The use of the term 'trans widow'

I've found this term in poor taste ever since I saw it, and this article I've seen on Twitter is a great look at why.

Marriages end all the time because one spouse isn't who the other thought they were. It's sad or heartbreaking or difficult, and people have (obviously) got the right to grieve for a relationship which is no longer the same. But it isn't a death and it's thoughtless to describe it as though it is.

Not sure if this is disingenuous but giving you the benefit of the doubt, period is absolutely used on social media to mean 'fact' now.

I just looked up the definition of 'widow'; the accepted definitions include women who's husbands are away a lot playing sport, and an awkward piece of text at the end of a page that leaves too much white space.

Final thing before I too leave this thread: The transitioning MEN claim they are dead, NOT the wives they left. Period. Do I believe he's dead? Of course not, no more than I believe he's a woman. Those saying WE claim our Hs are actually dead are misinformed. The use of the term is the same as how it is used - without the least objection - in relation to golf, etc.

It shows how little understanding they actually have. They’re spouting off about something they know nothing about and have never bothered to do even the most cursory research into.

For a while we had lots of posts about ‘I’m a cis woman and this is why GC views are bad for me’ and there was also a period of ‘I’m a young trans person and this is what you don’t understand’.

YABU. Having had a friend transition it feels very much like a bereavement. That person no longer exists.

And how on earth does "deadnaming" fit in? isn't it he previous name of a person whi is now considered to be dead? That is the language that has come from the trans lobby, not from us.

I understand why it's upsetting for actual widows, however, long before the term 'transwidows' was know, there were golf widows, gaming widows, cycling widows, even WOW widows (World of Warcraft). It's come about because as the moment the English language does not have a word for when someone has lost their partner to something else, instead of someone else.

I don't see why aibu threads about sec / gender discussions have to wind up here.

That's exactly the intention. Unfortunately for them, the sunlight is now hitting the media in a shitstorm and so whilst they try and silence the transwidows other women will rise up. They will soon find we won't shut up and they cannot control our language.

We still know exactly what a man is.
