GDPR and lost "likes" on JKR's Twitter posts

196 replies

As most of us are aware, Twitter covertly removes "likes" from posts the moderators dislike but can't ban because they're well within the rules.

I'm not an expert in GDPR law, but since I own my Twitter account (or rather the information posted), is there scope for me/other GC feminists to demand that Twitter release data on likes removed and explain why?

I'll seek legal advice before acting (which I can afford - this isn't a plea for crowdfunding!) but am wondering whether anyone has tried this tactic previously?

@Helleofabore might want to check out the plank in thine eye, "Gender Critical" people ran the largest blocklist on Twitter for quite some time. The "Cult Blocker Pro", with over 20k "TRAs" blocked. Oh my! I don't need to invent bizarre associations from that to pedos, as I don't think blocking people on Twitter is quite so scary.

This really is a masterclass in propaganda, I have to thank you for that.

Oh my life I'm in stitches!

Who mentioned the irony meter upthread?!

WarriorN · 18/01/2022 18:44

@MargaritaPie

I understand if a Twitter account is suspended, any likes made by the account will be removed and no longer count.

Never been suspended.

It certainly belongs in FWR classics.

Full bingo card including right wing smears.

Just a reminder MN women - be very wary of clicking on links.

Is JKR on the transphobeB list?

Weird how so many fellow "TRAs" were all blocked by the usual "Gender Critical" accounts at the time. Accounts that didn't follow "Cult Blocker Pro"

Must be coincidence and not that the "GC" people didn't want to look silly (Sorry, more silly than usual) by claiming to be "silenced" by blocking lists, while using one? Anyway I was proudly blocked by it, as were all my friends on Twitter. We made a big mistake of not pretending we were "silenced" by a blocklist in articles in the Telegraph, the Times, the Sun, the Guardian, etc, etc ... Wink

@DialSquare

Is JKR on the transphobeB list?
Easy to check, and yes it looks like she is - www.theblockbot.com/show-blocks/XpbppP2pPG8FFhbeApYs5hxPegJbrz37qRzZoW2O?screen_name=jk_rowling
DialSquare · 18/01/2022 18:54

Why is she? She's not transphobic.

WarriorN · 18/01/2022 18:55

As per the ceo of stonewall; referenced on WH recently.

Click clock

ool0n · 18/01/2022 18:58

@DialSquare

Why is she? She's not transphobic.
What she said is, for me primarily spreading the pseudoscience of "ROGD", used as justification to abuse trans kids. Years after the Litmann paper there's still not one trans kid "diagnosed" or studied as exhibiting this made up syndrome. But a nice simple explainer here - katymontgomerie.medium.com/why-what-jk-rowling-said-is-transphobic-42081477afa1

Mind me asking why not? I'm hoping there's a good conspiracy theory, but something valid would be also interesting.

Links to spam or to "reset your paypal password" may well be dodgy, but otherwise as an IT pro and IT security bod I wouldn't be worried about clicking on links from you. Why should I?

"Pseudoscience"

Bowers says it's real.

Funny thing about truth: like the Genie, it can’t be shoved back into the bottle.

On Monday, I published probably the most important piece of my career thus farar_: an interview I did with two top gender medical providers – vaginoplasty expert and gender surgeon Dr. Marci Bowers and child psychologist at the UCSF gender clinic, Dr. Erica Anderson, who spoke candidly about risks of current treatment protocols guiding transgender medicine.*

For the first time in the U.S., top gender medical providers collectively acknowledged four facts: early puberty blockade can lead to significant surgical complication and also permanent sexual dysfunction; peer and social media influence do seem to play a role in encouraging the current, unprecedented spike in transgender identification by teen girls; and the World Professional Association of Transgender Health (WPATH) – of which both Bowers and Anderson are board members – has been excluding doctors who question current medical protocols to its detriment.

HouseOfGoldandBones · 18/01/2022 19:03

Of course they do.
What a silly statement.

WarriorN · 18/01/2022 19:03

Abigail Shrier

Gumbomambo · 18/01/2022 19:04

Katie Montgomery. Fucking hell!

DialSquare · 18/01/2022 19:06

I don't need to see Katie Montgomerie's perception of anything.
Can you point to anything that JKR has written directly that is Transphobic?

WarriorN · 18/01/2022 19:07

has been excluding doctors who question current medical protocols to its detriment.

The trans movement really doesn't like anyone questioning current protocols, do they? Women especially.

Why would that be?

DialSquare · 18/01/2022 19:07

Should we all let Arabella know that her waiting may soon be finally over?

HouseOfGoldandBones · 18/01/2022 19:08

I don't think it would be a GDPR issue, but if I had some extra money, I think I'd be looking into whether it is lawful to deny access to a service to those who don't hold a specific set of beliefs (gender ideology) & why any company operating in the UK can operate in a discriminatory way.

ool0n · 18/01/2022 19:08

@WarriorN "Bowers says it's real." -- appeal to authority

No one credible should say it is real when it has never been diagnosed in a trans child. True? When no study has ever studied the phenomenon in trans children. True?

No one should accept it is anything but a hypothesis until there are studies showing it exists. That's very basic 101 skepticism. Given it is 3 years since the study, and still no evidence it exists, I'm personally very happy to call it pseudoscience.
