On Monday there is an amendment being tabled in the House of Lords to the Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Bill which would stop men being held in women’s prisons.
Anyone on twitter please tweet #KeepProsonsSingleSex and #Amendment214 to show strength of feeling.

It's not complicated. Rapists don't go in women's prisons, no matter how much they want to.

nauticant · 15/11/2021 22:19

The sheer dishonesty of Lord Paddick: the stats show there are very few trans prisoners and this shows how law abiding they are + they are very susceptible to suicide.

2319inprogress · 15/11/2021 22:21

What about women's mental & physical health?! Angry

Isthatthebestyoucando · 15/11/2021 22:21

Suicide threats. Give them what they want then? FFS
Disgusted.

Yeah I know. They were all like it’s so complicated.

It’s fucking not

Men go into men’s prisons

Women go into women’s prisons

Stop being afraid to say it and pandering to the cultists

It's shocking, isn't it?

Out of 120 trans inmates, 60 are in there for sex offences. By my last reckoning the entire female prison population for sex offences was only 140.

So no, it's not a few, it's taken from an infinitesimal pool, and it's almost half many.

As an aside, I can't help thinking that this is a really long drawn out way of doing things. Surely, a backwards and forwards would be better.

Melroses · 15/11/2021 22:24

This is probably far more debate than prisons ever got in the original GRA debate. :(

The GRA cuts across everything.

littlbrowndog · 15/11/2021 22:25

Yeah Melrose. The hidden stuff

Datun · 15/11/2021 22:25

And I know, it's not tricky. It's bloody simple.

In order to protect women, create a third space.

There's no excuse, absolutely none.

It seems their only argument is, oh come on, it's not that many women who are going to be raped.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 15/11/2021 22:26

The sheer dishonesty of Lord Paddick: the stats show there are very few trans prisoners and this shows how law abiding they are

But this only applies to MTF trans people who are a) convicted criminals and b) sex offenders, or am I mistaken? So they aren't law abiding, this particular cohort of trans people and their law abiding brethren aren't relevant.

Melroses · 15/11/2021 22:28

I think it may only account for those without a GRC as the system does not see those who have a GRC, so who knows.....

Datun · 15/11/2021 22:29

They're hopelessly naive.

Either that or unforgivably sexist.

nauticant · 15/11/2021 22:30

Lord Falconer just made an interesting statement: he acknowledged that the problem is a conflict of rights between women's and those of transgender people.

Isthatthebestyoucando · 15/11/2021 22:30

It started off so well.

Apparently we should condemn female prisoners to be locked up with violent men because we must protect the menz

nauticant · 15/11/2021 22:31

Now it's the government response.

ArabellaScott · 15/11/2021 22:31

It seems their only argument is, oh come on, it's not that many women who are going to be raped.

Yep. And that even if they do, it's not fair to spoil the fun.

ArabellaScott · 15/11/2021 22:32

Is Lord Wolfson doing the govt response, nauticant?

ArabellaScott · 15/11/2021 22:33

@Melroses

Oh, god, what a bloody mess.
nauticant · 15/11/2021 22:33

The government response: the MoJ has new policies and these will mitigate risks to an acceptable level.

littlbrowndog · 15/11/2021 22:35

I can’t stay up. My early riser has gone even earlier. Hello 5 am. Long days. ☹️😴😴😴

nauticant · 15/11/2021 22:35

Yes, ArabellaScott it's Lord Wolfson of Tredegar, The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Justice (Conservative).

ArabellaScott · 15/11/2021 22:36

thanks. He doesn't seem to be very good.

ArabellaScott · 15/11/2021 22:37

expose them to greater gender? WTF is he even saying?

Datun · 15/11/2021 22:38

Dear God, is he really saying that because a transman might present a risk to the women, they should be put into a men's prison? He can't be saying that, can he?

Does he actually think they change sex???
