This is my take on non binary:

1. Gender ideology requires adherence to rigid binary gender stereotypes, so given that some people won’t fit into these, but still want to be with it and cool, “non binary” is inevitable.
2. Some girls and women think it’s a bit naff and uncool being a “Cis” woman, and they’re more special than that.
3. Some girls & women don’t want to be the underdog (similar to 2 but diff emphasis, and sadder, as more internalised misogyny)

I think that’s it really.

Makes me think of the ‘cool girls’ at school. They didn’t go home after school to do homework, oh no, their boyfriend ( from another school, you wouldn’t know him) was going to pick her up in his flash car ( down the road because she didn’t want her mum to find out because he was a ‘bad boy’) and whisk her off to night clubs and adventures.

I think the new cool will be being at home in your born body and being proud of being a girl (or boy). Everyone is non-binary, nobody adheres to silly 1950s views of what a man and woman are. Teenagers always want to be different and special (and often end up no different if everyone takes up the trend).
So I'll indulge children in their delusions, but any adult that declares themselves non-binary should just be embarassed....

You misinterpreted. I'm British and gender critical. I just don't see how "happy non-binary people's day" is contributing in any way to this board, and so should probably be moved to chat. Why feminist threads get pulled from AIBU but this is allowed to stand, I don't know? The replies are pretty funny though.

OK, it's got a bit silly, I think there are some good points being made though, in spite of the daftness. I'm quite new here and don't understand the difference between the threads. I suppose you're a founder member or something. Firmly put in my place.

Oh no, not putting anyone anywhere. Took offence to the yank scented candle comment somewhat. I only joined this year. :-)

I suggested to MNHQ way back at the start that the thread would be better off in the LGBT++ board but for some reason they chose to leave it here.

littleredberries It wasn't yank scented candle, it was a Yankee Candles scent, which I suspected the original poster was naming herself after (if you'd bothered reading you would have known) And if people didn't keep bumping the thread to make a point, it would have quietly gone away by now....
