Maya Forstater's appeal skeleton

Saw this on twitter and thought it deserved a thread to itself.

As Jason Braler (employment lawyer) says on twitter "It's more a thesis than a traditional skeleton, but it certainly drives home the points from every conceivable angle.
It may also be the only ever EAT skeleton to have 4 references to Orwell"

Good luck today Maya! Star

Joshua Rozenberg article with summary of appeal:

'Can you believe sex is immutable?
Not according to an employment judge — but will the appeal tribunal agree?'
(extract)
"Is a belief that sex is different from gender so extreme that it’s unworthy of respect in a democratic society?'
That’s the opening question Ben Cooper QC and Anya Palmer ask the Employment Appeal Tribunal in a devastating skeleton argument prepared for a two-day hearing that starts this morning." (continues)

Ah, I was just going to link to Rozenberg’s article and that devastating skeleton argument comment Smile

Terranean · 27/04/2021 08:02

Rooting for Maya ! Good luck!

Whatwouldscullydo · 27/04/2021 08:06

Good luck maya

Sophoclesthefox · 27/04/2021 08:15

Good luck Maya!

Your devastating skeleton is a masterclass in simply laying out the foundation of what we debate here every day. Sex matters. Women matter. Rights matter, and where they conflict, we need more conversation not less.

bellinisurge · 27/04/2021 08:22

Good luck, Maya.

Sitting (well, trying to) here dealing with nerve damage flare up in my private parts 14 years after I gave birth . Having to endure some little dahling I know online wittering on about how mean "terfs" are mean and how biology doesn't determine who you are.

I will be following the live tweets. That's my self care. Knowing that a woman's right to acknowledge the impact of her biology is being defended. Not painting my fucking nails.

SelfPortraitWithEels · 27/04/2021 08:30

@bellinisurge Flowers

Good luck, Maya!

Leafstamp · 27/04/2021 08:40

@Helleofabore

Good luck Maya.

It is wonderful to see istandwithmaya trending on twitter and read the messages of support.

And Mary Wollstonecroft is trending too, as it’s her birthday! Lovely coincidence!
CardinalLolzy · 27/04/2021 08:40

Good luck. This will be interesting! I'll be following as much as I can. Are we going to be following along in this thread?

Greenflygatherer · 27/04/2021 08:44

Good luck to you Maya, and all your team!

Thank you always!

OvaHere · 27/04/2021 08:47

Best of luck Maya Flowers

Feels slightly bizarre to be saying that because this case is so preposterous she really shouldn't have to be arguing it in the first place.

eurochick · 27/04/2021 08:54

Good luck Maya. I hope sense prevails this time around.

FrancesGumm · 27/04/2021 08:56

Good luck Maya Flowers - thank you

DialSquare · 27/04/2021 09:06

Good luck from me too.

ArabellaScott · 27/04/2021 09:11

Best of luck Maya.

GrabbingTheWorldByTheLapels · 27/04/2021 09:11

Good luck Maya and thank you for all your resilience and grit. You do women proud.

I realise you could have done without that first ridiculous verdict. But look at all the good it has done in the following 18 months.
JK Rowling’s call to arms and the burst of sunshine. The public are becoming more and more aware and finding the courage in numbers to call out the TRA lunacy.

It’s just a matter of time before the wall crumbles and you can count yourself as one who took a huge sledgehammer to it.

I salute you.

morningtoncrescent62 · 27/04/2021 09:13

Good luck Maya. I'm at work today so I can't follow the live tweeting very much, but I'm thinking of you. The appeal skeleton is terrific. Like others, I can't believe it's come to this, but here we are. Thank you more than I can say for your bravery and determination.

yourhairiswinterfire · 27/04/2021 09:22

Good luck Maya! Thank you for everything you do, and for not backing down Flowers You're inspirational.

highame · 27/04/2021 09:31

I've just read that the EHRC are intervening on behalf of Maya - hope that information is correct. It's on the sex being immutable I believe.

highame · 27/04/2021 09:33

It is right, it's come from Allison Bailey Grin

Marcia1989 · 27/04/2021 09:39

The key problem with gender id as a sex characteristic is that there is no evidence everyone, or even most people, have a gender identity. It is also cannot be objectively defined. From a scientific pov that makes it quite problematic. Everyone has genitalia, chromosomes etc and these can be observed and described objectively even if we disagree about their significance.

R0wantrees · 27/04/2021 09:42

And Mary Wollstonecroft is trending too, as it’s her birthday! Lovely coincidence!

How wonderful and hopefully auspicious of the future vindication of the rights of women.

Unformidable · 27/04/2021 09:56

I willbe following on twitter today. Good luck Maya!

ArabellaScott · 27/04/2021 10:01

'It's very significant that the @EHRC
is intervening on behalf of @MForstater
in her appeal, which begins today.

The body set up by the Equality Act 2010 thinks, like Maya, that believing that sex is immutable is a philosophical belief worthy of respect.

Better late than never.'

Holy fuck!
