"Due process"

Has it gone through due process?

She is very very upset. Bless.

WarriorN · 27/01/2022 08:39

"Opportunities for Those concerns to be well aired"

They're not allowing this to be aired so why the fuss?

‘Many of the critics are Transphobs’ she says. Trauma and suffering of trans people?

That’s Maggie Chapman of the Scottish greens everyone.

Remember when the greens were science based, save the planet types?

WarriorN · 27/01/2022 08:40

Ah that's who's upthread

Tabbycat80 · 27/01/2022 08:42

Justin was great. Really not putting up with her clueless inability to properly tackle his questions. There was a time when I voted Green but they've really blown it.

KittenKong · 27/01/2022 08:46

She sounded quite unhinged and very unprepared. I guess they are used to having no one question them or actually thinking through their chants.

That’s what happens when you politic by yoof.

BringMeTea · 27/01/2022 08:53

Justin was marvellous. Her, ranting liar.

KittenKong · 27/01/2022 08:54

She seemed absolutely unprepared to address any questioning. How can people take her seriously?

TheBitterBoy · 27/01/2022 08:56

It's not Justin, it's Nick Robinson

nauticant · 27/01/2022 08:56

You won't be surprised to hear that Maggie Chapman, Green MSP, was as coherent on the Today programme as the reply tweets the EHRC attracted on twitter.

BringMeTea · 27/01/2022 08:58

Sorry yes, Nick.

BettyFilous · 27/01/2022 09:00

@WarriorN

Justin is on fire!
It was Nick Robinson today I think. He gets it. Good, robust questioning.

The Scottish Greens woman doesn’t care and is either uninformed or wilfully blind.

WarriorN · 27/01/2022 09:03

Ooop sorry nick!

This is excellent news. I hope the Women and Equalities Select Committee are paying attention.

This Maggie Chapman?

She's a great asset to the gc cause.

ArabellaScott · 27/01/2022 10:02

@WarriorN

Can I check, were the results of the consultations published?
They published 'independent analysis' of the consultations but it all seemed to have been carefully curated. Will see if I can find it ...
littlbrowndog · 27/01/2022 10:05

I don’t understand why the greens in Scotland don’t just get on with the green stuff

Patrick harvie and Lorna slater of the greens in Scotland are just the same

JustSpeculation · 27/01/2022 10:12

[quote delurkasaurus]@JustSpeculation they both are?

Looks that way. I would imagine a Minister of State outranks a mere Minister, so they aimed low?

Increasingly, when TRAs throw what are effectively tantrums, I’m reminded of Britten’s Hymn To St Cecilia - the second section, that sounds like a game of tag between sopranos & tenors over Sensible Adult Movement by altos & basses; singing about a refusal to grow up or change, demanding to be loved - & denying their behaviour could hurt others. The third section, though? That’s what I’m hoping we’re on the brink of. Growing up & the consequences of that - eg the “ruined languages”. Oh dear goodness I’m ready for “a world of truths that never change”* & all the rest a bare minimum of textual analysis of Auden’s words suggests could be ours.

And after that musical interlude Blush

Stonewall were trending on Twitter last night with their utter outrage at the EHRC producing a balanced response & pointing out women have rights. Mind you, within the trend was a tweet from one of their staff about “transphobic language” on the BBC - said language being a doctor saying “women” instead of “people with uteruses”. Apparently they did so repeatedly after using “people with uteruses” once. This trans-erasure means it is no longer safe to listen to the station in question, apparently. It is so very adolescent - in the worst of ways, & NAAALT - to demand people’s feelings about their identity be privileged over making healthcare messages accessible to as many women as possible. Privilege & luxury beliefs again, I suppose.

The constant refrain all trans people have experienced trauma is of huge concern. I don’t doubt in the slightest that there are trans people who have experienced trauma - but when words are “literal violence” & stickers on lampposts are hate-crimes impelling their safety, it becomes worryingly easy to dismiss the entirety of “trans people are so dreadfully oppressed & constantly under threat & undergoing traumatic experiences” because of the hyperbole. Calling a bit of ribbon near your workplace a hate-crime, for example, absolutely risks a boy who cried wolf situation: Stonewall et al (including the police services who essentially act as their enforcers) are failing the T here as well as the LGB because when it all falls apart there will be real victims left unsupported.

  • not in sense rejecting scientific advances etc, but no more “sex is a spectrum” and the like
WarriorN · 27/01/2022 10:58

Maggie has re tweeted a thread that clearly sets out what the proposals say.

One key one is that after quicker access to transition they "intend to be trans till death."

What happens if you transition? Do we make those promises in other situations? Marriage is supposed to be to death but we all know what divorce is for.

Where do children fit in if they can't properly explore who they are?

God they're idiots

One key one is that after quicker access to transition they "intend to be trans till death."

But trans can be fluid, can't it. Look at Pips Bunce and Eddie Izzard. You can be a boy one day and a girl the next. Or is she saying that those two people aren't trans?

You can also be trans without any modification whatsoever. So how's that going to work?

And can you imagine telling a child that unless they carry on being trans for the rest of their life, they will be prosecuted.

Not just idiots, they're absolutely dangerous.
