It is lovely! I'm unpacked and just need to go get rid of boxes now.

It does have a hideous yet cool "exploding" light shade..it might need to go. It's a bit too much....

Olderbadger1 · 31/08/2021 21:03

An exploding light shade sounds a little unexpected. can we have a picture?

MrsOvertonsWindow · 31/08/2021 21:30

Another one calling in to say congratulations Detroit. Wishing you all the best for your new home Flowers

TofuDelights · 31/08/2021 21:33

Enjoy lounging around in your apartment in your PJs Detroit! Hope you slept well on your first night. Those boxes could come in handy for something so it might be worth hanging onto them for a bit - dog toys, blankets, leads and collar, more dog toys....! 🐶

DetroitNeedsADog · 01/09/2021 01:26

The apartment is still listed and don't want it to reverse image search...

It is like a jigsaw in plastic, making up a ball. Pull one string and it opens up into a geometric shape. Pull the other and it closes into a ball. It is weird

DetroitNeedsADog · 01/09/2021 01:27

Doing much lounging and playing of guitar and trying to make myself choose some things for the apartment...like curtains...and pots and pans.. Im incapable I swear!

SelfPortraitWithEels · 01/09/2021 16:09

That's fab, Detroit! I'm relatively new here but hope you don't mind being randomly congratulated by someone you've never met... also your sushi socks rock. Grin Enjoy the lounging!

SelfPortraitWithEels · 01/09/2021 16:11

Is it this sort of thing?

midgemagneto · 01/09/2021 16:37

I have avoided the stress of choosing curtains by only having blinds

DetroitNeedsADog · 01/09/2021 21:21

Eels! Yes, close...but uglier and bigger and not metallic on the inside

DetroitNeedsADog · 01/09/2021 21:24

Nice to meet you eels! Thank you. I'm very fond of funky socks. After years of camping and wearing men's tube socks, I'm loving feeling more urban and less feral. Its hard to feel cute sometimes.

On the plus side I'm enjoying being flirted with by some very sweet lesbians. I'm so much happier as myself.

I have basically got nothing yet, I'm just sitting in there smiling like a loon. The blow up bed is killing my back. I got soft sleeping on the shelter mattresses!

DetroitNeedsADog · 01/09/2021 21:27

If anyone wants to slap me with a wet lettuce leaf (no abusing haddocks)...I must get a saucepan, sheets and another blanket. Maybe curtains.

Turned · 01/09/2021 21:46

Can I have a sloe gin please, and a nibble of some sort? I've given the camel and the goat a bit of a fuss, but no pickled onions.
Inspired by Detroit I shall be sat on the sofa with my guitar, learning Summer's End.

Olderbadger1 · 01/09/2021 22:45

Will a wet cabbage do Detroit? If so, you're on!

Ooo sloe gin - think I'll join you Turned...

DetroitNeedsADog · 02/09/2021 00:48

Hey turned! It is so pretty, isn't it! Capo on two I think to play to the same tuning as the record. Put it on Soundcloud!!
Gin and watermelon jerky? I got some watermelon jerky - vegan stuff - it is gorgeous! It would go well with vodka I think...or gin.
Ive lavender thc and cbd medical tablets...Im banned from the booze. Party pooper I know..

DetroitNeedsADog · 02/09/2021 01:55

A certain lovely mumsnetter, who I am not sure wants to be named...so won't unless she tells me it's ok .. sent me these today. In a vase. In a vase! I own a vase! At this rate I'll be chewing bon bons and be readmitted into polite society!

Thank you, darling!

theThreeofWeevils · 02/09/2021 02:45

Hurrah for lovely mner! Hurrah for vase ownership and sunflowers!

Swift ear count. Still two? Keep it that way.

AnyOldPrion · 02/09/2021 07:02

Congratulations Detroit! I don’t think we’ve chatted, but lovely to see this.

DetroitNeedsADog · 02/09/2021 07:35

I am pretty sure the goat did not eat an ear. There were still two at last count. I do keep singing starry starry night and feeling a strong urge to paint the walls with a palette knife.
It was all kinds of beautiful to see the guy with my flowers come up to my non functioning doorbell, lean out of the window like a fishwife and yell "Ill be right there!"
Thank you prion. I am in deep shock. I have a saucepan, a frying pan, a cookie sheet, proper sheets on my blow up mattress and a little tv. I presumed I would never get back into a home, and was going to die out there, which I probably would have if I hadn't have come to the big bad city and got inside.
To be frank talking to you lovely sheros triggered some kind of memory of what life could be, and alongside my new friends, coaxed me into doing what had to be done. Ten months in a homeless shelter in a pandemic was not exactly easy, but Im glad I did it.
Im having another couple of 'light days' working, then back to the book writing.

QuentinBunbury · 02/09/2021 10:32

Hi all Grin I seem to have been on a dry spell for the last pub. Just unlurked for the curtain chat. I love soft furnishings. detroit may I suggest ebay for second hand curtains? Or charity shops?

Feminism caused me and DP to have a lively chat about philosophy today, off the back of the "Right to sex" thread. He has a philosophy degree and I'm a scientist. Apparently philosophers are just driven to publish their ideas but don't expect people to read or understand them Confused

He also told me to write to the author but I don't think I'll be doing that. Too high a risk of telling her I think she's talking hairy bollocks

ablutiions · 02/09/2021 15:45

Just popping in from my sick bed to add to the 'happy new home' messages for @DetroitNeedsADog Grin

If it's the light in the picture, I have one of those. They're from IKEA. V groovy.

One of the goats may be chez moi as I've been getting a bit cross about a few things lately. Will send it back so as not to hog it. Apols.

DetroitNeedsADog · 02/09/2021 16:36

Curtains...I've a large bay window and a smaller ordinary window, so need matching 4 panels for the bay and two for the other one.

I did find two rainbow panels in a lovely gay charity shop, might mix them with grey paisley panels in I can find some.

The bathroom blind is broken, and the kitchen needs something over the window, but there's no way to afix curtains in there, and can't screw anything into the frame. I think I'll use removable gel clings to obscure my kitchen window from the fire escape.

Anyone lost a camel?

ErrolTheDragon · 02/09/2021 19:32

Sounds good, and the sunflowers are lovely.

We went to some nice gardens today; a tree which had lots of different ribbons hung from it last time we visited only appeared to have the purple, green and white ones remaining. And the main planting in a formal garden was lovely calm shades of purple and white among the green foliage. That's probably just because it looked nice but I'm thinking I should try for those colours in some of my pots and small front border next year.

You could use tension fit rods and voiles in the kitchen detroit. Tension fit rods are usually cheap
