It's okay to let people be who they are.

OP posts:

@Whatwouldscullydo

Binary implies 2 doesn't it?

So if there are 100 genders as per the BBC suggest

Then surely that means you'd be non- centary?

That’s a third of the year taken up if they all have a day.

Busy times!

risefromyourgrave · 14/07/2021 11:42

Oh no, I don’t want non-binary day to overshadow Shark Awareness Day. I love sharks, now they really do need protecting from bigotry. 🦈🦈🦈

NotBadConsidering · 14/07/2021 11:43

Happy non-brinary day to you!!

Maybe NHS staff can wear special lanyards and badges to show they’re dolphin-friendly.

If Non-Binary Day and Bastille Day are the same, does that mean someone who identifies as neither a Royalist nor a Bonapartist?

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 14/07/2021 11:43

Then surely that means you'd be non- centary?

Or perhaps just ex-centric!

The non-brinary pun did make me cackle, though. Jilly Cooper, is that you? Smile

On a less frivolous note it does make me scratch my head, too. 'Non-binary' is the default gender critical position. We don't want to be pigeonholed into someone else's neat little box as to what they expect 'gendered' looks and behaviour to be. Neither do the people who 'come out' as non-binary.

Gender critical position: get rid of the boxes and the distinctions. Present as you want, challenge narrow stereotypes, fight for the right to coexist without being persecuted for the way you look.
Gender ideologists' position: create a new box.

I don't compute it. Legitimately.

Absolutely! This compulsion to put everyone in a box is mind-boggling. It’s profoundly restrictive.
merrymouse · 14/07/2021 11:52

Yes, happy non binary day to 8 billion people!

merrymouse · 14/07/2021 11:53

@RufustheBadgeringReindeer

Nicely put avocadowoman

Its beyond me why mumsnet allows these threads to be posted on this board

At best its an honest post in which case it should be somewhere like LGBT children/parents or maybe chat

At worst its goading and looking for screenshots

Very true.

Stonewall etc.,

www.stonewall.org.uk/about-us/news/being-non-binary-uk-today

'But while being non-binary allows me to play with gender, laugh at my own physical entity, and occupy as much space as feels most comfortable, I’m also forced to confront the fact that others will perceive me as gendered whether I like it or not, and that there are very real barriers that stop me from having my identity recognised in society.'

takingmytimeonmyride · 14/07/2021 12:04

Thank you. I'm non binary.

My son told me I am when I told him I didn't "feel" like a woman.

So yay for me!

Obviously I should be brave and come out.

Or maybe it's all a load of bollocks and everyone is non binary and coming out would be an appropriation of the difficulties actual gay and lesbians may face when they come out.

More oppression olympics.

Wish my son could see how close he is to the truth of it. (He is gay, and he was so worried about coming out to me, when I have no problem with it) he's totally swallowed the line that everyone feels like their sex so as he doesn't he's non binary. No, everyone feels like themselves mate. What used to be personality is now gender identity. 🙄

And I would like to point out before anyone accuses me of misgendering him that he hasn't told me which pronouns to use so I use his sex based ones.

MajesticWhine · 14/07/2021 12:09

I am "not binary".
Can I have a day?

allmywhat · 14/07/2021 12:15

Epicycles! No wonder the number of genders keeps multiplying.

At what point do they realise that “gender identity” is as broken a model as geocentrism? I’m not holding my breath.

DickKerrLadies · 14/07/2021 12:16

Happy Everyone Day everyone!

Inclusive of everyone - what's not to like?

Side note, I am critical of gender for the same reasons as I fit every definition of non-binary I've ever read - because I believe gender roles are shit and I'd rather just be who I am, thanks very much.

Yepyes · 14/07/2021 12:20

Happy goady fucker day OP!

Quaggars · 14/07/2021 13:35

I'm not non binary myself, but Happy Non Binary Day to anyone who is celebrating Cake Flowers

AlfonsoTheMango · 14/07/2021 13:39

I use Base 0 rather than Base 10, making me non-binary. Go, me!

Ereshkigalangcleg · 14/07/2021 13:41

Yes, happy non binary day to 8 billion people!

We should all crack open the bubbly and have a slice of cake.

Dollpiglet · 14/07/2021 13:46

I have make up on AND trousers. I have long hair AND I like driving fast cars. I'm very non binary apparently. Probably more non binary than normal non binary people. In fact I'm polar negative positive binary.

Make sure you masculine side opens the champers with a sword and your feminine side bakes the cake. Don't want to upset anyone.

Happy nonentity day to all our usual shitposters 🎉

Ereshkigalangcleg · 14/07/2021 14:14

dolphin-friendly.

I'm non dolphinary, personally

MsFogi · 14/07/2021 14:20

When are "Rad Fem" and "Gender Critical Women" days? I would be very happy to celebrate them. I'm finding it difficult to muster up much enthusiasm for non-binary day, indeed, work out why this has been posted on the Feminist board? Is it okay to post irrelevant stuff on this board MNTowers yet anything with even the most tenuous link to self-id/gender critical stuff gets swept onto this board? Surely, this sort oft thread should be moved to the LGBTQwerty board?

Artesia · 14/07/2021 14:29

I laugh at my physical entity on a very regular basis. Usually in a slightly bitter way, as I try to cram my ever expanding physical entity into my depressingly too small jeans.

Does that make me non-binary? Or do I need to specifically laugh at my non binary sex organs?

ErrolTheDragon · 14/07/2021 14:33

I'm pretty sure people who use base zero don't count.Grin
