of the posters here. "

Alumna. If you use Latin, get it right.

Alumnus is a masculine noun whose plural is alumni, and alumna is a feminine noun whose plural is alumnae. Coeducational institutions usually use alumni for graduates of both sexes. (Like Brown where she attended ) Therefore Alumnus is most appropriate.
willithappen · 15/03/2022 08:43

@Kanaloa

Even ‘by the way’ isn’t great. It’s still that little dig as if she’s indisputably right and anyone who disagrees is dumb.
Oh come on! Again, READ how she was introduced. It was in response to that. Not a made up phrase to try have a dig.
NoSquirrels · 15/03/2022 08:43

If she did say ‘by the way’ then I’m sore sure she’ll be delighted to clarify she bears JKR no ill will and no snarky comment was aimed at her.

I’ll wait.

Not holding my breath.

Kanaloa · 15/03/2022 08:44

I meant the idea that you have to support ‘all witches’ or whatever other nonsense. She’s taken a very hard line with all this stuff and I don’t think it’s reflected well on her. And she’s not really young enough to write it off as immaturity.

backintothefire · 15/03/2022 08:44

Well, if I was her, and I really hadn't been 'throwing shade' at JKR, I probably would have used my significant public platform to clarify that, given it's been widely reported on SM that EW was doing exactly that.

I mean, if I was any kind of reasonable, thinking human being I'd be utterly mortified that my comments had been misinterpreted as slagging off the woman who made me.

It's a complete mystery as to why she's not done so...

U2HasTheEdge · 15/03/2022 08:45

Looks like it was aimed at Rebel in a jokey way?

redbigbananafeet · 15/03/2022 08:45

@EdenFlower

I think she mouths 'by the way', not 'bar one'!
100% agree. It's in reply to her intro. You need to click to open the screen grab. It's 'by the way'.
Floomobal · 15/03/2022 08:45

@Janesmom

I’m curious why many posters on here often find views they don’t agree with “disappointing” or similar. Genuinely bizarre that any grown up would object to other person politely articulating a genuine view.
She’s made her money and career from JK Rowlings thoughts and ideas, and imagination. It’s completely unnecessary just because they have different ideas (although I find it bizarre that anyone could disagree with JKR on transgender issues, that’s beside the point) to be constantly distancing herself/insulting/publicly criticising the person she owes her career to.
LittleDiaries · 15/03/2022 08:45

The saying "biting the hand that feeds you" comes to mind. Never a good move. She seems to have forgotten that she is where she is - a privileged wealthy, educated woman, who can do whatever she wants with her life and career now, thanks to J K Rowling. Without JKR she would still be a jobbing actor, like the majority of the profession.
