Not sure if this has already been posted (link is to The Insider). Transboy took a school board to court because he was excluded from boys bathrooms.

Gavin Grimm said he wants those passing anti-trans legislation to know: "Slowly and surely we're coming for all of them."

Grim indeed.

The women front for the men as it looks better to the general public, then everyone wonders how things like Wii Spa happens.

Tibtom · 05/09/2021 21:32

I wonder of transmen prisoners will feel the same if they are required to serve sentences in men's prisons?

Fitt · 05/09/2021 21:33

An insurance company gives 1.3 million dollars to lawyers over toilets?

Abhannmor · 05/09/2021 21:34

Now you said it Tibtom..

NiceGerbil · 05/09/2021 21:35

How did/ would the boys feel? Getting undressed with a person with a female body?

Not fab I'm guessing. Loads of teen boys are shy about their bodies etc at the best of times.

Winning His Landmark Lawsuit Didn’t Make Gavin Grimm Rich. He’s Barely Getting By
“I'm facing a crisis in not having housing, not being able to work, and being destitute.”

I'm shocked I tell you.

Grimm, 22, sued the Gloucester County School Board in 2015 after it prohibited him from using the bathroom that matched his gender identity, arguing the policy violated Title IX, which bans sex discrimination in schools.

What is involved in claiming an opposite-sex gender identity in Virginia? Does a child just have to say 'I am a boy/girl' and the schools have to accept that and treat them as though they have literally changed sex?

My boys told me they would not use spaces like that. Extremely self-conscious during the teen years, just not comfortable to undress in front of girls. (And none of them, regardless of what they say about the ideology, truly believe humans can change sex.)

Our (understandable) focus on the safety aspects tends to overshadow the privacy and dignity issues in turning single-sex provisions into mixed-sex ones. They do matter though.

Gavin was only “out” for 6 months when Gavin was national news in the law suit. The saddest part of this interview is that now this case has concluded “I’m not with my family in the ACLU.”

Whatwouldscullydo · 05/09/2021 23:14

I wonder of transmen prisoners will feel the same if they are required to serve sentences in men's prisons? the idea if that makes my blood run cold. Please god. No . Do not do that to transmen

And god the poor boys here. They deserve privacy and dignity.

There's going to be alot of people happy if something happens to gavin . They are biologically female and there will be alot of revelling in " well thats what they wanted they got what they ask for" they won't get the support they need.

Fucks sake

Gavin is living on disability (Twitter bio includes ADHD & ASD). Gavin seems very vulnerable indeed.

IvyTwines2 · 05/09/2021 23:23

ACLU gets $1.3 million, and a young person who describes themselves as autistic and having ADHD and was a schoolchild when this kicked off is apparently facing homelessness and destitution. But hey, a 'win' for the ACLU!

Barheim · 05/09/2021 23:49

Good for him! Shame he's getting none of the funds out of it, though.

Would be absolutely devastating to be a trans kid in school and have to go through the humiliation of being forced into the wrong gendered spaces.

Clymene · 05/09/2021 23:52

I feel sorry for Gavin. Used as a political pawn. Gavin was offered a single space to change in but that wasn't enough.

God what a mess the ACLU is now. Along with Amnesty, it now belongs in a dumpster

It's almost as if there's a script. Sad
NiceGerbil · 05/09/2021 23:53

Gavin spent a million dollars on treatment for their cat?

dyslek · 05/09/2021 23:53

what worse than being medically experimented on? hmm

anyhoo, I was going to say that some peoeple might think the ACLU has used Gavin to create 'rights' for a set of people who are not actually like Gavin at all, and Gavin and the people who ARE like Gavin will actually suffer due to the activities of the ACLU and the 'rights' they are fighting for.

There are no 'gendered spaces'. There are spaces for the two sexes. 'Gender' should have nothing to do with which one people use. They can all use the one appropriate for their sex. People who object to this should learn to be more tolerant of those who are gender non-conforming.
Barheim · 05/09/2021 23:59

There isn't one. Neurodiverse people are just significantly more likely to be LGBTQ+ than neurotypical people. In the autistic community, for instance, the percentage of people who are LGBTQ+ is measured between 15% for a general analysis to 43% of the women in a Dutch study, compared to ~4.5% of the American population.

I'm not sure that is the gotcha you want it to be.

OldCrone · 06/09/2021 00:04

They're definitely gendered spaces.

Are you in the US? Is that what they're called there? Over here the protected characteristic in the Equality Act is 'Sex'. So we have single-sex exemptions which allow single-sex spaces. Nothing to do with gender. They are all open to people who share the same sex, no matter which of the 100 or so genders they self define as. (No idea how many genders there are)

OvaHere · 06/09/2021 00:04

There's a pattern of using female people as trojan horses to further the rights of male people who have anything but the best interests of female people at heart.

Barheim · 06/09/2021 00:05

I'm not sure that is the gotcha you want it to be.

Depends on if you're going down the route of insisting autistic people are being coerced into being attracted to their own gender.
