Wish I knew which rights I was 'hoarding'.

Did anyone listen to Lammy on LBC this morning? Did he say that transwomen can grow/get a cervix?

Thelnebriati · 29/09/2021 09:11

''A kinder, gentler politics''.

Transwomen don't have ovaries but they can get a cervix following procedures and hormone treatment David Lammy this morning on LBC

OvaHere · 29/09/2021 09:18

@7H9g5Kj

Nick Robinson pushing him but he refuses to engage and is coming across like a tantrumming toddler. Shouting that it doesn’t come up on the doorstep. Just you wait Lammy. We women have been afraid to speak about it up until now (because people on your side try to get us fired from our jobs) but now the floodgates have opened. Twat.
This just isn't true. We have threads here going back several years full of women who have raised it on the doorstep.

I raised it on the doorstep in 2019. Not with Labour mind because I haven't seen one of their canvassers for years but I told the Tory candidate who went on to win the seat and it was the start of numerous exchanges I've had with him on this subject.

@Artichokeleaves

Why do interviewers just let these lies roll?

Pretty much every woman on FWR knows these statistics are false flags, its basic knowledge, why are paid researchers and interviewers apparently so bloody clueless?

Does anyone, anywhere in this media/politics bubble actually have any basic competence? I'm increasingly thinking you could form a quick coalition of our local lollipop lady, the guy that runs the greengrocers, a member of staff from the village hall toddler group and someone from the tills at Tesco and we'd see a staggering shift in intellect, competence and basic ability to run a country while in possession of a brain.

The problem is that the local lollipop lady, the grocer, the toddler group leader don't join political parties because they just don't have the spare time.

And generally, they are probably over-committed everywhere else. That toddler group leader probably runs Brownies; the grocer is probably involved in Rotary; the lollipop lady may very well run an elderly neighbour check.

This is the issue. In a community area, it's generally the same people that do bloody everything. In areas where there is no real community, it just becomes about dropping in political bods from elsewhere, who don't understand the area and don't really care about the people.

We need the community folk to get into government by standing for election, but I don't blame them that they don't. It's not pleasant, and it's very stressful and costs a decent amount of time and cash to run a campaign.

bellinisurge · 29/09/2021 09:26

I will be continuing to raise this on the doorstep or digital equivalent.
Have a colleague who used to be a Labour activist (held elected office in local government). They said there constituency Labour Party was unbearable at the moment where No Debate or the usual unseeing nonsense is rife. They are normally a loyal progressive and active Labour member. If Labour is losing people like this, what chance does it have with "ordinary" voters.
Whining that journalists are clogging up airtime by not allowing Labour politicians to talk about the stuff they want to talk about - not a good look, Mr Lammy. Very Donald Trump.

KittenKong · 29/09/2021 09:29

How did the Labour Party go from ‘the working man’ to this? I know that chasing the student /yoof vote is seen as the be all and end all but come on... even the kids don’t believe half the stuff they are arguing.

zanahoria · 29/09/2021 09:30

He throws abuse at women who complain about this issue them blames them for even bringing the subject up when they respond?

bellinisurge · 29/09/2021 09:36

Arguing about membership of the EU used to be a niche issue that "nobody brought up on the doorstep".

Eyesofdisarray · 29/09/2021 09:43

Men can grow a cervix? How?
Although DH has had good results with his peppers and tomatoes this year
Don't be silly Lammy. Why aren't these people challenged when they spout guff like this?
Should do the job they're paid to do as Helen Joyce put it

KittenKong · 29/09/2021 09:43

If they can grow a human ear on a mouse...

TheMissingMango · 29/09/2021 09:45

OMG, David Lammy got VERY angry at Rachel Burden on BBC 5 Live this morning when she brought up the dinosaur comment. How dare a body with a vagina not let him talk about what he wants to talk about!

Breakfast show, about 1h50m into the show.

That’s a lie. I have spoken to my Labour MP about this on the doorstep and local Labour councillors out canvassing in last year’s election.
Thelnebriati · 29/09/2021 09:49

So did I and they got very angry about it.

OvaHere · 29/09/2021 09:56

Here's the clip. He doesn't have a clue. Does he even understand the functions of a cervix?

Religious patriarchs are going to resort to their right to shout absolutist statements when challenged by women or hoarding dragons.
Jaysmith71 · 29/09/2021 10:04

....They can get a cervix????

Where from? Waitrose?

CriticalCondition · 29/09/2021 10:05

On Woman's Hour now!

OvaHere · 29/09/2021 10:08

@Jaysmith71

I think it's magic or wizardry. Maybe this is why they're all upset with JK, perhaps they think she is the one hoarding the magic cervix dust.
EsmaCannonball · 29/09/2021 10:14

How can men speak so confidently on issues where they are so absolutely fucking thick? I wish interviewers would press them on these views. Helen Joyce or Julie Bindel would not allow David Lammy to simply assert that men can grow or get cervixes.

goinggently · 29/09/2021 10:15

Oh those selfish women with too many rights.... Angry

I hope the Labour Party enjoys its erasure...

I wonder if he would say the same if anyone announced that anyone fighting for race issues was a nasty old dinosaur?
ScribblingPixie · 29/09/2021 10:30

I brought it up on the doorstep before the last election (neighbouring borough to Lammy) & the Labour canvasser literally backed away and refused to engage.

EmbarrassingAdmissions · 29/09/2021 10:58

When are the MSM going to be reprimanded for allowing their platforms to be used to disseminate such disinformation (misinformation at best)?

Does... does David Lammy think the cervix is just the top end of the vagina? (And presumably that the vagina is simply a conveniently dick sized void). I thought he went to a good school?

Oh how I wish I had the power to help men experience what a dilating cervix feels like.
