This should allow people to read it. Front page, no less. Starter texting to see if she is OK is not good enough but he doesn't seem to be pulled up on that.
Does the bbc not usually feature the Times front page? Or just today?

www.bbc.co.uk/news/blogs-the-papers-58612636
I don't know the answer to that but I regularly listen to the newspapers review on Broadcasting House (R4) and it's a constant source of irritation that they never mention any coverage of the trans issue. I had high hopes that today with the Duffield story on the front page of the Sunday Times, it might come up...but no. I wonder if it's deliberate.

beastlyslumber · 19/09/2021 14:17

"the most serious crime imaginable"? So... Duffield was murdered? What? Is Lisa Nandy just thick?

There's really no support for Duffield from within the party at all, is there?

JustSpeculation · 19/09/2021 14:22

@MishyJDI

Usual Time beat up on trans activists being a threat, when its just rubbish. Even Duffield says it in the article:

"Duffield, who chairs the Women’s Parliamentary Labour Party, took the decision not to attend conference after being advised it was “not a good idea”. She said: “I mainly took the decision not because I really thought I was going to be attacked, but because I did not want to be the centre of attention."

Shame she is not attending, as she would quite rightly be challenged on her exclusionary views. Pity.

Would she be challenged? With things like arguments and reasons and such like? Or would she just be shouted down and sloganed at? Would she be listened to and responded to? I doubt it.

Slogans are not arguments. They do not challenge. Challenging involves addressing someone's ideas and giving your reasons for why you think they are false.

And before I get told to "educate myself", I have been doing just that for 18 months now, and I have yet to find a single coherent argument underlying the assertion that trans x are x except in the most metaphorical and fictional way.

Take a section of society with zero access to the press. Paint them exclusively as bad.

Men?

andyoldlabour · 19/09/2021 15:28

How can Jess Phillips be shadow minister for domestic violence, when she was the one trying to downplay the sexual assaults which took place in Cologne and other German cities?

@ScreamingMeMe

Oh, Mishy: 1000s of screenshots of violent threats on twitter, Maria Machalan being attacked, Julie Bindle being neay attacked, TRAs kicking the windows of a women's meeting, porn being posted to JK Rowling and most recently a TRA charging at a woman screaming "Witch! Witch! Witch!" rather prove you wrong.
Yes - Rosie Duffield might be downplaying the risk, but we have seen the tweets and videos of activists physically threatening women at meetings.

Whatever the motivation the threat is real.

ScreamingMeMe · 19/09/2021 15:58

@Helleofabore

Have to laugh at I.Willoughby’s tweet about the front page.

^Take a section of society with zero access to the press. Paint them exclusively as bad. When they respond on their only outlet - Twitter - go to press and say you’re being threatened for preaching how dangerous they are.
The Rosie Duffield story in short @Keir_Starmer^

Ummm… so I.Willoughby is not getting enough press at the moment then? Aww. What a shame.

Errr I think it's how some of you are responding that is the issue, India. Or do you think that's acceptable?
Artichokeleaves · 19/09/2021 16:21

I really am done arguing over the trivialities, 'lack of access to the press' and 'painting exclusively as bad' is taking hyperbole to the extreme.

No.

This is about female rights to not have to give their rights to males. On the grounds that the males matter more than they do. That's it. That's all.

There is no way to spin this to sound like something good. It isn't. When getting your desired thing requires forcibly taking it away from someone else, then yes, you are doing something wrong. This is basic nursery manners. Do a bit of reciprocal recognition of female people as equally human and we might get somewhere.

Artichokeleaves · 19/09/2021 16:25

When they respond on their only outlet - Twitter - go to press and say you’re being threatened for preaching how dangerous they are.

Fgs India.

When death threats, rape threats, DIGF, selfies with swords and machetes are how they respond on their only outlet, poor little sausages..... ?

yes you muppet, they are definitely choosing to make themselves look dangerous! It's not other people's problem to reframe them into a reality they'd like a bit better, they have to take responsibility for the actions of their own community!

Where are the tweets denouncing and separating from the violent, appallingly abusive misogynist ones?

Where is the statement from Stonewall that they absolutely do not support kerbstomping or raping or murdering women into compliance?

FlyingOink · 19/09/2021 16:35

But sir, that's my emotional support rape threat

For those who don't know, it's a meme...

Suzanne Moore has written about this today, her righteous anger is leaping off the page. Letters from Suzanne Moore 'Endanger Duffield. Endanger us all.' Fabulous writing.

BreadInCaptivity · 19/09/2021 17:04

LOJ isn't happy...

I could say more about what I think about this tweet but I'd break talk guidelines.

MonsignorMirth · 19/09/2021 17:09

So are abuse and threats 'real' 'hate crimes' or not? Or are they only hate crimes for some people and not others?

FlyingOink · 19/09/2021 17:12

Is pointing out what has actually happened "demonising"?
Is the idea that she just shuts up and puts up with it?

BreadInCaptivity · 19/09/2021 17:17

@MonsignorMirth

So are abuse and threats 'real' 'hate crimes' or not? Or are they only hate crimes for some people and not others?

In terms of OJ I'd go with the latter.

I'd also note the reference to LGBT.

Rosie has never said anything remotely homophobic.

He concern about women's rights being eroded by TRA's and self id is deliberately being re-framed by OJ here.

He also fails to grasp the irony of his classic DARVO response as whipping up further antagonism towards Rosie.

Right side of history? I don't think so.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 19/09/2021 17:18

Yes according to people like OJ she is in the wrong for mentioning it.
‘‘Twas ever thus when women speak out.

TheWeeDonkey · 19/09/2021 17:24

Ah so, the abuse isn't the problem. RD talking about the abuse is the problem!

Thanks, got it. Remind me again how this isn't an MRA movement?

Rubidium · 19/09/2021 17:29

Who can blame Rosie Duffield for giving Labour Conference a miss when this is what was being said at the last (pre-Covid) Labour conference in 2019:

(The fringe meeting of course being the Womens Place meeting where protestors banged on the windows for several hours).

Passmeamenuatthetottenham · 19/09/2021 17:33

That didn't happen.

And if it did, it wasn't that bad.

And if it was, that's not a big deal.

And if it is, that's not my fault.

And if it was, I didn't mean it.

And if I did...

You deserved it.

merrymouse · 19/09/2021 17:45

@MonsignorMirth

So are abuse and threats 'real' 'hate crimes' or not? Or are they only hate crimes for some people and not others?
‘Hate crime’ depends on intention, however I think you are confusing ‘hate crime’ with a real threat of violence.
merrymouse · 19/09/2021 17:47

Sorry, OJ is confusing!!

merrymouse · 19/09/2021 17:50

Also, the ‘Murdoch Press’ are reporting what Lindsay Hoyle said. Has he mentioned the speaker?

Passmeamenuatthetottenham · 19/09/2021 17:58

Rosie has seen all this fucking gaslighting abusive shit before in a personal relationship. She won't back down.

Why OJ is posting stuff about his own experiences of being attacked as a way to discredit and invalidate RD I do not know.

He is also now reaching for Prick News for shit to fling at her. Desperate or what.

On Twitter people slagging her off keep being asked what it is she has said that is so transphobic. It's mostly crickets, with the odd mention of her saying that 'only women have a cervix' as 'proof of her transphobia' coming up every now and then.

Interestingly Liz Truss was able to say 'women do have vaginas Nick' and not get too much shit for it. The left is absolutely riddled with misogyny.

ScreamingMeMe · 19/09/2021 17:58

@TheWeeDonkey

Yes, sounds very like one of the rules of misogyny. Funny that.
