Feeling depressed. What the hell is the point of education?
We have a 15 year old house guest from Germany. Goes to a grammar school and is bright and interested in things.
I gave her the Youtube video to watch which shows a man asking American university students about whether they believe him if he (a medium height 40 year white old man) tells them that he's a completely different type of person. She watched it and then told me she would have believed the man. I asked her if she would believe me if I, a middle-aged woman, told her I was a 5 year old boy. She said she would. If I say I am a 5 year old boy, then I am.
Does the human species deserve to survive?

I'm not sure your 'test' is particularly robust, OP. I'd love to see some of her texts home to her parents!

What was the context of you showing her the YouTube video OP? Had you already been talking about gender ideology, or did you just randomly spring it on her put of nowhere?

The topic came up in conversation, and I naively thought that the video would make her think about things a bit.
Our cat loves going for walks with people, so I have now decided that she is in fact a dog and should be treated accordingly.

The German grammar school system may not teach children to distinguish men from women, but it does a really good job of teaching them English.

Its amazing that anyone can push the nothing to see here line in the face of at least one generation being indoctranated to publically deny the informaiton of their own eyes, ears and brain. Denying basic reality to fit in with an idology is very new in our society.
Technically you could draw paralells with neoconservative economic and pro-war idololgy, but even with that propaganda you did not need to deny such basic reality right in front of you to go along with it.
I struggle to undersand anyone who isent horrified and facinated in equal measure.

She probably just wants to disengage from the topic, either because she's not actually that interested, or she recognises you're going to keep on and on about it otherwise, so she's just being ridiculous to try and bring things to a close. As a good host, you should probably take the hint and stop trying to browbeat your young guest with youtube gotchas.

Well this is the very crux of the issue with trans ideology in general. If you follow it to all of its logical conclusions then you end up in some crazy places, like believing that grown women can be 5 year old boys if they so identify.

It is largely for this reason, as well as the glaring clashes with women's rights, that the whole thing is destined to collapse, and soon. Its just too batshit.

I would agree that common sense says that its too batshit to survive long, but horrifyingly crazy shit has taken over society before.
You would probably have to go back to the middle ages for ideas as toxic as these about women, but absolutly bartking shit has been accepted, sometimes for hundreds of years.
Espicially woman and imigrants are vulernable because they are always an outgroup in society anyway.

This is what teachers should be doing, in my view. The school system should not be looking on (at best) while our young people are brainwashed. I hope that I may at least have sown a germ of doubt in her mind, even if she's not prepared to admit it.

I agree schools should be speaking up for reality and the importance of critical thinking and safeguarding, that they are not is surely a scandal.

It doesn't really sound like you've just been having a conversation with her though, it sounds like you've been badgering her relentlessly because she dared have a different opinion than you, and now you've cornered her into a position where she can only hope that if she doesn't budge, you'll finally give up and leave her alone.

Nope. She's very self confident and was expressing her views.
I'm not sure how the Germans do it, but all the German children I come across are extremely self-assured.

Well, one thing they're clearly not doing is forcing anti-trans rhetoric down their children's throat so maybe you should take a leaf out of their book.

In my (fairly considerable) experience, bright, well-educated teenage girls tend to enjoy discussing things that are relevant to their lives. Weird, that.

Pro-women, not anti-trans.
