Preferred names for streamlined feminist sections on MN.

MN have stated they intended to streamline the number of sub forums on the feminist board. They have proposed that one section is called sex and gender. Many of us feel that any section dedicated to discussing sex based rights should include the word feminism. There are multiple threads running discussing this issue but I thought it might be useful to have a single thread where @MNHQ could see the preferences of regular users in the hope we can agree on a board title which accurately reflects the subjects being discussed.

This is not a discussion thread, it's intended to collect the suggestions for board names in one place.

Two sub sections will remain in the streamlined feminist topic. The stated intention is to allow room for discussion about women's sex based rights on one and a second for more general feminist discussion.

How would you prefer these sections to be titled?

My preferences are:

Feminism and Women's Rights
Feminist Chat

Gender Critical Feminism

Liberal Feminism

I think it is important to keep the names really short.
How about
Feminism: rights
Feminism: general

We don't get to choose what we call ourselves.
I mean, we can all see the irony in this, amirite?

That hadn't occurred to me but now you point it out I'm not sure there is enough irony in the world to cover this.

Will MNHQ have seen this thread, I @ them in the OP or do I need to report myself?

As it doesn't have anything to do with women's sex based rights, I would assume the general board is where it would be discussed.

I haven't had a chance to read through that whole thread but from what I've seen, I have a feeling that many posters would agree with me that if someone has asked for particular pronouns to be used, then they should be referred to using those pronouns. If you have seen any transphobic posts, then I would recommend that you report them.

I would say neither. A customer support worker dealing badly with a customer, according to the Press, is not a feminist issue.

I don’t want GC. That’s just a modern nomenclature for women and girls sex based rights and doesn’t convey the issue the same way for newbies.

I haven’t seen the thread re a network rail employee but that answer is glib. A customer being dealt badly with because they are a woman is a feminist issue, a customer being dealt badly with because of their race is a race issue so a customer being dealt badly with because they are trans is either a trans / gender issue or potentially a feminist issue if the reason there is hostility is the trans person is based on them insisting they are exactly the same as a woman and infringing a woman’s rights /space. In which case the new board.

I agree with this, as long as FWSBR shows up as easily as the other one, when looking for a board.

I'd still question why this is being done at all, though. It's unnecessary, I haven't seen a reasonable explanation & if it really has to be done, MN should start another board somewhere else for 'Mimsy Feminism'.

Nice and bland so as to not trigger anyone as we can't have that, can we? Any lib-fems and any chat not to do with sex and gender will be able to have a safe space from the women who spout literal violence.

My belief is that most of the threads will start in FWR type section and MNHQ will be kept busy as reports come in that it's the wrong section. Tbh, it's pretty easy to keep any thread started in FWR type section in that section.

We have to make sure that AIBU, Chat, Relationships and other high traffic areas are made aware of the the changes.

It's not really about space to discuss anything feminist not related to sex
(no idea either) it's about some feminists not wanting to have to deal with the "mean" feminists. My finger is itching to insert another set of inverted commas into that sentence.

Mine are "how much traffic to this site is driven by FWR" and "how many paid subscribers are you going to lose over this?" (But I like your suggestions if they have to do this, which I hope they don't)

The Feminism boards are why I came back.

The Daily Mail using stories from MN is why I left. But the Feminists brought me back.

I do not like the idea of any of the boards having the word 'gender' in the title.

Women's Sex-Based Rights is a good suggestion but I do feel that keeping the word Feminism is important.

So anything that includes the words:

Feminism / Feminist
Woman / Women (as in Adult Human Female)
Sex / Sex-based
Adult Human Female
XX

Nothing that involves the word 'gender' please. Gender is made up nonsense, perpetuates stereotypes, doesn't help women or girls (or for that matter boys and men). I'm boycotting gender (I won't complete the section on a form if it asks for my gender - not unless there's room to write "my gender is sex-based" on it anyway).

That so many have hidden it just shows how popular FWR is. There are loads of boards I have no interest in but they aren't popular, so don't come up on active or get in way of what I want to look at , so no need to block them.

I think Justine and co have not considered this logically at all.

Seriously though, let's have Feminism and Women's Rights and the person who emailed Justine complaining that their chosen topics don't get enough replies can come up with a name and description and listing criteria for their new non-women's-rights board. Not out circus, not our monkeys.

The new boards are a mess. I'm constantly flicking between the two. It's so annoying.

I'm wondering (this is directed at Justine & Co) if any of the people who made this decision are replayed on the feminism board. I think not.

I'm most worried about the trans windows. We must centre women (& particularly these women) on the feminism board. These women are marginalised at ever turn & MN has just done this very thin.

Please please re-merge them. They belong together.

I can't yet fathom how to discuss feminism with mentioning biological sex and gender expression?
