"The consultation document contains no clear definition of what
will amount to “conversion therapy” caught by its proposals, nor of the meaning
of “transgender” – a term which has no clear legal meaning, is potentially wider
than the concept of gender reassignment in current UK law, and is understood
by different people in different ways"

Re conversion therapy

Wow! It will be ignored, I imagine.

Now that is very interesting!

Just reading the letter now

As you know, some lawyers, academics, data users and others have increasingly expressed concerns about the potential implications of changing the current criteria for obtaining a Gender Recognition Certificate (GRC)
These concerns centre on the potential consequences for individuals and society of extending the ability to change legal sex from a small defined group, who have demonstrated their commitment and ability to live in their acquired gender, to a wider group who identify as the opposite gender at a given point. The potential consequences include those relating to the collection and use of data, participation and drug testing in competitive sport, measures to address barriers facing women, and practices within the criminal justice system, inter alia

Is a good start - did Baroness Falkner lift it from here Grin

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 26/01/2022 16:01

That's encouraging. Agree, Nicola will ignore it, but, it's at least a decent bit of ammo. Or XP, for the young'uns.

I'll be using it for my next email to my MSP. Who is very busy ignoring all my other emails.

WarriorN · 26/01/2022 16:03

Of course twitter says the ehrc are Tory puppets and transphobic.

The response to the consultation on conversion therapy could also have been lifted directly from here- the gist of it is that they feel it would be wise to decouple the ban on conversion therapy relating to sexual orientation from that relating to gender identity. The concern being the lack of any legal foundation or definition for what being transgender or having a gender identity is, and what conversion therapy, if it is happening, would look like or be intended to achieve.

There’s a lot to chew over here, but at a first glance, this is really encouraging!

I've seen one female msp proclaiming this damages trans rights. HmmHmmHmm

Did she manage any explanation?

Or was it just a proclamation?

ArabellaScott · 26/01/2022 16:09

Would that be the consultation they refused to publish, I wonder?
SamphiretheStickerist · 26/01/2022 16:16

Ah! A wordy proclamation it is then!

And the tweets responding on the EHRC one!

Mind boggling what some people think is a reasonable response to a legal organisation about a legal situation. It's like they are responding to toddlers.

SamphiretheStickerist · 26/01/2022 16:18

Oh yes. I had forgotten that Our Nicky had promised a revelation... and then just pretended none of it had ever happened Smile

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 26/01/2022 16:21

This reply to Maggie Chapman says it all:

I’m sure if your arguments are so strong, you will brush them away easily, in a public - not behind closed doors - manner.

What utterly fabulous news. Finally. Common sense.

The TRAs and a lot of men are very angry and do not care about women and girls.

Honestly such relief. I know it by no men's over but I'm horrified at what's happening to is in Scotland.
