Tom Daley Christmas message

Tom Daley is giving the alternative Christmas message on Channel 4 this year.

www.channel4.com/press/news/tom-daley-deliver-2021-alternative-christmas-message

Scroll down the above page for the text of the speech.

I am fine with him praising Quinn but he skips over the other conflicting arguments and issues over including transwomen in women's sport.

He is however spot on with the ridiculousness of major sports granting the prestige of the top competitions to places with dubious human rights records.

Why are people so suprised a gay man is talking about inclusivity in sport? It's pretty cheesy but I don't know who could do it better.

It’s amazing isn’t it.. how a man knows exactly what he needs to produce children (a woman).
I’m bet he wouldn’t be so keen on people insisting that if he doesn’t want to have sex with a transgender woman he ought to be cancelled etc.
His love of knitting is stomach turning - it’s a show piece.
I don’t like him for his Christmas message alone.

It's interesting that Quinn (born woman) plays for the women's team ... the BBC said

'The 25-year-old remains eligible to compete in women's sport despite identifying as transgender because gender identity differs from a person's sex - their physical biology.'

Dozer · 21/12/2021 19:11

Remarkably unfair.

Omicrone · 21/12/2021 19:12

He is one of these men who knows exactly what a woman is when he is looking for someone to pay in order use their body for their own desires.

I don't like the man that much, but why is his knitting 'stomach churning?Confused

BaronessWrongCrowdRex · 21/12/2021 19:16

He’s such a misogynistic little toad. He knew what a woman was when he wanted a baby.

dropthevipers · 21/12/2021 19:51

What I find disturbing in all this is the number of people spouting the "TWAW" bullshit who must, surely know that it's bollocks? That they do must mean they haven't really thought it through or do know and are keen to avoid the pitchfork mob. Not great, either way. Still, maybe next year channel four will hire Butler for this gig.

KittenKong · 21/12/2021 20:08

You’d think an athlete would know more about physiology.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 21/12/2021 20:26

I don’t see what is remotely “inclusive” about including biological men in womens sport, it’s bloody scandalous not inclusive

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 21/12/2021 20:30

His knitting's not all that, either. Chunky knit, you can't do fuck all that's clever knitting with a chunky yarn.

He's very good at falling into water.

MissMinutes24 · 21/12/2021 20:35

I think we should start a campaign for more inclusivity in surrogacy - no LGB without the T right?

Transphobes like Daley won't even consider asking a transwoman to carry a baby for them. Because they are bigots

We need more inclusivity and visibility for transwoman who want to be surrogate mothers!

FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack · 21/12/2021 20:36

Man at top of his sport demands women make place in theirs for men.

No thanks...

SirVixofVixHall · 21/12/2021 20:48

@MsGoodenough

He's made me sick ever since he bought a baby. I don't think there's any hope he has any empathy with women.
This. No skin in the game, male athletes competing against women will never affect his career.
OperationDessertStorm · 21/12/2021 21:17

I think it could affect Tom’s sporting career - maybe Toms looking at a retirement plan and this would more than double Tom’s options for competition, funding and sponsorship simply by declaring an identity. Tom could probably do very well even in women’s boxing with a few months training.

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 21/12/2021 21:22

Good point, he could try having his own baby too, if he did, Operation.

dontknowwhattpputhere · 21/12/2021 21:36

"Women's sports seem to be further ahead than men's"
Really Tom? When some countries don't even allow women to play sports? When male sports are so much more visible than women's and male athletes get paid so much more (not due to a difference in effort?) Granted, perhaps lesbians are more accepted in female sports. But how many lesbian athletes can the average person even name? If you think women's sports are ahead because male athletes are competing in them then you're not as progressive as you like to think you are.

OverByYer · 21/12/2021 21:40

@QuestionNumberOne

I guess he’s only interested in acknowledging the reality of biological sex when it means he can benefit from using a woman’s body to carry a child for him to acquire.
This.

Imagine if a female swimmer sat poolside knitting`? She'd be accused of being an old spinster

Like, literally any woman?

I can think of about 42 off the top of my head. Many of them lesbians so double whammy. I am sorry your imagination is so poor.

DowningStreetParty · 21/12/2021 22:31

Lovely that he's being so inclusive and generous in giving away women's sport.Hmm

Juggins2 · 21/12/2021 22:33

I'm gender critical at heart but I can't get myself worked up by the use of surrogates. Why is it so offensive that gay men get to have babies too? If the surrogate woman signs up to help then I can't see the harm?

There are many threads discussing the ethics of surrogacy, to which I am vehemently opposed, but in this instance it’s the fact that Daley has full awareness of the stark biological differences between males and females when he is looking for a body to make him a baby to buy, but somehow is blind to those differences when it comes to preventing males competing in women’s sport.

Feminist objections to surrogacy are around the comodification of women's bodies and the damage done to babies when we deliberately bring them into the world with the specific intent of removing them from their birth mothers. That is an immensely damaging thing to do to a baby and the reason why commercial surrogacy is illegal in this country.

Not controversial or debatable. Illegal.
