Apt typo Grin

GoatsareGOAT · 26/01/2022 16:44

Oh please please please make this be enough to force them to "kick it down the road" into the long long grass

MummBRaaarrrTheEverLeaking · 26/01/2022 16:46

The toy chucking from prams on Twitter has begun in earnest...Grin

Anything, just the teeniest little thing that gives the slightest consideration for women, as a sex class; and it's 'bigot' this, 'scum' that, 'you don't want us to be safe!' Oh the drama!

This is how you know a lot of it is just woman hate, because that was a rather balanced letter. They don't do balance. They want to take everything from women, and have a Class A tantrum when anyone says no.

Yep!

ArabellaScott · 26/01/2022 16:50

It's a brilliant letter. Font is size 14 and it's double spaced - EHRC are spelling it all out Very Clearly.

Completely. It's instructive to watch. Anyone who is undecided as to which side is 'reasonable' in this 'both sided' argument would do well to look at the responses to the EHRC's measured letter; informed advice from an expert organisation.
highame · 26/01/2022 17:02

If the Scottish Government ignore the EHRC, then a case to the courts would most likely win.

Omicrone · 26/01/2022 17:04

Oh my god....this is pretty significant isn't it?!

malloo · 26/01/2022 17:18

I am cautiously optimistic! Thanks for posting

dolorsit · 26/01/2022 17:34

The responses to the tweet are quite something.

It's reassuring for definite. I wonder will it be likely to sway anything, though? Any more savvy mners want to speculate?
Datun · 26/01/2022 17:51

This is great news.

There will be huge pushback, but surely anything that goes against this advice would be up for legal challenge in the future.

The consultation document contains no clear definition of what will amount to “conversion therapy”, nor of the meaning of “transgender” – a term which has no clear legal meaning

Maybe, finally, people have woken up to the fact that these questions simply cannot be answered.

You cannot adequately describe what a transgender woman is, because being a woman is not a feeling that a man can ever have.

I mean, we've only been shouting it from the rooftops for what? Seven or eight years?

You can't make transgenderism law, if it has absolutely no definition. And by the same token you can't make provision for the banning of the conversion of a condition that you can't define in the first place.

Personally, I believe the overreach of claiming that the cure for gender dysphoria amounts to conversion therapy, exposes the motivation of those who have coined it 'gender euphoria'.

highame · 26/01/2022 17:57

It's that old sex word again, can't seem to get around it, not matter how many times you say gender

InvisibleDragon · 26/01/2022 18:02

A side note, but I think this should also be good news for James Esses' case. Given that he was allegedly expunged and slandered for saying what the EHRC have just said about the Conversion Therapy proposals.

WarriorN · 26/01/2022 18:23

There's quite a few people who should be exonerated according to quotes within both those documents.

What they hate is women's sex based rights ever being acknowledged as a concept by anyone at all. It isn't a good look when they have to argue against things most people think are a given, like being able to access female only rape shelters or counselling.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 26/01/2022 18:59

"Gender" is fluffy nonsense that can mean using emojis as pronouns and identifying as a sexless being. It has no place being elevated over sex.

Manderleyagain · 26/01/2022 19:36

New tweets from ehrc

"The current polarised debate is causing much harm and distress to people on all sides. Everyone’s concerns should be discussed and addressed carefully, openly and with respect, to avoid further damage and division. (1/5)

In light of the concerns raised since proposals to reform the Gender Recognition Act were consulted on, we have come to the view that further consideration is needed before any change to the law should be made. (2/5)

But we continue to call strongly for improvements to how it is implemented in practice, including far more and far faster services for people with gender dysphoria. (3/5)

As Britain’s regulator of equality and human rights law, we consider that the established legal concept of sex, together with the existing protections from gender reassignment discrimination for trans people and the ability for them to obtain legal recognition of their (4/5)

gender, collectively provide the right, balanced legal framework for the protection of everyone. This includes protecting trans people from discrimination and harassment and safeguarding of their human rights. (5/5)"

I've been watching this for 3 and a half years, and this is a huge shift in their position and tone. Huge changes afoot. This is because so many women have been raising this, including some who are very impressive and good at campaigning.

Manderleyagain · 26/01/2022 19:42

When I first started reading about this ehrc showed such a lack of clarity, no recognition of a need to balance rights in this area or that these rights could come into conflict, and showed no real commitment to the pc of sex. Their language was the fuzzy obfuscation that we are used to from ppl trying to push through self id, and the replacement of sex with gi in policy. I did not feel that women's rights as female ppl were in good hands at all. I know this is only a return to a more sensible approach but I am really relieved to see it.

PaleBlueMoonlight · 26/01/2022 19:47

Really good, with my only warning note being whether they are trying to suggest that it is a human right to be able to change your legal gender.

Mollyollydolly · 26/01/2022 19:48

This is such good news. I'm glad to see their misgivings about the Conversion Therapy bill too as that's felt like an impossible battle. So good to see nuanced and balance.

donquixotedelamancha · 26/01/2022 19:58

It's so bizarre that people are convinced that the government body dedicated to equality is 'right wing' and biased just because it disagrees with them.

No need to engage with the arguments. No clue that these people might have some expertise in this area.

moomee12 · 26/01/2022 19:58

These concerns centre on the potential consequences for individuals and society of extending the ability to change legal sex from a small defined group, who have demonstrated their commitment and ability to live in their acquired gender, to a wider group who identify as the opposite gender at a given point. The potential consequences include those relating to the collection and use of data, participation and drug testing in competitive sport, measures to address barriers facing women, and practices within the criminal justice system

Excellent wording.

moomee12 · 26/01/2022 19:59

@ItsAllGoingToBeFine

This reply to Maggie Chapman says it all:

I’m sure if your arguments are so strong, you will brush them away easily, in a public - not behind closed doors - manner.
