LGB Alliance is now a registered charity

It took over a year...

"LGBA applied to register as a charity in March 2020. Its purposes are to promote equality and diversity and human rights.
The test of charity status is set out in law. A charity is an organisation with exclusively charitable purposes for the public benefit, that is subject to the jurisdiction of the High Court of England and Wales. If it meets these legal tests, it will be entered on the charity register.
It is not the Commission’s role to make value judgements about the aims or ideas put forward by any organisation. Instead, its role is to decide whether an organisation’s purposes fall within the legal definition of charity.
The Commission received a number of objections to the registration of LGBA as a charity. It carefully considered these as part of making its decision. In handling this application, the Commission has had regard to the Public Sector Equality Duty.
Registered charities fall under the Commission’s regulation, and their trustees must continuously meet the legal duties and responsibilities set down under charity law. A charity can promote the rights of one or more specific groups, but may not do so whilst demeaning or denigrating the rights of others, including on social media – and the Commission will consider taking regulatory action where that occurs.
The full decision, explaining the grounds for registering the organisation and the objections that were considered, can be found on GOV.UKK_"

@Erkrie

I suggest we use ASugarr handily provided link to complain against a charity which really is harming people - Stonewall.

Yes, absolutely do it.

Great idea.

Go ahead. If that's what you wish. To be homophobic and damage one of the organisations who helped give us equal rights. But if that's how you feel then sure.
Biscuitsanddoombar · 21/04/2021 07:30

@Tibtom

That's what their website says. However I'd love for you to find anything they've done that supports transgender people and their struggle

Why should they? That is not their remit. It is a bit like complaining that the cats protection league is not supporting dogs

This! Why is this so difficult for some people to get their heads round? (Rhetorical question - I know it’s because they just don’t want to but anyway)

The children’s society does not campaign for old people
MIND doesn’t campaign for people with cancer
The british heart foundation does not campaign for people who are Deaf
And the donkey sanctuary does not campaign for squirrels!!

There is no reason at all why LGBA cannt focus solely on LGB people the same way that mermaids exists only for trans people

Terranean · 21/04/2021 07:30

@Tibtom thanks for the great idea. I can think of some other I personally would like to complain about. It’s quite smelly, like fish!

ASugarr · 21/04/2021 07:31

Because it doesn't focus on LGB people. That's what LGB people are trying to say but people refuse to listen.

Erkrie · 21/04/2021 07:31

And your daughter has the right to choose what she wishes when it comes to her support.

As long as it falls into line with what people like you want. Because if people like you had a choice, the LGB alliance wouldn't be here. The homophobes don't want her to have a choice.

ASugarr · 21/04/2021 07:32

Well if she ever comes to me she will have the right to confidential support and would all be about her choice.

I mean who do you think has helped with LGBTQ homelessness? Marriage rights? Equality act rights? Who do you think helps to fund and support the education system to include gay and lesbian people? Just a thought.

They have 37k followers on Twitter a quick look shows a vast majority of supportive voices are LGB so....

Pondering which organisation it is who thinks lesbians who don’t want to sleep with ppl with penises are phobic...🤔🤔 it’s in the tip of my tongue

Bonewall?
Stunwall?
Stonewill?

In years to come stonewall will be a case study in training on “mission drift”

Helleofabore · 21/04/2021 07:38

Well, I am convinced by all that evidence present up thread.

I am convinced that anyone who gives it credibility lacks any ability to critically evaluate information in their own capacity. They very obviously rely on other people to disseminate information for them.

EmpressWitchDoesntBurn · 21/04/2021 07:39

I read this the other day & thought it made some excellent points.

Seems to be the case these days. It possibly always was. But just more apparent just how much so, now that we have social media to expose the issue.

Helleofabore · 21/04/2021 07:45

LGB Alliance does focus on LGB people. They also have trans people who are members. It just doesn’t suit your interpretation of what LGB people need and that is ok. It is not a group for you. We know this, you have told us.

By what authority do you speak for ALL LGB people though? I am not sure you see the hypocrisy in your reasons for calling for the LGB Alliance to have its charity status revoked.

LGB Alliance
The Gay Spot Nov 2020

"Are gay men getting lost in the gender identity debate?
Should gay and bisexual men be worried by the rise of gender identity?
Is male same-sex attraction under attack as sex is erased in favour of gender?
Are the gay boys of today at risk of being told they’re really girls trapped in “the wrong body”?
Simon Fanshawe talks to Malcolm Clark, Lachlan Stuart and James Roberts."

ASugarr · 21/04/2021 07:47

I do want the charity status revoked. Because what have they actually done that is deemed charitable?

Mugginyouleftrightandcentre · 21/04/2021 07:47

Stonewall have donated their time, resources and money to thousands of schools and smaller charities across the country trying to keep LGBTQ youth safe. Having programmes for all sorts. Including the recent push to ban conversion therapy which is huge! They've done so much! Especially for young LGBTQ youth.

Whilst trying to dismantle women's rights. It's right here for all to see.

What do you think about this particular recommendation @ASugarr?
