Jess Phillips says no constituent has ever raised this issue with her?

So Jess says, in this live debate, this is not an issue which is ever raised by her constituents.... I find that hard to believe 🤷🏼‍♀️

Any constituents on MN?

She may not have heard from constituents Hmm she certainly heard it on her web chat here. She even acknowledged that lots of people had asked about it

Do you believe transwomen are women and do you support self-ID?

Many of you have asked about the GRA and gender self ID.

Disingenuous at best, self serving liar at worst.

BoreOfWhabylon · 06/11/2021 13:44

Well, she'd probably dismiss anything raised in the webchat because, you know, viperz. Not worthy of respect, etc.

bellinisurge · 06/11/2021 14:11

Liar liar

Terfydactyl · 06/11/2021 15:40

@antoniawhite

Please, please don't vote Tory though because of this and because Labour are a mess. They have done so much damage, caused so many deaths and misery, and will cause more. There are other options.
What other options?
bellinisurge · 06/11/2021 17:13

Spoiling my ballot paper (like last time) remains the only option

KimikosNightmare · 06/11/2021 19:56

@bellinisurge

Liar liar
Oops. That's bad.

I initially thought you, general you, were being a bit unfair on her as it looked as if she knew of Professor Stock but didn't remember her first name- fair enough if one wasn't familiar with Prof Stock's work. But she clearly is more than familiar with it.

@Skysblue

Something I’ve been pondering is this.

MPs are only allowed to respond to their own constituents. For this reason, if your write to an MP, you are supposed to put your name and address in the letter, so they can check that you are their constituent.

But, it is not safe for anyone - but especially for a woman - to raise concerns about trans ideology. Women who do so are targeted with hate campaigns from aggressive nutters who bombsrd them with pornography, threaten sexual violence and try to get them fired. This has now happened to many women.

I am scared to put my name to a letter about protecting women’s rights when I don’t know where it will end up. MPs have previously quoted their constituents by full name.

But if I don’t put my name to a letter, the MP is supposed to ignore it. They are told to ignore anonymous letters.

What to do, what to do…

I've put my name to letters to my MP but reminded her that this is a sensitive issue which woman in particular are receiving abuse and threats and losing their jobs and facing arrest for talking about, so asking her to be mindful of that for her sake and mine when raising issues or responding to me and asking her to maintain GDPR etc.
merrymouse · 06/11/2021 22:07

She is shadow minister for domestic violence and safeguarding.

Even if she can’t remember letters from constituents, surely this is relevant to her job?

SnoopyLights · 06/11/2021 22:08

Also, since we cannot write to other MP's, what I've done is make up some postcards (blank, plain white) with stickers from Birdy Rose and sent them to my MP, but asking her to send them on my behalf to other MP's in our area and to others in her party asking her to make my points to them by using them. I think that's allowed. She can contact other MP's and not be dismissed in the way I would be if I wrote to them.

I've tried to match up stickers and write a point relating to them on the postcards - for example Birdy Rose has stickers saying "Puberty is not a medical condition" and I've matched that with "Thank you Keira Bell" on a postcard and written my concerns about so-called puberty blockers and the harm they actually do.

ScreamingBeans · 06/11/2021 22:09

Even if no constituents had ever raised it with her, does that mean it's OK to ignore this fundamental issue of women's human rights?

If no one had ever raised the topics of climate change, domestic violence, rape conviction rates, housing, etc., would she not talk about those issues?

She is one of those women who wants to be lauded as a free-thinking feminist, without actually doing any of the free-thinking. Or the feminism. She will come out as gender critical only when it is completely safe to do so and she calculates that it will have no negative impact on her career.

Compare and contrast with Rosie Duffield.

RepentMotherfucker · 06/11/2021 22:31

@rabbitwoman

It is clear what keir starmer thinks regarding this issue.

'It should not be said that only women have cervixes.' - that's a very clear position. He will introduce self ID, it will be on the next labour manifesto. That's a very clear position. Its clear what a lot of high profile labour politicians think - David lammy et Al have made their position clear.

Ones that don't tow the line suffer, very publicly.

Certainly, jess has a strong view about this because she will know all about it. But what is interesting is that she is being cagey about exactly what that is. She won't explicitly state one view or another, she just uses this avoidance technique of pretending she doesn't know about it and it does not matter.

Cowardly. If she supports her leader and his allies, say so. If she supports Rosie Duffield, say so. But look at how this politician, who prides herself on being outspoken, opinionated, silences herself.

This.

X1000

Plain speaking Jess. Out there speaking forthrightly, but saying nowt.

If courage speaks to courage I guess bullying speaks to cowardice.

bellinisurge · 07/11/2021 09:02

She's a coward. And I had such high hopes for her.

highame · 07/11/2021 09:24

Can she be written to as a Shadow Secretary of State. Secretary of States can be written to as can chairs of select committees, so I don't see why she can't be approached as Shadow Minister for DV & Safeguarding. Parliament, Westminster, London SW1A 0AA.

HatefulHaberdashery · 07/11/2021 10:30

@norma27, contact Jo Bartosch - she writes a lot of articles on GC issues and has bylines in the Telegraph, the Critic and Unherd, amongst others.

We need to start shedding more light on MP's lies, tbh.

And yes, Jess's cowardice makes her brand of "feminism" hard to stomach. If more Women stood up like Rosie Duffield, Keir Starmer would at least be forced to move to the centre on this or at least have a debate on this within Labour.

Silence is complicity, when you watch other female Labour councillors face disciplinary, watch Marsha De Cordova lose her job because of Bonewall, watch the full "chilling effect" take firm root in the party.

A Posie Parker article in the Speccie worth a read. I am on the left but I subscribe to the Spectator so that I can link articles of interest - I feel I have to justify because otherwise I will be labelled as a right wing fanatic Grin

Fuck me.

Call. It. Out.

Nice work posie HaloStar

My subscription is a legacy of James (?)Kirkrup and a time when, not so long ago, very few news outlets would cover this topic. Although I hate that anyone should have to justify why they read a certain publication.

Anyway, I disagree with Posie about JP having PM potential if she could just stop throwing women under the bus but it's good to have her lies called out.

Also checkout the comments, there is a very interesting contributor there, I'm getting a Jackie Tran vibe! They are so concerned about PP's transphobia they totally missed their own homophobia!

Ohmygodyesthatsit · 09/11/2021 20:21

God jp has no potential to be pm she really isnt bright enough, its obviouwhen she is questioned about anything more deeply.

PrincessNutella · 09/11/2021 21:02

100 percent don't believe her.
