Labour councillor reveals she suffered 'transphobic abuse' at party conference

And where did Patricia Hannah-Wood, a trans woman, suffer this "abuse"?

In the loos, apparently. The women's loos, I assume.

I wonder what the nature of this alleged abuse is? A woman expressing her discomfort with having to share a female-only space with a male-bodied person?

But as we have been told, there is no conflict between women's rights and trans rights, so...

Does anyone know what time this was on radio 4 tonight please?

TheBlackDarner · 28/09/2021 23:45

@NiceGerbil

Having watched the video clip.

I find it even more unlikely that a report would not have been made.

I spent many years at Labour Conference, I agree. The speaker, for some reason, reminds me of Michael Foot. More in countenance, than speech, perhaps?
BaronMunchausen · 28/09/2021 23:46

@Thelikelylass

This is madness, isn't it? Case after case after case of men who decide to call themselves a woman's name, look like men and then go into a women's' safe space and don't expect to be challenged. If I was in the bathroom and this person walked in damn right I would want to know why he was in the women's loo as there is nothing in his appearance on that photograph that would even make me think this is a woman. Challenging someone would be perfectly reasonable, not fucking transphobic. Stupid twats, this makes me even more determined to fight for our rights now.
If this 'abuse' was a woman challenging someone who presented as a man, then the follow-up must include clear guidance from Labour as to when and how women can challenge men in their safe spaces.
NiceGerbil · 28/09/2021 23:53

The incident would have been reported. the individual disciplined/ chucked out of party.

There were multiple witnesses.

As for challenging. No way will they give guidance!

The approach they would take I think would be the general one women are being pushed to follow.

Assume they are in the right place.
Be kind.
Any indication you feel uncomfortable etc is a microaggression.
If a crime is committed then it can be reported.

Cailleach1 · 29/09/2021 00:06

I think it is evident that these super misogynists progressives think women shouldn't be allowed to challenge men in putative single sex, (female) spaces any more?

Can you look into a man's soul and know he does not 'identify' as a woman? That is the test of a woman now. Allegedly.

CinnamonMagic · 29/09/2021 00:55

I haven't seen that part of the video yet because I didn't see a way to get negative numbers on the video linked, mine started at 0. So I went to 5 hours 16 into it an saw female speakers supporting an emergency motion about violence against women and girls, with one being very clear that sex matters and supporting the MP who has been getting the abuse.

Which was reassuring as a member seriously considering leaving the party over this issue, if not what I was looking for, I'll try again.

NiceGerbil · 29/09/2021 01:15

Yes that is what is to happen.

If there is a crime you can report.

This of course ignores:

  • That there are squillions of creepy /nasty blokes about who enjoy making women/ girls feel. Scared, sexually threatened, humiliated, unsettled, etc. And stay on the right side of the law.
  • That most crimes against women and girls committed by creepy or violent etc blokes are not reported. In fact hardly any are.
  • that if they are reported the most likely outcome is essentially there will be no consequences for the bloke who did it.

These points are all totally ignored of course.

WiSpa - lies, hoax. Or, girl shouldn't look at or give away that have noticed cock. Not the women. Plus an argument growing in popularity. What's so scary about a penis anyway? It's just a bit of skin.

Essentially we must put up and shut up. Or stop using the facilities.

The goal is to redefine or ban all words that describe the female population as a group.

And to remove any and all things that were up until a few years ago for women. Whether it's sport, awards, prisons or places we are getting our kit off or using the bog.

Oh the other argument is that labels don't stop men who want to rape women/ girls. Lil OJ retweeted a thread about this recently. The comments are all people laughing at how stupid women are to imagine that if a man wants to rape us, that anything including anything single sex will stop him. Hahaha women and girls are prey , the end, nothing they can do. Fucking arseholes. Laughing.

CinnamonMagic · 29/09/2021 01:16

I think the timings nhave changed to plus ones since the stream became a regular on demand video.

I wasn't able to find the speaker mentioned by scrubbing through as it covers such a long time period with many many speakers.

Special mention to the woman trying to stand up for Afghan refugees whilst being upstaged by her baby at 5 hours :27 though!

Rhannion · 29/09/2021 01:26

@Changemusthappen

Gosh thanks for that clip Arabella. I call for Patricia for Labour Party leader!
I think I must be a wicked person but 😂
Rhannion · 29/09/2021 01:30

Sorry , not sorry but that clip reminds me of Phoenix Nights.

2 hours 37 for the speaker mentioned.

We don't know the details of the alleged abuse and it may well have been someone being verbally abusive. But if I had heard that speakers' voice in the women's toilets whilst I was in a cubicle, I would have assumed someone was in the wrong loos and might have said so (or stayed quietly in my stall until they left Blush hoping there was an innocent explanation ).

NiceGerbil · 29/09/2021 01:47

They see indecent exposure as trivial and not worth bothering with full stop.

Good example- Sarah everard murder history of it including s couple of days before he killed her.

UniversalAunt · 29/09/2021 02:27

I can hear the raucous laughter in Tory HQ from here.

ButterflyAway · 29/09/2021 08:35

A labour conference goers love a good shit slinging, and if they can’t find anything to sling shit about they’re quite happy to make up stories to kick things off

ButterflyAway · 29/09/2021 08:36

Should have said *ahh labour conference goers

I’ll also add, it’s not just labour conference goers that love a good shit slinging, it’s all political conference goers. Labour just takes the biscuit this week!

SpindleWorld · 29/09/2021 08:55

What on earth was my post from 01.35 deleted?

I'll rephrase it.

I shall be talking to my Police and Crime Commissioner about their policy on charging and prosecuting over certain crimes, and asking where they think the fault-lines may lie.

Also, and I've asked this on another thread, what happened to the Harry Miller appeal against the College of Policing about the 'non crime hate incidents'?

This made me laugh

( from around -5.16)".

My version of YouTube gives timings from the start of the video. The contribution of the councillor who is the subject of this thread starts at 2:38:10 (that is 2 hours 38 minutes 10 seconds after the start of the video). The speech lasts about 5 minutes.

I presume that "-5.16" means 5 hours 16 minutes before the end of the video because the video's total duration is 7 hours 55 minutes 29 seconds.

WhoNeedsaManOfTheWorld · 29/09/2021 10:34

The clip is difficulty to find as more has been added
It's such a shame it can't be isolated as it demonstrates so well the issue of women's rights vs trans rights.
I'm feeling pretty low about it just now. I feel like we've lost our rights totally. Our rights to group as women and decide what we need are all undermined once males are included

SD1978 · 29/09/2021 10:36

So whilst in a group, in a toilet, was allegedly abused. Uhuh. And scant in details, maybe because it needs more unicorns, as it never happened.

EmbarrassingAdmissions · 29/09/2021 10:39

This link should bring you to the right timestamp:

Eyesofdisarray · 29/09/2021 10:40

Elephant in the Room??????

WhoNeedsaManOfTheWorld · 29/09/2021 10:40

I would bet my life savings (tbf not much) that if it had happened the TW making the accusation would have shouted loudly, named the women, had the woman evicted, called the police- no waiting there 5 would have turned up, had them expelled from the LP and/or sent for re-education

Suzysunflower · 29/09/2021 13:49

Gosh I have no words. This is, literally, taking away our voice.

According to which criteria should this person be considered a woman?

The attitude, the aggression, this is somebody who communicates like a male and has been socialised as a male.
