Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

GDPR and lost "likes" on JKR's Twitter posts

As most of us are aware, Twitter covertly removes "likes" from posts the moderators dislike but can't ban because they're well within the rules.

I'm not an expert in GDPR law, but since I own my Twitter account (or rather the information posted), is there scope for me/other GC feminists to demand that Twitter release data on likes removed and explain why?

I'll seek legal advice before acting (which I can afford - this isn't a plea for crowdfunding!) but am wondering whether anyone has tried this tactic previously?

@newnamesa

There's a Gender Critical block list? Confused
It makes “no debate” so much easier if you block everyone with that might not agree with you.

And they say it’s GC people that live in an echo chamber 🙄

Scraggythang · 19/01/2022 09:37

Well, this thread certainly brought all the they/thems to the yard.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 19/01/2022 09:38

Weird how so many fellow "TRAs" were all blocked by the usual "Gender Critical" accounts at the time. Accounts that didn't follow "Cult Blocker Pro"

Yeah. Cos we are female, James. Not stupid. We recognise TRAs and, as individuals, choose to block them from our accounts.

We don't need a list. We have eyes!

OvaHere · 19/01/2022 09:39

@Zorayda

I agree with previous posters that there's something very disturbing about a poster coming onto Mumsnet to boast that they're involved in and sharing content with the developers/contributors/supporters of tech specifically designed to silence women who are raising safeguarding concerns. Woolbert TerfTracker and 15yo stepdaughter, Challenor TerfBlocker and 10yo girl, Bailey Shinigami Eyes TerfHunter and 14yo girl. All the major anti-terf tech is produced by male sex offenders. Why brag about association with it on this section of this site?
Quite.
Helleofabore · 19/01/2022 09:41

People who resort to using block lists lack the maturity to participate in social media forum they have chosen to use.

It is as simple as that.

If someone cannot handle discussion about the things they say on social media, they shouldn’t be on that platform. If they feel they need to be protected and ‘safe’, they need to consider just how poor their mental health is and seek help.

And yet…. A person proud of their contribution to creating a ‘safe’ bubble for people to interact in is right here accusing us of being in an echo chamber.

The hypocrisy is hilarious.

Beefcurtains79 · 19/01/2022 10:17

I’d wondered why my likes kept disappearing before my eyes. I’ve actually filmed it a few times to be sure I wasn’t imagining it. Hmmmm.

😂 Yes.

VelvetChairGirl · 19/01/2022 10:26

The best thing to do is close your twitter account and leave them to their misogynistic sausage fest. twitter is a toxic hole.

perhaps in a few months we can all look in to see just how mental they all are in their echo chamber, they are sure to deteriorate and become increasingly sexist once they think no one else is looking.

they are doing an excellent job of getting hoisted by their own petard as it is.

dolorsit · 19/01/2022 10:33

This block list that is used by "GC people" has it ever been mentioned on this board before?

You would think it would have been mentioned when there have been discussions about echo chambers.

Nevertheless it would seem some safe spaces/echo chambers are more valid than others.

plus ça change

FYI, I don't use a group block and I don't block trans activists by default. But if an account uses 'terf blocker' and blocks me, or puts me on a list such as 'terf cunts' or similar, I block them.

Well quite. I can imagine that women's thought processes will generally be 'hmm, that person is deeply unpleasant. I'll block them so I don't have to interact with them again' rather than 'I'll block every person who disagrees with me and create an echo chamber'.
MiladyBerserko · 19/01/2022 19:16

Ha ha, good to know which tras are monitoring us insignificants.

Good to know we are being discussed in some closed group. We must really rip their knitting.

It's such a tell isn't it? I love to see it Grin

The latest thing my Twitter is doing is the app informs me of 19 likes and then there are none. Confused

Alternatively, people can create whatever online space they want - you're no more entitled to interact with a random person on Twitter than you are to be added to some random person's Facebook so you can disagree with every status they post.

I find it odd that you assume otherwise. I block anyone on social media who I find even slightly annoying because why would I spend my 'pointless relaxing scrolling time' being annoyed?

Helleofabore · 19/01/2022 23:24

Yes housemaus, but do you use a block list of predetermined ‘bad people’ to do it? Made by other people’s interpretation.

Or do you make a choice for yourself based on what you personally see and judge from there.

Helleofabore · 19/01/2022 23:25

And you can also substitute ‘annoying’ or whatever other negative descriptor you want?

WarriorN · 20/01/2022 06:33

Being in mind the attitude of these TRAs is to create a list of "problematic women."

Some they provide for blocking on twitter. Others are lists of names shared - which has concerned many of us in the past. Mainly as women have been targeted in appalling manners and physically through real life doxxing, sending unwanted things to addresses etc. Not just women; as the Glinner article upthread details, a teacher of young people with autism was so badly harassed by tras that he lost his job.

A list of user names posting the most on trans issues on mumsnet was complied a couple of years ago.

Whole other thing to simply muting or unfollowing people who annoy you.

Oh yes, the web scraper creep.

I have close family members who are still very much in thrall to genderism, I wonder if they have seen my name?
They probably have as I am openly GC irl. I wonder if they have helped compile data on me, or have they quietly said nothing? I wonder how they feel about this?

Wow, welcome to 2022 women.

Its a horryifying new world. Sad
