This should allow people to read it. Front page, no less. Starter texting to see if she is OK is not good enough but he doesn't seem to be pulled up on that.

Well done Speaker.
Well done the Sunday Times.
Shame on Labour.

Cismyfatarse · 19/09/2021 07:49

Do you think Starmer will make (or be forced to make) a more public condemnation of the abuse?

Also, love that Owen Jones gets pasted too.

Thanks for sharing

Jess Phillips still firmly fence sitting.

Jess Phillips, the shadow minister for domestic violence and safeguarding, said: “I am supportive of any woman who feels they face a security threat.”

She’s the shadow minister for DV how can she not get it?!

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 19/09/2021 08:00

Ugh at Jess’s pusillanimous distancing: ‘any woman WHO FEELS they have a security threat.’
The minimising is shocking for a woman who knows about VAWG.

Sparklfairy · 19/09/2021 08:05

She's my local MP and support for her (if you listen to the local FB group) is mixed because of the local desperation to be 'woke'.

I'm sure this link will be posted there soon so I will be interested to read the responses, will update here if you like Wink

MonsignorMirth · 19/09/2021 08:08

Imo Jess gets it, but wants to keep her job, understandably I guess.

StandWithYou · 19/09/2021 08:20

I wonder is KS is now going to have to come out and support Rosie Duffield? The abuse and lack of support from Labour and KS has now been raised as an issue for more people to see. My bet is on a fence sitting statement that doesn’t say anything. A text FFS.

highame · 19/09/2021 08:27

It has taken too long for the Speaker to get to this point. Maybe it's straw and camels back (not u Camilla), the fact that R Duffield can't attend Labour conference. The Times has been truly good at bringing this stuff to the fore. Times knows the public mood, even if SIr K doesn't. he does not have the strength of mind to do owt but fence sit

LongBlobson · 19/09/2021 08:29

I'm glad the Times are covering this. I'm increasingly disillusioned by the Guardian which I've always loved and considered my paper of choice.

I had a quick search for articles about Rosie on their website. They've reported on her becoming first ever labour MP for Canterbury, about her speaking up about domestic violence, about her attending a rally against antisemitism and about women's voices needing to heard in covid decision making.

Then there was this article a year ago:

www.google.co.uk/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2020/aug/03/define-what-a-woman-is-organise-politically-suzanne-moore

And now silence.

Good article

Waternoice · 19/09/2021 08:34

What I find very odd is that The Sunday Times is not included on this morning’s edition of the online BBC newspaper headlines. It’s always there, Unless I’m very mistaken.

Lessthanaballpark · 19/09/2021 08:34

The comments are very encouraging and I feel that one silver lining of this whole debate is that it has united men and women in so many ways. Hell! Even Douglas Murray is showing feminist tendencies!

I thought this comment was particularly good:

Also, just as an observation, when women express concerns that they may feel unsafe if male bodied people use their private spaces, issuing rape threats on social media is unlikely to reassure.

I mean what are those TRAs thinking when they send abuse?! That we’re going to think “oh please come into our spaces! You pose no threat whatsoever!”

MiladyBerserko · 19/09/2021 08:44

Wow, Waternoice. It is missing. That's really poor form

AuraofDora · 19/09/2021 08:46

Thanks for the share token OP.

It’s good to finally see coverage of this and front page too and Rosie Duffield getting support finally from someone in the HoC.

One thing in the article I am but puzzled by is this,

Sir Keir Starmer, is taking the Duffield case more seriously. He has recently texted her to check on her welfare, but others within the party have been less supportive.

He is taking it seriously and has texted her, not met or phoned to offer his support or any protection.
I’m reading this as sarcasm, how ‘supportive’ is a text ffs.

ScreamingMeMe · 19/09/2021 08:51

A Labour Councillor has said what Labour MPs couldn't bring themselves to. She's probably next in line at the witch burning for this.

"I am so upset - and angry - that Rosie is unable to attend conference due to fears for her own safety. We should all be able to disagree and to debate difficult and controversial issues without resorting to threats & violence"

FemaleAndLearning · 19/09/2021 08:57

Rosie really has been let down by her party. The Labour party are idiots. She took a conservative seat and this is how they repay her by allowing threats to keep her away from conference. They should be asking her how she managed to win her seat so other party members can have a chance if winning.
Glad to have her speaking out and really hope she doesn't get too worn down, we need women like her.

Abhannmor · 19/09/2021 09:10

Keir - the Pope has been assassinated! ' Right. I'll just send a text....'

Floisme · 19/09/2021 09:11

What the hell has happened to Keir Starmer? The guy was a public prosecutor - he literally used to confront people for a living.

And Jess Phillips needs to take that banner down from her Twitter bio:
'No victim left behind' it says.
You couldn't make it up.

Thanks for the share token.

IvyTwines2 · 19/09/2021 09:21

They've just covered it briefly on the Andrew Marr show, the female journalist from the Mirror saying it doesn't matter what people's views on the trans issue, women must be able to feel safe, and Marr adding at the end 'and express free speech'.

IvyTwines2 · 19/09/2021 09:22

Speculation on the segment about whether Starmer would say something during conference.

Adviceneeded54321 · 19/09/2021 09:33

Does the bbc not usually feature the Times front page? Or just today?

www.bbc.co.uk/news/blogs-the-papers-58612636

merrymouse · 19/09/2021 09:36

I don’t think this will ever end until somebody like Starmer is brave enough to say that trans women are not women. Any rights or protections they need stem from the fact that their sex is male.

You can’t base any one’s rights on a fantasy.

I was reading this and missed that…

Dh had to catch me up…doh!

What the hell has happened to Keir Starmer? The guy was a public prosecutor - he literally used to confront people for a living.

I wonder if he has read Shon Faye’s book or Judith Butler’s interview and asked himself if he really wants to support the wider political implications of Queer theory, because that is what underpins the politics currently pushed by the LGBT sections of SNP/Greens/Libdems/Labour.

Does he really think he can square that circle?
