LGB Alliance is now a registered charity

It took over a year...

"LGBA applied to register as a charity in March 2020. Its purposes are to promote equality and diversity and human rights.
The test of charity status is set out in law. A charity is an organisation with exclusively charitable purposes for the public benefit, that is subject to the jurisdiction of the High Court of England and Wales. If it meets these legal tests, it will be entered on the charity register.
It is not the Commission’s role to make value judgements about the aims or ideas put forward by any organisation. Instead, its role is to decide whether an organisation’s purposes fall within the legal definition of charity.
The Commission received a number of objections to the registration of LGBA as a charity. It carefully considered these as part of making its decision. In handling this application, the Commission has had regard to the Public Sector Equality Duty.
Registered charities fall under the Commission’s regulation, and their trustees must continuously meet the legal duties and responsibilities set down under charity law. A charity can promote the rights of one or more specific groups, but may not do so whilst demeaning or denigrating the rights of others, including on social media – and the Commission will consider taking regulatory action where that occurs.
The full decision, explaining the grounds for registering the organisation and the objections that were considered, can be found on GOV.UKK_"

Well I mean it's weird to pretend people are dead when they aren't

So deadnaming isn’t a thing, then? Oops.

tinsel Flowers to you.

yourhairiswinterfire · 20/04/2021 20:51

Probably won't be for long

The Charity Commission has already looked at ''evidence'' from people claiming LGBA are a ''hate group''. They don't agree. The smears and petitions didn't work before, they're unlikely to work now.

Worth repeating: 28.Promoting equality and human rights for lesbian, gay and bisexual people is not unlawful or contrary to public policy. A purpose of promoting the equality and human rights of lesbian, gay and bisexual people is not inherently discriminatory and does not necessarily have the effect of inhibiting the rights of transgender people.

I'll drink to that Wine

Calling a name dead is very different to calling and actual person dead.
TinselAngel · 20/04/2021 20:52

Do they still teach kids what an analogy is?

R0wantrees · 20/04/2021 20:53

Says the person who has literally spent the last two days trying to get trans widows Twitter shut down.

It speaks volumes of a person's integrity that they would target and attempt to silence a group of women providing support for other women who've been subject to abuse/harm from their husbands and those who identify as 'allies'.

LastRoloIsMine · 20/04/2021 20:54

I remember when LGBA was formed and I cannot believe how far they have come. Its amazing that their charity status will allow the charity to reach many more from the LGB community.

It isn't necessarily silencing. But no one should be referred to as dead.

TinselAngel · 20/04/2021 20:55

Yet these women remain unharangued:

NiceGerbil · 20/04/2021 20:56

So to say it was always gender and not sex is to be frank simply not true. I mean who would seriously say that was what it meant when set up.

By admitting some children but not others of both sexes, they are in breach of their exemption and potentially discriminating against the children they will not allow to join.

And what happens? Nothing.

Logical consistency isn’t really something you value, is it?

And yes, what R0 said.

Also harangue free:

Cool. You can have your opinion. If these 'widows' can call their ex partner dead then I'll be sure to talk about my mother and others I dislike as dead. Since it doesn't matter.
humanitariancrisis · 20/04/2021 20:58

Is that not what people already do?

As in the phrase “X or Y is dead to me”

ASugarr · 20/04/2021 20:59

[quote TinselAngel]Oh look another one:

Cool. You can think its fine. I personally don't and want twitter to monitor the content as some of it is very triggering.

Some do, but we are talking about dead dead. Like they no longer exist at all.
RabbitOfCaerbannog · 20/04/2021 21:01

Internalised misogyny is a powerful force.

Helleofabore · 20/04/2021 21:01

[quote RabbitOfCaerbannog]Little recap - the LGB Alliance have been granted charity status which is wonderful. Well done Alison & Kate et al. In order for this to happen the Charity Commission would have to do due diligence, scrutinising them extremely closely- including looking at their funding - so I think we can conclude that the smears they've been subject to are just that and have no basis in fact. For anyone who wants to read about their mission, you can find the details here...

This is very much worth repeating Rabbit!!

LastRoloIsMine · 20/04/2021 21:01

The phrase "you are dead to me" is widely used.
Go for your life love.

The only reason you want the Transwidows thread shut down is because their reality is not all glitter and stunning in favour of the transwomen they were/are in a relationship with. Anything less that full 100% support and you want it silenced.

Anyhow LGBA what's next for them now they are a charity?

I don't find that to be the same thing. But it's fine. I'm just going to say my mum is dead. If she finds out I don't care because she is dead. Not just to me. Just completely dead.
NiceGerbil · 20/04/2021 21:02

Sorry my two posts should have been next to each other!

On the men in the breast cancer place thing. Interesting.

My DH had to go to the breast clinic as he had a lump. I went with him because he hates hospitals and I correctly guessed that he would stick out like a sore thumb making both him and the other patients potentially uncomfortable.

When he had the scans there was indeed a little room with a few women waiting. They all looked surprised. I'm not surprised.

I'm trying to remember what happened. I think one of the exam rooms was free so we waited in there.

When it came to the scan obviously he went in and you could see the women sort of relax, change of atmosphere you know.

So men do need to go sometimes and that needs to be handled sensitively.

Men being allowed in that bit where yes the women were all untucked and everything. No. Space/ comfort etc.

What was he thinking, that charity bloke? And going to the press? I mean FGS.

Some men can't handle any door being closed to them is the problem.

InspiralCoalescenceRingdown · 20/04/2021 21:02

This figure of speech is a damp squid.

Scepticaltank · 20/04/2021 21:03

Are we back on ASugarrs mum again?

TinselAngel · 20/04/2021 21:04

I wonder if other groups might be inspired by this to consider applying for charitable status, I do hope so.

Sophoclesthefox · 20/04/2021 21:04

Ok, so I am back to my pledge to only engage with a purpose on here, because frankly, there’s little point otherwise, and it’s a drain on my limited energy to engage in silly spats that are basically “your mum”. I’m not twelve.

Am continuing to be happy that I will now be able to donate to lGb alliance through my CAF account, and reclaim Gift aid, and look forward to doing just that.
