Eddie Izzard….has he reverted back to male ID

Just watching Stay Close, 1st episode, and it has Eddie Izzard being a man. This seems at odds with his spouting of ‘I’ve always known I am a woman’ bullshit.

This got me thinking that I’ve not heard much about his womanly feelings or Sam ‘pratface’ Smith either. Have they backtracked a bit?

@BlueberryCheezecake

I think you’ll find…

www.mirror.co.uk/3am/celebrity-news/eddie-izzard-knew-trans-before-23423666.amp

"Some people say [my mother's death is] linked to being trans but it really isn't because I knew beforehand and I don't think it's right. I think it's just built in."

Terfydactyl · 03/01/2022 21:41

@Theunamedcat

Didn't eddie have breast implants?
Not sure if implants or just some padded bra thing. Either way the breasts were in very much the wrong place. Looked ummm odd. I also used to very much like Eddie's humour but cant possibly ever watch Eddie again in anything old or new. Sellout
ArabellaScott · 03/01/2022 21:42

Well, threads about Eddie don't usually last long.

@BlueberryCheezecake I think EI has said they're a transwoman www.theguardian.com/film/2021/mar/12/eddie-izzard-ive-had-boob-envy-since-my-teens

Scraggythang · 03/01/2022 21:46

‘Boring mode’ and ‘girl mode’. I wonder why girl mode is more exciting..?

‘Boring mode’ and ‘girl mode’. I wonder why girl mode is more exciting..?
And boring mode is better paid
HepzibahGreen · 03/01/2022 21:54

What a coincidence that there are many many more roles for late middle aged men in film and TV than there are for late middle age women.
How lucky that boy mode kicks in for Eddie right when the role calls for an ageing man, rather than an ageing woman. Otherwise he might never work in acting again!

Mystery.

@BlueberryCheezecake I think you’ll find he has said he’s trans.

Eddie has said Eddie is trans, gender fluid, and variously male, and female.

Lovelymincepies · 03/01/2022 22:08

But being a woman isn’t a ‘mode’ and being a woman isn’t fluid.

I can’t suddenly be a man and get my pay increased but he is appearing to flip between wearing a frock and then a suit when it pays more. I did think he had switched to dressing like a woman all the time but clearly not.

I have even less respect for him now.

Was just having this discussion with my DS.

Nobody was bothered when EI wore a skirt or lipstick, it was just how he was, and he did it without giving a fuck. Now he has jumped on the gender bandwagon and it's a clusterfuck of misogyny. If more men felt comfortable like (earlier years) EI to not live up to masculine norms, then I reckon we'd have a lot less transgender women.

That Daily Mail article is a hoot. I think there must have a bet on in the office to see how many clichés could be shoe- horned in.

One version even referred to "shapely pins" (I remember commenting on it) but that disappeared from later versions.

Joolsin · 03/01/2022 22:17

I used to love his stand-up too, and admired his "my clothes" stance. But when I saw him sitting on Portrait Artist of the Year in "girl mode" I was gobsmacked - and not in a good way. As others have said, why is he "identifying" as being in "girl mode", and not "middle aged woman mode". Disgusted by his bragging about scaring off the teenage girls in the women's toilets and view with much cynicism his convenient swaps into "man mode" for the acting gigs.

sheroku · 03/01/2022 22:18

I'd be fascinated to sit opposite Eddie Izzard in my Doc Martens and jeans with my no make up and tatty finger nails and have him explain to me exactly what "girl mode" is.

So lucky!
OverByYer · 03/01/2022 22:23

I had huge admiration for the old Eddie who wore dresses and make up, and was funny. Now he has become a dull cliche.

PhoenixIsFlying · 03/01/2022 22:36

Why does it matter? If he is happy then why does it worry anyone else?

It really is the ultimate in male privilege isn't it.
He's a man or a woman whenever he wants to be.
Just shows how meaningless gender identity is.

YouSetTheTone · 04/01/2022 09:34

@PhoenixIsFlying

Why does it matter? If he is happy then why does it worry anyone else?
Because it impacts on other people. If EI decides to ‘be in girl mode’ and frightens girls in a bathroom for women and girls then it’s not making them very happy is it? Why does his happiness trump theirs? If EI used the men’s while dressing in feminine clothes/ makeup etc- fine knock yourself out luv. It’s when the nature of EI’s self expression impacts on women that it becomes an issue. No one would care if it didn’t impact women. Why would we?

If EI’s behaviour is extrapolated suddenly we have thousands of men theoretically capable of walking into women’s single sex spaces but remaining ‘male’ in the business world, only cropping up as ‘female’ again perhaps in arts arenas that enable a quick pop onto a women only shortlist for a prize. Basically a journey of nipping around all over the place helping themselves to things reserved for women.
That’s why ‘he’s happy why does it matter?’ matters.

dangerrabbit · 04/01/2022 09:58

This reminds me of when Caitlyn Jenner identified as a man again to attend her male only golf club.

"The most difficult thing about being a woman is deciding what to wear."

Phobiaphobic · 04/01/2022 10:13

Eddie Izzard is grifting in plain sight.

Lovelyricepudding · 04/01/2022 10:15

Was it quite so harmless when he wore skirts and lipstick and said they were his clothes not women's clothes? Why was he wearing them? Just because he liked them or because it was exciting in a way he is now becoming more honest about? (MN he certainly used 'he' at that time).

I often see it said on here that it is great when men are non-conforming and wear women's clothes so long as they don't call themselves women. But why are they wearing women's clothes? If they are just looking for a more eclectic look then they would wear florals/frills/delicate items cut to fit men - they don't, they wear women's clothes and I don't believe it is for convenience either.
