Eddie Izzard….has he reverted back to male ID

Just watching Stay Close, 1st episode, and it has Eddie Izzard being a man. This seems at odds with his spouting of ‘I’ve always known I am a woman’ bullshit.

This got me thinking that I’ve not heard much about his womanly feelings or Sam ‘pratface’ Smith either. Have they backtracked a bit?

I thought Eddie said last year he/she was genderfluid. Interestingly the fluidity seems to be female for running and male for business, which raises a few questions!

OverByYer · 03/01/2022 20:43

Depends who is paying him and what the gig is by the sounds of it.

Mumteedum · 03/01/2022 20:46

I wondered about it too having watched same show but apparently EI is doing acting roles as a man and his personal life as a woman (as EI sees themself).

Can I identify as a man for career purposes? 🤔

JayAlfredPrufrock · 03/01/2022 20:52

I don’t care.

Yes definitely for career purposes we can all ID as men, and also for any medical issues we actually need taking seriously! Oh but most of those are 'women's problems' so how on earth would we navigate that? Pesky biology.
Lovelymincepies · 03/01/2022 20:56

@JayAlfredPrufrock what a pointless comment, plus if you don’t care about the question why put an answer 🤷‍♀️

And for salary purposes obvs.
Lovelymincepies · 03/01/2022 20:58

Interesting that he chooses to be seen as man in acting roles, nothing to do with the gender pay devide then 🤷‍♀️

I’m pretty sure Graham Norton said “him” when referring to Eddie Izzard on last Friday’s show. I kind of clocked it at the time and thought, this must not be a massive deal or the would have cut that bit out surely.

thinkbiglittkeone · 03/01/2022 21:08

When I saw Eddie Izzard being interviewed, he stated he doesn't get annoyed or angry at anybody calling him he or she and the press ramp it up when he's really not bothered. He said he doesn't mind as he doesn't see himself as one for all the time anyway.

It was all over Twitter yesterday that Graham Norton had 'misgendered' EI.

I'd assumed s/he was taking male roles because there are very many more roles for slightly seedy looking males over 50 than there are for women of the same age.

How lovely to pick and choose which bits of womanhood you can be bothered with.

I cannot watch him any longer because of this behaviour. Used to be a huge fan in the '90s. But choosing a mode (age appropriate male or much younger girl: never age appropriate post menopausal woman, I note) depending on activity? Following the money maybe? Or am I too cynical?

dworky · 03/01/2022 21:17

He's very impressive. He not only manages to be in 'boy mode' for lucrative acting roles but knows in advance of the date when the film actually shoots. He's able to see into the future!

CruellaDeVilla · 03/01/2022 21:21

Stunning and brave I’d say

Lacedwithgrace · 03/01/2022 21:22

It's literally her job to be someone else.

Eddie is not a 'her'. Stop gaslighting women.
TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 03/01/2022 21:31

I used to be SUCH a fan. Eddie was defined for me by saying: “They’re not women’s clothes, they’re my clothes” and I really believed that here was someone who could rise above gender stereotypes and be themself. So gutted that Eddie has just clambered on to the bandwagon, and so cynically as well - imagine being able to conveniently identify as male whenever a good acting time comes along! 🤔

Eddie Izzard has never said "I've always known I was a woman" or anything similar. He isn't a trans woman and has never claimed to be one.
Theunamedcat · 03/01/2022 21:35

Didn't eddie have breast implants?

PatriotCanes · 03/01/2022 21:35

He used to do a whole routine about the dial of cool and how easy it was to push it from looking cool to looking like a twat. Foresight or what?

Can you provide an example of Eddie presenting as a "much younger girl"? Because whenever I've seen him in women's clothes it's always been in something perfectly appropriate for a woman of his age (unless you happen to have a very narrow and restrictive view of what a middle aged woman is allowed to wear).
