Eddie Izzard….has he reverted back to male ID

Just watching Stay Close, 1st episode, and it has Eddie Izzard being a man. This seems at odds with his spouting of ‘I’ve always known I am a woman’ bullshit.

This got me thinking that I’ve not heard much about his womanly feelings or Sam ‘pratface’ Smith either. Have they backtracked a bit?

@PhoenixIsFlying

Waitwhat23 How do you know that is what happened? Where did you source this information. He was also 23 (a very long time ago). I too, when younger used male toilets when the ladies was full. I wouldn't do it now (too smelly) but when I was younger I didn't care so much.
As @oldcrone has already said, I didn't have to source or quote anything other than Eddie's own words.

A grown man screaming at teenage girls because they have been (frankly) brave enough to challenge a man being in a space he shouldn't have been, where they (the girls) could be undressed and vulnerable, doesn't paint Eddie in the brave light he seems to think.

I don't particularly care if he was just 'popping in' or he was just changing his clothes. Using the larger size and strength he has as a male to intimidate children (they've been reported as being as young as 13) in a space he should not have been in is deeply concerning.

Mods, please note, I have used he in this post because I genuinely don't know which pronoun I should use. It seems to change depending on the situation, feeling or whether enough the work is lucrative enough.

Awful man.

Just that.

ThePrionOne · 05/01/2022 19:45

I’ve been watching it with my son, who doesn’t know who Eddie Izzard is. My son seemed to like Eddie’s character Harry quite a lot, which I found interesting. Obviously Eddie must continue to be quite magnetic, despite the conversion from transvestite (his own word) to trans.

@BlwyddynNewydd2022 you perhaps haven’t missed the past ten years of Eddie’s life, so much as you’ve missed the swingeing changes in transactivism in that time. There is now no acknowledged difference between transsexual and transvestite. Both are now trans and pointing out that a man is/was the latter is largely verboten.

There is now no acknowledged difference between transsexual and transvestite.

This merging of the two has been going on for a long time. At least since the 1990s when Press for Change (Christine Burns and Stephen Whittle) were campaigning for the GRA.

Eddie Izzard….has he reverted back to male ID

@MooseBeTimeForSnow

I saw him running (at a fair pace it has to be said!) along the waterfront in Vancouver in early December. Running tights, windbreaker and very heavily made up.
His running is in girl mode apparently.

You can't see it, but along with the warpaint & lady clothes, EI reduces his VO2 max and increases his body fat ratio for the duration of his workout.

It's quite a feat.

Mummyoflittledragon · 06/01/2022 05:44

I was also wondering the same thing. It doesn’t seem right. Either it’s ok for trans people to act within their biological sex and it’s for non trans people to act in trans roles or neither are ok.

Terfydactyl · 06/01/2022 11:14

@Abhannmor

He will just switch back and forth whenever he drops out of the limelight. The Izzard of Was.
And Ab wins the internet today. Fantastic.

I always thought that Eddie Izzard was a cross dresser not a trans sexual. That he preferred to dress in women’s clothing but had non of the feelings of being in the wrong body but rather the wrong trousers.
I have a close friend who is a cross dresser but less so now he has children. Back in the nineties when he was cross dressing it confused many people who assumed he was gay or wanted to be a woman. It’s much more complex than gender identity. My friend is a little eccentric like Eddie and the other well known artist Grayson Perry.
May or Eddie now feels that he slimed now as a trans woman but without the hormones and surgery I think he is still a man who prefers to dress in women’s clothing.
It has always been easier for men during periods where fashion was more extreme and they could explore wearing makeup and less rigidly stereotypical male clothing. The 80s were a fantastic time for men who wanted to explore this area without being judged. I went out with a couple of men who wore more makeup than me and were definitely far more beautiful than me. Unfortunately teenage boys can rock the look far better than 50 something men. And Eddie Izzard was one of them when I was in my 20s.

Angrymum22 · 06/01/2022 18:01

As for acting, surely if he transitioned properly he wouldn’t be able to play male roles anymore.

OverByYer · 08/01/2022 09:42

Exactly. He’s being duplicitous.
Male privilege at it’s best

IvyTwines · 08/01/2022 18:27

They're discussing 'Stay Close' on Radio 4 right now. James Nesbitt has just said 'she's fantastic in it'.

OverByYer · 08/01/2022 20:20

*eyeroll

BraveBananaBadge · 09/03/2022 12:00

Eddie is promoting Eddie's new 'one woman show' on social media today.

Musomama1 · 09/03/2022 12:35

Speaking of famous gender bending men, I wonder what Richard O Brien's views are?

His whole thing seemed to be about pushing against narrow definitions of masculinity and sexuality.

Please don't be a 'they' Richard.

Musomama1 · 09/03/2022 12:40

Ah, he's TG but at least says

You can’t be a woman. You can be an idea of a woman.

BuffaloPickle · 09/03/2022 12:56

Eddie's said that he is in 'boy mode' for work. I.e. when he needs to be respected and taken seriously..
