GDPR and lost "likes" on JKR's Twitter posts

As most of us are aware, Twitter covertly removes "likes" from posts the moderators dislike but can't ban because they're well within the rules.

I'm not an expert in GDPR law, but since I own my Twitter account (or rather the information posted), is there scope for me/other GC feminists to demand that Twitter release data on likes removed and explain why?

I'll seek legal advice before acting (which I can afford - this isn't a plea for crowdfunding!) but am wondering whether anyone has tried this tactic previously?

Scuse me while I laugh.

The idea that ANY social media stream is NOT manipulated is laughable. That's how the bloody things work, ffs! There is literally no part of any SM stream that can not be manipulated. Even a 10 year old can write the command strings. And @ool0n your attempt to "explain" away the idea is laughable too. Half stories do not convince!

As for the Now I change my view based on evidence comment, OMG! Could you oblige this little woman and apply that to the question "What is a woman" or any of the as yet unanswered questions that abound in these parts?

ool0n · 18/01/2022 13:28

@OvaHere

Seriously just go away. Nobody is going to be doing the homework you seem to think you can set for us. So what if women are discussing Twitter machinations between ourselves, erroneously or otherwise. Your pomposity is painful.
Good luck with the lawsuit then, not like courts rely on objective evidence or anything Grin

Gender ideology myth number 33 comes to mind
"It never happens".

What lawsuit? The question was - is there any way we can force Twitter to give us the specific information?

OvaHere · 18/01/2022 13:32

I'm not part of any lawsuit.

ool0n · 18/01/2022 13:38

"I'll seek legal advice before acting" ... Again, if you want to force Twitter to reveal information based on the law, don't you think you need some objective basis for doing so? Just spam them a request for "likes removed" from x tweets and they'll reply they don't remove likes. Prove they do remove likes, or treat the liking mechanism differently on some tweets - and you have a pretty big case and story. The right wing media machine would eat it up, they too are "silenced" constantly.

ool0n · 18/01/2022 13:42

My proposal would actually really help you, if you could prove objectively likes are removed. Or certain tweets can't be liked when others from the same timeframe can be, that would be the basis of a story at the very least. Probably still no legal case as they're a private platform and they could manipulate the numbers however they like. As people point out they likely do for trending topics etc, although they again claim it is entirely algorithmic now and I have no reason to disbelieve them. Any proof conservatives were being treated differently would be front page news in the US.

At the moment your claim is so nuts not even the US conspiracy theorist websites have picked it up it seems?

CuriousaboutSamphire · 18/01/2022 13:45

Yeah, that's kind of the point. That's how FOI requests work and @Crimesean asked if there was anything simialr that could be used on Twitter.

A lwasuit could stem from that... lots and lots of possible reasons for one. Quite a few being supported in courts as we speak!

OvaHere · 18/01/2022 13:46

You seem really vexed by this. I'm beginning to think you doth protest too much.

Needmoresleep · 18/01/2022 13:49

ool0n is calling people "nuts" your normal form of debate.

I am in the UK (are you?) though look at US chat rooms. I am surprised that you have not spotted strange movements in trends. Others have. There is starting to be a body of research, including the use of bots. Some linked to majority US PR agencies who are hired to protect reputations or push policies.

Women of MN, please be careful about clicking links.

Casamadrigal · 18/01/2022 13:54

If you honestly are naive enough to believe that a large social media platform with a strong left wing bias, a history of banning women for stating facts such as women not having penises, a history of deleting gender critical women and men’s accounts permanently, and that we know to have a disproportionately high number of trans and woke employees - if you are honestly naive enough to believe that they are not manipulating likes on a popular gender critical post - you are quite shockingly naive and devoid of critical thinking skills.

But then, you people believe that women can have penises and men can have babies, so I shouldn’t really be surprised.

WarriorN · 18/01/2022 13:54

My like was there for over a year. When others were saying theirs had gone.

Then a couple of months ago I started posting a lot more on twitter.

And poof, after a few weeks, the like was gone.

VestofAbsurdity · 18/01/2022 13:55

Good advice.

Especially links provided by someone who openly admits to running terfblocker and transphobe block lists.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 18/01/2022 13:55

A will repeat that

BEWARE OF CLICKING LINKS

Helleofabore · 18/01/2022 14:02

Especially links provided by someone who openly admits to running terfblocker and transphobe block lists.

So, a person who has affiliation with terfblocker and other lists is here posting links?

Bragging about their cyber prowess?

Wonderful. What did we do to deserve this esteemed attention? Oohh... I know.... we are women (and some men) who disagree with them.

thinkingaboutLangCleg · 18/01/2022 14:17

Funny how women are being told not to believe the evidence of their own eyes here. Funny that’s exactly what the same people tell us about people we see as men when they say they’re women. Gaslighting in one case, so presumably in both?

CuriousaboutSamphire · 18/01/2022 14:33

Anecdata, godammit! Your life experience is just one minute anecdatum - and don't you ever forget it!

Ereshkigalangcleg · 18/01/2022 14:37

Women of MN, please be careful about clicking links.

This.

WarriorN · 18/01/2022 14:44

Can @mnhq check these posters posting links?

WarriorN · 18/01/2022 14:46

I don't trust many posters here tbh.

My user name was on a random list of naughty terfy mn ers once.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 18/01/2022 15:15

And we all know how much JB/Sprout loves a list!

newnamesa · 18/01/2022 15:40

is anyone else weirded out that the software that posters here are boasting about working for was invented by a convicted peodophile?

Im feeling really creeped out.

Mycuprunnethover · 18/01/2022 15:46
