Labour councillor reveals she suffered 'transphobic abuse' at party conference

And where did Patricia Hannah-Wood, a trans woman, suffer this "abuse"?

In the loos, apparently. The women's loos, I assume.

I wonder what the nature of this alleged abuse is? A woman expressing her discomfort with having to share a female-only space with a male-bodied person?

But as we have been told, there is no conflict between women's rights and trans rights, so...

Could Labour do anything more to completely implode? The conservatives are not going to have to spend any money on election campaigning as no one is going to vote the joke that the Labour party is.

And I’ve voted Labour since 1997. And until they recognise women’s rights they have lost my vote.

Changemusthappen · 28/09/2021 20:24

I agree Arabella and I hope that all the newspapers are picking this story up and making it front page news tomorrow. This is a massive week for the Labour party and I think everyone in the UK needs to see this.

We definitely need to see and understand much much more detail about what happened here. We need pictures of Patricia, lots of pictures.

ArabellaScott · 28/09/2021 20:34

Hopefully this clip is at the correct time stamp:

( from around -5.16)

FreeBritnee · 28/09/2021 20:35

@AlfonsoTheDinosaur

I wonder if someone said "this is the ladies' loo" to the councillor in question.
Exactly my thinking. Or perhaps walked out the toilet and recoiled momentarily.

Labour councillor reveals she suffered 'transphobic abuse' at party conference
CharlieParley · 28/09/2021 20:43

This reminds me of one of those conferences where oppression Olympics and privilege pummeling trumped their safe spaces and super supportive policies and they descended into accusing each other of all sorts of "literal violence" caused by the minutest infractions.

Also, if male transgender people are not safe in women's spaces after all, might now be a good time to suggest third spaces again?

theThreeofWeevils · 28/09/2021 20:44

In the loos? No witnesses?
No record of what was actually said or who said

That would be a bit odd, really, the lack of witnesses since I am sure I heard Patricia say that Patricia had gone to the bogs with some of Patricia's colleagues from the North West.

Mollyollydolly · 28/09/2021 20:44

Oh this story needs to be everywhere, with details of what happened and photos.

Mollyollydolly · 28/09/2021 20:46

Didn't know Sweet were making a comeback.

NiceGerbil · 28/09/2021 20:53

Apparently loads of witnesses as says they were in the ladies with a bunch of colleagues.

I know women are well known for going on pairs or small groups in pubs and nightclubs.

I've never gone in a gang at a work conference though :/

Anyway yes lots of witnesses so imagine they'll be speaking up soon.

somethinginoffensive · 28/09/2021 20:54

I am just watching the clip of PHW, followed by a woman talking garbled nonsense.

It's actually quite eye opening.

EmbarrassingAdmissions · 28/09/2021 20:56

@Mollyollydolly

Didn't know Sweet were making a comeback.
I'm so incompetent at this sort of thing, Ballroom Blitz ?

Yes, it runs onto the pansex woman making some ... startling points.
Thelikelylass · 28/09/2021 21:01

This is madness, isn't it? Case after case after case of men who decide to call themselves a woman's name, look like men and then go into a women's' safe space and don't expect to be challenged. If I was in the bathroom and this person walked in damn right I would want to know why he was in the women's loo as there is nothing in his appearance on that photograph that would even make me think this is a woman. Challenging someone would be perfectly reasonable, not fucking transphobic. Stupid twats, this makes me even more determined to fight for our rights now.

Changemusthappen · 28/09/2021 21:05

Gosh thanks for that clip Arabella. I call for Patricia for Labour Party leader!

Name12341 · 28/09/2021 21:05

Interesting how aggressive and self assured the speaker is. Almost as if that person grew up being socialised as a male. Hmm
Very similar in tone to a 'boris Johnson speech'.

SpindleWorld · 28/09/2021 21:11

Challenge = transphobic witches!

Don't challenge = there, you see, there's no problem, we're all coming in now, move over.

Deliriumoftheendless · 28/09/2021 21:16

“ I was in the loo downstairs with a few of my colleagues”

Is the direct quote from the article, so yes, more than one witness who will be able to provide details.

Wrongsideofhistorymyarse · 28/09/2021 21:17

I now have Ballroom Blitz as an earworm.

Jaysmith71 · 28/09/2021 21:18

Odd choice of vocabulary: Was in the loo with collegaues and was abused by a sister.

I assume that's calling out a fellow member of the sisterhood. Odd thing is, you can be a brother and have sisters.

Jaysmith71 · 28/09/2021 21:22

...also, person who needs a mobility scooter to get onto the platform will surely use the disabled loos, where you get the whole place to yourself???

Certainly wouldn't be able to reverse that thing into a cubicle.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 28/09/2021 21:23

At the very start of their speech they mention how LGBT and BAME people face particularly high levels of abuse. They seem to have missed out another group that suffers very frequent abuse and murder...

DavidRosesJumpers · 28/09/2021 21:34

They seem to have missed out another group that suffers very frequent abuse and murder...
Absolutely. Its fucking madness. Crazy woke stupidity.

Jaysmith71 · 28/09/2021 21:36

The disabled also get a rough deal, but scooter-girl seems not to identify with them either.
