On Monday there is an amendment being tabled in the House of Lords to the Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Bill which would stop men being held in women’s prisons.
Anyone on twitter please tweet #KeepProsonsSingleSex and #Amendment214 to show strength of feeling.

Not on Twitter, but they will always have my heartfelt gratitude and full support.

BettyFilous · 14/11/2021 15:52

This is brilliant news. It’s amazing what women can achieve when they organise collectively, but I’m always inspired by the leadership of the first brave women who stood up to be counted and rallied others around them in these campaigns. I will be watching tomorrow’s development’s closely.

SimpleHoardOfTruth · 14/11/2021 16:28

Will be watching and hoping. Thanks for the heads up.

MassiveHoard · 14/11/2021 16:58

Oh, let's hope this happens. Men do not belong in women's prisons.

MsGoodenough · 14/11/2021 17:07

This is great news. I hope it goes well. We'll done KPSS

Wonderful. Can only weep for women in Ireland who the chappies promoting this new religion (otherwise members of the Oireachtas) are locking up with male rapists and paedophiles. Or wannabe male rapists and paedophiles; maybe to give the lads best odds.

The courts and police are lying to women about males who are a danger to them. The state are also suppressing and censoring reporting about this issue, while trying to indoctrinate children with this anti-science in schools.

Delighted for British women, though. Britain has many times been a refuge for Irish women from Irish men and women hating ideologies. Whether fleeing being incarcerated (guilty of no crime and while the state looked on) in the Magdalen laundries if remaining in Ireland or the lack of abortion provision.

KittenKong · 14/11/2021 19:18

Thank god for the House of Lords. Mostly people who really don’t give a shiney about fads and bullies.

Shedbuilder · 14/11/2021 19:36

Done. And yes, I heard a politician saying we need to get rid of the House of Lords the other day and yelled 'Over my dead body' at the radio. This gender ideology issue, above all others, has proved what a mature second house that doesn't have to please voters is a vital element of democracy.

Gncq · 14/11/2021 21:15

Fingers and toes crossed that basic common sense prevails.

2319inprogress · 14/11/2021 21:22

Oh I'm hoping for some wonderful speeches that the news can show while most of the nation says "they put who in women's prisons??!!"

I am now very suspicious of my own word 'woman' when used in any political context. Those who argue without good faith will include Trans women without stating, though I know the Lords has some very good speakers on our behalf. I am upset that my word has now to be scrutinized in all contexts.

PaleBlueMoonlight · 15/11/2021 08:24

This is interesting. If the amendment isn't accepted (has the wording been published?) the government will give a reason why not. If it is being tabled today, then it will be discussed in committee at some point soon and a vote taken on whether to accept it. I don't know who is in the room for that vote, but it seems to me that this is something we should be lobbying MPs about.

KittenKong · 15/11/2021 08:29

Where can we keep up to date on this today?

looks like it's the last slot this afternoon: Legislation: Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Bill – committee stage (day 8)

KittenKong · 15/11/2021 08:36

Cool - ta

happydappy2 · 15/11/2021 08:36

It is unjustifiable that mens prisons are single sex yet womens prisons are mixed sex. Also what is happening in youth detention centres? Immigration centres?

FFS some womens prisons have Mother & Baby units-male offenders should not be anywhere near them.

Hi everyone,

Thanks for your support on this!

There is a letter to the editor published in the Telegraph today with an accompanying article. It's behind a paywall, which is irritating. But there are screenshots of letter and article here:

Judging by the quality of this letter in the Telegraph from Baroness Fox and other peers, this afternoons speeches will bring much needed clarity

I hope that at the very least it will be talked about and draw attention to what is going on.

It is one of the big structural problems with the Scottish Parliament that there is no revising chamber. This has meant very poor legislation is getting through and having to be overturned by the courts at great expense and risk to those putting forward the cases.
