"Feminism is the radical notion that [persons] are people."

[People] are afraid that [people] will laugh at them.
[People] are afraid that [people] will kill them.

  • Margaret Atwood

[People] are guilty in 99% of all rapes. While [people] only in 1%. As the same time [people] aer in 85% victims of rape by [people].
This means we need have safeguarding, to protect [people] from [people]. Especially [people] are at bigger risk.

It’s only about 100 years ago that people won the hard fought right to vote

Helleofabore · 23/09/2021 14:14

JCJ really has a way with words.

Ghostsintheshelf · 23/09/2021 14:25

The Labour Party has never elected a [person] as leader.

Jaysmith71 · 23/09/2021 14:35

@beastlyslumber

This might be the worst thing I've ever seen.
There was that time a US reporter addressed Nelson Mandela "as an African-American yourself."

But this is how language changes, not through edicts but through usage. Push back. Smother it in its cot before it can climb out.

MattDamon · 23/09/2021 14:38

@WeeBisom

This is the “all lives matter” style of feminism I see.
Nailed it.

And yes, this screams Chase/Kate Strangio's influence.

BlaydonRaces · 23/09/2021 15:01

In a similar vein, check out this tweet from New Statesman which confusingly uses both 'pregnant people' and 'pregnant women'. The actual article is even worse and uses them interchangeably all the way through

When I saw this yesterday I stormed around the house, just seething that they would dare to rewrite, nay, ERASE, the words of one of the greatest minds of this century. Like most women in the left and (and many even center) in the US, I'm a massive fan of RGB. To think some little Twitter twit at the ACLU felt they could disrespect the late Ruth Bader Ginsberg like this just sent me into a complete rage.

I remember watching Posie Parker's video when she is so visibly angry at Daniel Radcliffe for showing disrespect towards JKRowling. RGB is a national treasure in my country and I feel just like Posie did that day.

MrsTerryPratchett · 23/09/2021 15:30

They waited until she was dead though, didn't they? Because none of them would have dared do that while she was alive.

If sex isn't real, then women's rights aren't an issue. You can discriminate against biological processes, and of course pregnancy is the huge one, with impunity because it 'happens to everyone'.

Delphinium20 · 23/09/2021 15:34

@Clymene

I hope RGB haunts Strangio
Thank you. I needed a laugh. Thanks
Thelnebriati · 23/09/2021 16:01

''dead editing'' doesn't really roll off the tongue but you know what I mean.

JellySlice · 23/09/2021 16:29

@PrincessNutella

Now that I have been educated, I know I will never be transphobic enough to say "trans woman" again. The correct term is "trans [person]."

JellySlice · 23/09/2021 16:33

Though TBH MN is virtually only place I use 'trans[person]'. And that is only because I am forced to by trans[persons] or their allies , who have any posts deleted that use terminology which mentions their actual sex and their sense of identity.

TheWeeDonkey · 23/09/2021 16:40

@KnittingAddict was that Blocked and Reported? I enjoyed listening to them too, a bit 😕 on some of their views but always interesting until I listened to them discussing paedophiles last week and the week before and I can't listen to them after that.

TheWeeDonkey · 23/09/2021 16:45

It is disgusting, the woman has been dead a year and not only are her words being erased but everything she fought for is being erased too.

Absolute scum

Cailleach1 · 23/09/2021 17:03

So Ed Davey was utterly transphobic when he said that Trans Women are Women. He should have said Trans People are People. He didn't mean to try to bring everything around to Boris Johnson, he meant to bring it around to people. Lisa Nandy needs to be corrected too. These outdated people need to be re-educated.

Cailleach1 · 23/09/2021 17:04

Sorry, it is Trans persons are persons. All persons are persons.

Jaysmith71 · 23/09/2021 17:51

It has made Murdoch's NY Post

nypost.com/2021/09/23/aclu-botches-twitter-tribute-to-rbg/

But the Times with so much more acreage of newsprint to fill, remains uninterested.

The Times is primarily a U.K. publication with limited space for all world news. It's got this today though.

Jaysmith71 · 23/09/2021 18:04

I think you know what I mean. In the USA, The Times is universally understood to be the NY Times.

They do get The Times (of London) wrong and mistakenly call it The London Times, because they have city newspapers rather than a national press.

ErrolTheDragon · 23/09/2021 18:20

Oh - sorry, no I didn't realise what you meant, as The Times is also owned by Murdoch (though editorially independent) I thought that's what you meant. I forgot the NYT gets called 'the Times' by Americans.

I get some emailed selections from the NYT and I seem to remember reading a piece very critical of the shoddy way the Texas bill was pushed through... which remarkably managed to avoid using the word 'women' once except in a quote. Hmm so yes, sounds par for the course they'd ignore this.

No, he was fine. The word woman is only verboten when talking about issues connected to female biology.
littlbrowndog · 23/09/2021 18:29

What do the taliban and ACLU have in common ?

No, it was Worst Year Ever. Started as a bit of aa anti Trump podcast during the election year and is still continuing as a left leaning podcast. I've really enjoyed some of their stuff and they seem like decent people, but maybe too ready to take on "woke" ideology, without question.

I don't like the woke term, but don't know how else to describe it.

What was *Blocked and Reported's take on paedophiles?

bigkidsdidit · 23/09/2021 18:39

The B&R paedophile episodes were terrible. Really poor analysis. And I’m a subscriber - I like them.

Anyway, derail.

bigkidsdidit · 23/09/2021 18:40

Sorry - I didn’t mean that ‘detail’ to sound rude! I was talking about my own post
