Please sign into CSP and look at the new iCSP discussion "Stonewall and the CSP"

A great thread beginning and agreement that stonewall are problematic and women's rights are being overlapped by male rights

Then a HUGE ESSAY by a TRA

Good grief. Are trade unions allowed to control the speech of members?

Do they message you to tell you what the problem is with your, possibly unintentional, post?

To be honest, if reading a post causes a person distress then I'd suggest a wee holiday and/or chat with their GP - not trying to edit the world to suit.

Calyx72 · 14/04/2024 18:21

It really is overreach imo

Rob has posted again to say he’s had to remove some posts as they are transphobic 🙄

Anklesprainssuck · 15/04/2024 17:23

Loosing respect more and more for the CSP- as this is clearly censorship, waiting for the guidance he refers to with baited breath…( no doubt there will be reams on pronouns)
‘Professional guidance on treating trans patients will be out later this year. This will explain how clinicians can respect a patient’s gender identity whilst ensuring appropriate treatment which recognises their sex assigned at birth. ‘

Anklesprainssuck · 15/04/2024 17:29

Also- out of interest ,who actually is producing this guidance…

RadFiz · 15/04/2024 20:02

At the moment I think no one, as it doesn’t sound like it’s been written yet.

RadFiz · 16/04/2024 09:19

Well that’s interesting. Clearly not everyone associated with the organisation agrees with the statement if one of them (presumably) leaked confidential memos!

tonybasil · 17/04/2024 14:13

Forgive my ignorance but do we actually need to be members of the CSP to practice? Can we boycott it?

LouisaGuy · 17/04/2024 17:12

I'd like to leave the CSP but where to go? I am planning to ask if CSP membership is a condition of my employment to see if I can leave and get insurance elsewhere. Fingers crossed.

VenusEnvyXX · 17/04/2024 17:43

No, @tonybasil membership is not obligatory.

You would lose your insurance and trade union protections, though.

There are alternatives, I know many private physios left and found other insurance. I joined the Free Speech Union who are very good, if very busy.

You have to be registered with the HCPC to work as a physiotherapist and if you are not then you cannot call yourself a physiotherapist.

There doesn't seem to be anything preventing a person struck off from calling themselves, say, "frank, funny, factual, feminist, formerly Fellow, formerly fanny physio" though.

Which has a certain ring to it, no?

Have been lurking on this thread for sometime, as a physio working in the NHS (community therapy).
Re. Unions. I am covered for professional and public liability via my Trust's legal scheme, so have been looking for an alternative union for employment rights and support.
A couple of people have mentioned the Free Speech Union but on reading its website, the packages include things like 'help and support' and the obvious focus on defending free speech, however, it's not clear whether this is the same type of support you'd get from a trade union for employment issues. Can anyone advise?
Otherwise, I have been looking at Unite (decided not to go there) and Unison (also apparently captured). Any thoughts?

Reduxx has a big reach. It looks like a small site, but, it's mined by journalists for stories and shouldn't be dismissed as a "niche feminist news site".

I'll attach their work on WPATH and it's Eunuch Files - but please be aware that it is awful stuff.

WPATH is what the POGP base their trans advice on. I did offer to help but they preferred to get advice from someone's trans identified relative than from me. To be fair, lots of NHS resources quote WPATH because WPATH positioned themselves as experts. They are not a serious organisation, they are a patient/festishist lobby group.

Academics Involved With Top Transgender Health Authority Publish Paper on "Choosing Castration" - Reduxx

Academics affiliated with a top transgender health association have released a paper in collaboration with participants of a castration fetish forum that hosts fantasy child sexual abuse material. On November 3, the Archives of Sexual Behavior publishe...

VenusEnvyXX · 18/04/2024 00:02

For clarity...

WPATH are a patient/fetishist lobby group. POGP are a charity which exists to support some of its members.

What are your governance structures?

Are there no avenues to explore to ask for equity of consideration for GC beliefs?

stealtheatingtunnocks · 18/04/2024 17:43

Not now, I think just raising it would be transphibic and the words would be removed.

bringmelaughter · 18/04/2024 19:53

There is a further worrying aspect that no one on the comments has picked up. Aside from Elaine, Rob and one person in support of the statement, all other comments are anonymous.

We really do not have psychological safety as a profession and this demonstrates it. There is no engaging in even gentle, let alone robust, discussion that we should be able to have as clinicians.

The CSP should be encouraging respectful and robust discussion. Instead they are shutting it down. There is no room for nuance or an acknowledgment of complexity. It is all so disappointing.

Calyx72 · 18/04/2024 21:22

Agreed. That's why I started the thread way back. It's awful.
