Labour councillor reveals she suffered 'transphobic abuse' at party conference

And where did Patricia Hannah-Wood, a trans woman, suffer this "abuse"?

In the loos, apparently. The women's loos, I assume.

I wonder what the nature of this alleged abuse is? A woman expressing her discomfort with having to share a female-only space with a male-bodied person?

But as we have been told, there is no conflict between women's rights and trans rights, so...

I'd also be curious to know the details. Funny how often they're left out and considering how often I've seen baseless accusations on this subject, I think we need to know exactly what was said.

Someone probably mentioned a cervix.

AlfonsoTheDinosaur · 28/09/2021 19:33

I wonder if someone said "this is the ladies' loo" to the councillor in question.

Sittinginthesand · 28/09/2021 19:41

I turned the radio on halfway through Patricia’s. It was confusing to say the least as joining after what I presume was an introduction explaining, and with not picture to show that P was wearing stereotypical women’s stuff all I heard was a man’s voice, complaining about being subjected to abuse in the women’s loos.

Whitefire · 28/09/2021 19:43

I am always interested to know what the actual abuse was. The bar for harm and abuse is so low that it has now become a bit like the boy who cried wolf.

cheeseismydownfall · 28/09/2021 19:44

I wonder, on a scale of 1 to 10 - what was the level of abuse that this Councillor received, compared to that which Rosie Duffield has received?

Fans of the play This House will be familiar with 70s Labour whip Walter Harrison, who was not above following an MP thinking of not voting the party line into the HoC loos, grabbing them by the delicate regions, asking if he could count on their support.

Those were the days.

“I was transphobically abused by one of our sisters in this conference hall now”. Sounds like a denouncement from the original Pendle Witch Trials.
Of course, there are no more important things going on in Pendle that one could use one’s conference platform to highlight, are there? Hmm

ditalini · 28/09/2021 19:50

I would like to see Patricia on all platforms telling us in minute detail about the abuse.

More Patricia please. Radio, TV, primetime news telling us all about what happened to Patricia in the woman's toilets.

WinterTrees · 28/09/2021 19:50

I also heard this reported on R4 this evening, with the person in question relating that they were abused in the loos, where they had gone with their 'sisters' (or something - sisterhood was definitely mentioned.)

The radio shone a very bright light on the elephant, without it needing to be directly mentioned.

cheeseismydownfall · 28/09/2021 19:50

How very presumptive of Patricia, assuming this person's gender identity. What if this person is non binary? Sounds a bit transphobic to me.

OMFG Patricia Hannah-Wood is actually from Pendle!!

I wonder if Patricia is identifying as a witch?

Theeyeballsinthesky · 28/09/2021 19:57

I think the world needs to hear far more from Patricia & how they are a woman

Whatsnewpussyhat · 28/09/2021 20:02

How convenient.

In the loos? No witnesses?
No record of what was actually said or who said. ..

Coyoacan · 28/09/2021 20:06

I just googled and as I belong to a generation where men wear long hair...

Saucery · 28/09/2021 20:06

Gets everyone looking round at each other at the conference, doesn’t it? Fingers pointing, whispering behind backs about who said whatever was said……..

WomaninBoots · 28/09/2021 20:09

I wouldn't even be surprised at this point if the Labour Party conference ended in a couple of witch burnings.

Sonarl · 28/09/2021 20:10

I think Rosie and the poor lady that got booed for supporting her earlier today at the conference have been getting entirely too much attention today for a certain narcissist .....

Things is, it's so tricky to know what was involved. I have instinctive empathy for anyone who is the target of abuse and yet recent 'hate crimes' involve a leaflet in a public facility and the notorious ribbon.

When some terms are so routinely debased in some discussions it can conceal horrific abuse or add to the semantic degradation of the meaning of the word 'abuse'.

1Endeavour2 · 28/09/2021 20:14

Surely illegal for Patricia to be in there anyway?

ArabellaScott · 28/09/2021 20:15

This story should be shared on every news channel, right now. Patricia should be on Women's Hour tomorrow, telling the story in far more detail.

SpindleWorld · 28/09/2021 20:16

So, many transwomen have come on to MN to say that they've been going in women's bogs for 20 years and they've never been challenged so there's obviously no problem with transwomen using women's spaces so we should crack on with the changes to the law around self-ID.

A transwoman goes into a women's bog and is challenged because actually they don't 'pass' and made a woman uncomfortable - and it's transphobic abuse?

Right ...

If PHW were one of these, it would be rather jolly:
