YogabirthUK cancel event after Freddy McConnell flounce

Saw this on twitter this morning but can't see a thread here.

Milli Hill was supposed to be appearing at an event run by YogabirthUK entitled 'Gender and Birth: A space to listen.' Milli was lined up to appear alongside Freddy McConnell and another speaker, but Freddy pulled out after the event was announced, on the grounds that Freddy could not appear 'alongside/after/in the same remote vicinity' as a birth specialist who recognises biological sex.

Full tantrum available here. twitter.com/millihill/status/1498060037536714752

The YogabirthUK Instagram link is worth looking at too. Lots of support for Milli Hill and regret about the cancellation of an event that was literally supposed to be providing 'space to listen', but the TRA input is interesting and very telling. (Spoiler alert: TRA claims MH is a disgusting transphobe for being exclusionary to transwomen when - crucially - Freddy is a transman. And excluded Freddyself.)

I am having one of those days when my patience with all this feels very thin. Very thin indeed.

@NitroNine

Do you think there’s ANY way FM genuinely didn’t understand that “having a baby” is clearly not, in any way, what the S2 route is for?

Or is “seeking clarity” just code for “having a massive tantrum & making unreasonable demands of the NHS with the expectation they will do as I want as soon as I Say The Magic Word”. The NEW magic word, obviously: why would you ask & say “please” when you can instead make demands & use accusations of transphobia to get what you want, after all?

I don’t think “I don’t agree with the wording on the birth certificate given to a baby born in the UK” would be an adequate reason for the NHS to fund the medical costs of giving birth in another country. I’m pretty sure the NHS has far more pressing issues to deal with.

I've just realised that FM's got siblings.

Grandma doesn't mention them on her bio. Or anywhere.

Ouch.

This post has been hidden until the MNHQ team can have a look at it.

Um, why has my previous post been “hidden until MNHQ can have a look at it” BEFORE IT’S EVEN BEEN POSTED FOR ANYONE ELSE TO SEE???

Rococococo · 03/03/2022 11:05

Ah ok, am guessing it’s because there was a link in it.

Yes, I was quite surprised to see that Freddy also has another fundraiser on the go. This one’s to make a film about how he’s been forced to go to Sweden to give birth 😬

Yes, must be pretty hard on them. They don't get a look in. All these munchy mums are solely dedicated to their trans children.

Surely FM can use all the money raised to go to Sweden in the first place?
vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 03/03/2022 11:26

"forced" to go to Sweden? Wow.

I'm generally sympathetic and compassionate but, I'm really struggling to keep that up for this person.

Part of being a parent is realising that it's not all about you, isn't it?

Rococococo · 03/03/2022 11:31

Yes, forced 😢

@Rococococo

Yes, forced 😢
PMSL at “His first child has no birth certificate”

That’s because the wording on the birth certificate isn’t to the liking of the child’s mother 🤦‍♀️

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 03/03/2022 11:37

And, that's a point, I thought it is a crime to not register your child?

I bet they do have one.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 03/03/2022 11:38

Pretty sure that the first born has a birth certificate. It might just not be one that FM recognises as his true birth certificate.

KittenKong · 03/03/2022 11:38

You get fined don’t you?

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 03/03/2022 11:43

What does FM mean by that FM "continues to have no legal recognition"?

Does it mean "as the child's father"? Because, I think the court case was clear, FM is the parent, but not the type of parent that FM is trying to be recognised. That, is, erm, legal recognition, right?

loislovesstewie · 03/03/2022 11:44

For goodness’ sake; when will Freddie realize that human men don't give birth? I really do struggle with this nonsense.

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 03/03/2022 11:44

An infant without a birth certificate would be a massive safeguarding issue, wouldn't it?

Rococococo · 03/03/2022 11:46

I genuinely don’t understand the logic of this. How would children of a transgender parent would be put at risk of discrimination or harassment if their parent’s original sex is recorded on their birth certificate?

The examples given here on Freddy’s fundraiser are things like applying for a passport, taking exams, drawing a pension etc. How would the admin person processing those forms have any idea that the applicant’s parent was transgender?? How would the subject even come up?

Not if you are a very special person to whom normal rules do not apply.

FrancescaContini · 03/03/2022 11:48

I don’t understand why the crowdfunder was needed. FM’s mum openly writes about “our finca” in Spain, and rents out a “stylish Georgian apartment that sleeps seven” for £107 per night.

But they expect other people to fund their trip to Sweden to give birth, complete with bilingual doula?

DobbyTheHouseElk · 03/03/2022 11:49

I wonder if they have any interaction from SS. Or do they all give a wide berth not wanting to be labelled as transphobic?

You can’t keep the sex of a child secret from everyone forever. Certainly not when the child goes to nursery/school. Unless you homeschool.

FrancescaContini · 03/03/2022 11:49

Yes. Huge 🚩
Clymene · 03/03/2022 11:49

@DobbyTheHouseElk

Pretty sure that the first born has a birth certificate. It might just not be one that FM recognises as his true birth certificate.
Given that Freddy's son spent a long time in the family's holiday house in Spain last year, I think the statement that he has no birth certificate is untrue. And FM and mum were also planning on taking him to Sweden.

If he has a passport, he has a birth certificate.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 03/03/2022 11:51

I think there is the truth and then FM’s truth.

Strikes me that FM is a very damaged individual with a lot of insecurities and angst.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 03/03/2022 11:57

I'm at a loss to think why anybody would support this crowdfunder. FM and mother appear to post a great deal on social media so anybody who supports FM's cause presumably knows all the stuff mentioned on this thread. Do they just not care about truth and accuracy? Have they lost all capacity for critical thinking, or never had it to start with?

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 03/03/2022 12:01

See, this is a problem that FM cannot manage.

Children say what they see. I don't expect that anyone in FM's circle does that. The older kid is still pre-school, once FM is at the school gate then all manner of transphobia will be unleashed by hateful, bigoted 5 year olds.

Yes, FM could home school, but even then, the kid needs to socialise. home school children are not isolated from other children.

FM's too young to have read Flowers in the Attic, right? It's a totally bat shit, unpleasant book - but, less batshit than forced birth abroad during a pandemic.
