Looks like Helem Webberley's substantive case has finally been listed for 26th July 2021

@ItsAllGoingToBeFine

Interestingly Mermaids are still recommending them...
Looks like Mumsnet have deleted the image? I can't get it to open.

Is there anywhere else that can be seen online? It'd be very useful for a blog post I'm writing. Thanks.

33feethighandrising · 22/07/2021 22:19

@MaudTheInvincible

It's not often I get to use the word mountebank, but this is one of those times. Helen Webberley is, imvho, a mountebank.
Ooh, I wonder if Suzie Dent will use that while the trial is on?

I often think she must be one of us as her definitions on Twitter seem to tie closely to what's going on in feminist world. But then other times I think it's probably a bit like a horroscope - easy to apply to a load of different circumstances so people think it chimes with them when it's just coincidence.

DeeDimer · 22/07/2021 22:56

Not really relevant to the post but HW was my (very good) GP and MW was consultant in my then local hospital who was brilliant with me when I was quite poorly. I really like them both.
How have things gone so wrong?

It's so bizarre DeeDimer
He was a consultant Gastropub-enterologist, and presumably was heading towards retirement as I believe he is suspended retired now.
Why end an excellent career in this way?
Even if he suddenly felt a need for post retirement income, I feel sure a gastroenterologist could turn to private practice IBS/dietary stuff and coin it in without too much effort
I guess I'll never understand. Hmm

Grumblemonster · 23/07/2021 06:12

I think Floral has it right. Is it more likely that a woman with the intelligence to attain a medical degree isn't able to understand the role of the GMC and how fitness to practice tribunals work, or is it more likely she knows perfectly well but wants to control the narrative and make a good publicity show for potential customers who probably understand less than her?

I've just noticed my autocorrect fail - Gastropub-enterologist, Grin
I'm sure that would have been a very lucrative career change (pre-Covid anyway).

Hear hear.

She’s a disgrace.

Masdintle · 23/07/2021 08:35

I laughed at that autocorrect Fanny Grin

I thought it was deliberate. And very amusing Grin
FloralBunting · 23/07/2021 09:06

I'll also suggest how very cruel it is that she's doing this 'I can win this tribunal and it will mean the NHS will change and all the transkids will be able to get all the affirming treatments they want!' because she knows that's not true.

She's building her clients this fantasy that they will cling to in hope, because she and her ilk have convinced them it's their only hope, and she knows it will not happen. So when she loses and markets her business, she will have this narrative working that her getting struck off was because of the evil UK GMC forbidding proper care, and she is now their only hope.

She doesn't believe it all. She is selling snake oil and she bloody knows it.

FloralBunting · 23/07/2021 09:06

And I wouldn't go to a gastropub run by her husband either!Grin

Ekofisk · 23/07/2021 09:58

“GCs want to take away our medical care” is already a common TRA rallying cry.

Leafstamp · 23/07/2021 10:24

I’ve read on here before....for some poor parents of young people who have undergone drug or surgical treatment to change their bodies, it must be a case of almost having to/easier to believe you’ve done the right thing rather than admit a mistake of such gravity has been made. It’s heartbreaking really.

OnlyTheLangOfTheTitberg · 23/07/2021 13:06

I do hope that when HW starts evangelising on the stand about the best treatment for “trans children”, she explains in detail exactly how the diagnostic test to identify which are the 80-85% of pre-pubertal children identifying as trans who will reconcile with their birth sex post-puberty and which are the 15-20% with persistent gender dysphoria works. Because obviously it would be completely inappropriate and unethical to set the former cohort down the (W)path of hormones and surgery, so the diagnostic test must be very rigorous and leave no doubt as to how each child will identify several years into the future. I’ll be delighted to learn more about it, because there is a surprising lack of information available about the test. But there must be one, obviously, because as I say - it would be incredibly unethical and completely contrary to the principles of the Hippocratic oath to medicalise children for life without such a diagnostic tool.

Well said.

I also look forward to hearing about said diagnostic test.

FannyCann · 23/07/2021 15:33

I think there's definitely a future for the role of Gastropub-enterologist - I'm seeing a serious career path.
Combining knowledge of microbiology, food allergies and special diets. Consulting on health and safety/safe kitchen practices. Offering private consultation for dietary advice. In house tests for helicobacter.
Menu planning and advice for diners. You know. When the wait staff have finished describing the specials and before the maitre D up sells a bottle of wine our Gastropub-enterologist slinks into view to personally advise on the protein/fat/carbohydrate ratios of each dish, and balancing the courses, totting up calories for anyone on a diet, sorting out the allergies.

At least another bottle of wine will be consumed during this time.

Mike backed the wrong horse!

What links does she have to manchester, or Is it just a sympathetic editor?

AfternoonToffee · 25/07/2021 21:07

She has the victim role well played there. Interesting that she decided to take this path after deciding that one of her patients couldn't possibly be expected to catch a train to Cardiff and then onto London - I presume that prior to this she hadn't cared about every other patient who needed to go elsewhere in Wales or England for specialist care.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 25/07/2021 22:07

The hearing's in Manchester.

"On this special episode of the GenderGP podcast, Helen and Marianne sit down and talk about the upcoming Medical Practitioners’ Tribunal Service hearing. Helen shares her hopes and fears for what’s to come, talks about her support from the community, and tells her story – in her own words."

NotTheFunKindOfFeminist · 25/07/2021 22:13

Is she allowed to talk about an upcoming trial? I thought that was usually a big no no?
