Labour councillor reveals she suffered 'transphobic abuse' at party conference

And where did Patricia Hannah-Wood, a trans woman, suffer this "abuse"?

In the loos, apparently. The women's loos, I assume.

I wonder what the nature of this alleged abuse is? A woman expressing her discomfort with having to share a female-only space with a male-bodied person?

But as we have been told, there is no conflict between women's rights and trans rights, so...

I would place folding money on PWH being told "this is the ladies' loo".

I still wonder if PWH spotted somebody placing a leaflet for Labour Women's Declaration.

Twitter has apparently deemed this as “potentially sensitive content” HmmGrin

Respecting women and girls' privacy is transphobic.

Yeah it's just 'saying no to males' now isn't it?

The End. The conference has achieved it.

I'm claiming this. Stickers, leaflets - I'm not going to be a stickler for the precise form of paper involved. Grin

Words have no meaning: e.g., transphobic and abuse . It's politically expedient and convenient for some people to collude in this and overlook its implications for moving us towards a profoundly anti-democratic authoritarian future.

Just what do these self-proclaimed politicians think is going on in our contemporary world?

Is that a real sign? setting aside the bizareness of it being necessary, if it is real that is refreshing, no-nonsense, women-centred, and entirely reasonable sign.

Whitefire · 29/09/2021 15:07

Oh the horror.

In seriousness though, no one actually gives a shit about women and girls.

ArtemesiaK · 29/09/2021 15:15

Just shown the video to my DH. We're totally baffled that people in the labour party want to support the likes of "them" over the rights of women like their mums and daughters...

Sadly I think it's a sticker.

Megacervixosaurus · 29/09/2021 15:20

It’s a sticker, looks like one of the variety sold on the Adult Human Female online store. I don’t go anywhere without carrying a few with me.

Whinginadeville · 29/09/2021 15:21

Flowers for the brave woman who stood up for our right to private spaces at the Labour Party Conference no less. Even if she's imaginary I'd still like to imagine her. Stunning and brave.

Artichokeleaves · 29/09/2021 15:28

Truly.

Speaking out for the inclusion of marginalised women in .... women's spaces. Flowers

These days this really is brave.

Flowers Yes. Everywoman.

Scooter Girl knows who the sticker-stucker is?

Could have been anyone in the building: A journo, lobbyist, cleaner etc.

@Jaysmith71

Fans of the play This House will be familiar with 70s Labour whip Walter Harrison, who was not above following an MP thinking of not voting the party line into the HoC loos, grabbing them by the delicate regions, asking if he could count on their support.

Those were the days.

Fantastic play - highly recommend it to anyone...
vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 29/09/2021 16:43

Ah, so, a woman stickered an area which is allowed to be a single sex space as per the exemptions of the 2010 equality act, and the incumbent of Pendle spotted this when they tried to use the facilities, and felt abused by the sticker.

Thank goodness there wasn't a ribbon. Those things are dangerous.

2old4thissite · 29/09/2021 16:56

Who upon seeing PWH looking and talking like that would not immediately think they were a man in the wrong toilets?
And an aggressive one at that.
OTOH it is entirely possible that someone objected to PWH attitude which, if it's like that clip was angry and pushy, trying to get a mobility scooter into a standard toilet rather than them being trans as such!

2old4thissite · 29/09/2021 17:02

Worth watching for the very verbose scottish/American pansexual following too!!
I don't think I'm stupid but WTH was she on about?
And the over-enthusiastic applauding of them both.
She got a cheer just for announcing her sexual preferences ffs!
These clips are very eye-opening.

Because of the sheer physicality of the menace, I keep thinking I saw Tom Bell in this role but it was Philip Glenister.

NecessaryScene · 29/09/2021 17:14

I think it's probably safe to assume - given the lack of any real detail - that if the "transphobic abuse" was not merely the presence of sticker, it was just a women challenging this obvious male in the women's toilets.

So is the Labour party's view that women cannot challenge men in women's toilets at all, in case they turn out to be "transwomen", in which case the challenge would be deemed to be "transphobic"?

There's no way to distinguish men from transwomen like Patricia by sight, so it's illogical to call a challenge "transphobic" - they were challenged for being male, not trans.

If Labour really think men cannot be challenged, then say it explicitly.

Journalists - press them on this.

That's pretty much what I said, and had my post deleted. Funny that.

Funny how ribbons and stickers are so terrifying isn't it ...

That would effectively mean that we would have the men's toilets for male people who identify as men, and the women's toilets for male people who identify as women. However female people can also use the women's toilets so long as they're quiet, don't bother anyone and if they're sufficiently privileged to be able to go into a mixed sex space.

Nothing for mere females, obvs.
