This should allow people to read it. Front page, no less. Starter texting to see if she is OK is not good enough but he doesn't seem to be pulled up on that.

Why OJ is posting stuff about his own experiences of being attacked as a way to discredit and invalidate RD I do not know.

Because he is a misogynist who can’t accept that there is a specific category of violence that men commit against women. It’s no different to ‘all lives matter’.

This is so true. Refusing to recognise the oppression and prejudice that black people specifically face is a form of racism. You don't have to come out and overtly say that you hate black people in order to be racist.

This is exactly the same. OJ just doesn't see women as a valid class in their own right. He refuses to acknowledge that women are humans with their own specific needs, and that sometimes that doesn't include males. He doesn't believe women when they speak out about abuse they have suffered (he did the same with JKR, accusing her of making herself a 'martyr') if those women don't toe the line that he wants them to toe. Either do exactly as he says, believe exactly what he believes, or you are not worthy.

It's misogyny, pure and simple. And it seems to be repeated over and over again on the left at the moment. It's so depressing.

@Imnobody4

Waternoice They had the front page on The Papers BBC news last night, I watched the early edition but it wasn't discussed.
It was the first headline discussed on BBC News at 10ish this morning and was a surprisingly good diacussion. I don’t know who the reviewer was but it was definitely focussed on the abuse Rosie has been getting and the threats - and from the presenter too.
Charley50 · 19/09/2021 20:21

I can't see the article. That Labour conference footage is alarming.

nauticant · 19/09/2021 22:54

Carolyn Quinn is pushing this on the Westminster Hour on Radio 4 just now and Emma Lewell-Buck (Labour MP) was "TWAW, I had a friend, everyone needs to be kind". It sounded so clueless and I think the tide is turning.

BraveBananaBadge · 19/09/2021 23:30

Just caught up with LOJ's tweet on Glinner's newsletter. Absurdly offensive, even by his standards. He's absolutely appalling and seems to be getting worse.

ScreamingMeMe · 20/09/2021 07:00

Here is Glinner's post on the matter. These men are foul.

Think Glinner is right when he says:

"There’s not many of these lunatics left, you know. It’s just Owen Jones, Michael Cashman and a few others who made such fools of themselves in this debate that there’s really nothing they can do except front it out until the bitter end. "

ScreamingMeMe · 20/09/2021 07:07

This guy as well.

Protection! From terrorising views!

"Trans siblings need protection from Duffield and her views on this website - which actually terrorise trans people.

Many trans members have left
@UKLabour
and continue to do so because of her as well as her own staff leaving their jobs because of her."

merrymouse · 20/09/2021 07:15

I must be missing something. I have seen quite a few reports of women killed by men over the last few months, but nothing about trans people being murdered as a result of women describing biological reality.

I know the MSM might be suppressing these stories, but you’d have thought OJ et al would be able to provide some examples.

I agree.

Most people realise this is insane. Now that it's going mainstream, and ordinary people see that a perfectly sensible person like Rosie Duffield, expressing unexceptional views such as "only women have a cervix" and "women should have the right to single-sex spaces" is being accused of "terrorising trans people" and threatened with murder, they know which side they're on. The whole house of cards will come tumbling down.

I hope so, at any rate. I've been over-optimistic before.

ScreamingMeMe · 20/09/2021 12:30

Another Labour MP, Pat McFadden, has spoken out in support of Rosie.

KitchenDancefloor · 20/09/2021 13:10

I'm glad some people are finally siding with Rosie publicly.

This is the bashing she got from her local council leader recently. If he thought being nasty and vindictive would win him kudos or more votes, then I think he misjudged the public mood. Calling her transphobic hasn't changed my view on RD but it has made me see him as an opportunist misogynist.

And I love her a little bit more for handing out 'never kissed a Tory' stickers at Pride 🥰

A cynic might say that Owen is weaponising his trauma.

Not me, obviously.

MandyMotherOfBrian · 20/09/2021 13:27

@Sparklfairy

She's my local MP and support for her (if you listen to the local FB group) is mixed because of the local desperation to be 'woke'.

I'm sure this link will be posted there soon so I will be interested to read the responses, will update here if you like Wink

Interesting, I’m local too, but not on FB. The piece in the local online paper had more comments than I’ve ever seen on an article and they were pretty much all supportive of Rosie. Some of that and the criticism of Ben Fitter Harding may have been due to his track record as a local councillor I suppose, but even so, overwhelming on her ‘side’. I wonder if that’s indicative of the difference in the demographics using social media and local media news/print?
BlackLambAndGreyFalcon · 20/09/2021 14:02

Well done Rosie and the Sunday Times for covering this so prominently. I loved her T-shirt as well!

FlyingOink · 20/09/2021 14:20

This is a massive issue, personally I'd divide people specifically into Twitter users and non-Twitter users. The Labour Party found out about this phenomenon in the last GE, but hasn't addressed it at all.

Twitter is representative of Twitter, not of public opinion in general. And not just on progressive or cultural issues either. There's something particular about that platform that attracts people convinced theirs is the prevailing view. Maybe it's the ability to block entire swathes of people from interacting with you?

DefineHappy · 20/09/2021 15:16

@MiladyBerserko

Is that our Mishy?
Possibly - or just a weird coincidence. There are, after all, such a lot of people named Mish/Mishy out in the real world…..
Igmum · 20/09/2021 17:26

Well done Lindsay Hoyle and shame on the senior politicians who keep silent. We cannot expect women to participate in public life if they put themselves and their families in danger as a result. Well done RD

Lessthanaballpark · 20/09/2021 18:47

The problem is that when people talk about being opposed to GC beliefs/RD/JKR/MF because they support trans rights, it makes the average person, who is new to the debate, think that GC beliefs are anti-trans.

I mean I know that’s exactly what the extremists want people to believe but it’s infuriating because their strategy has been so successful.

I really hope people delve deeper and realise that GC is not transphobic but just a simple belief that biological differences matter in certain issues, which is basically what the majority of people know to be true.

ImprobablePuffin · 20/09/2021 20:05

@MishyJDI

Usual Time beat up on trans activists being a threat, when its just rubbish. Even Duffield says it in the article:

"Duffield, who chairs the Women’s Parliamentary Labour Party, took the decision not to attend conference after being advised it was “not a good idea”. She said: “I mainly took the decision not because I really thought I was going to be attacked, but because I did not want to be the centre of attention."

Shame she is not attending, as she would quite rightly be challenged on her exclusionary views. Pity.

Sorry how is stating that only women have a cervix exclusionary? When did people forget about ACTUAL BIOLOGICAL FACT?
DoctorTwo · 20/09/2021 21:50

I'm on Rosie Duffield's side here. Only women have a cervix is not hate speech, truth cannot be. The truth is just the truth.

catzwhiskas · 21/09/2021 00:46

Emily Maitliss on Newnight ( Monday) managed to slip in a question about why any woman should be fearful about attending conference. Labour man declined to answer.

anaily · 21/09/2021 01:02

The problem is that when people talk about being opposed to GC beliefs/RD/JKR/MF because they support trans rights, it makes the average person, who is new to the debate, think that GC beliefs are anti-trans.

That's my pov/angle, gc is just attacking and restricting trans people's lives. Gc just boils down to "you can't change sex" and that only applies to trans, which they see as an attack on them. That makes gc hostile to trans, hence the backlash by those declaring themselves gc as they are anti trans.
