LGB Alliance is now a registered charity

It took over a year...

"LGBA applied to register as a charity in March 2020. Its purposes are to promote equality and diversity and human rights.
The test of charity status is set out in law. A charity is an organisation with exclusively charitable purposes for the public benefit, that is subject to the jurisdiction of the High Court of England and Wales. If it meets these legal tests, it will be entered on the charity register.
It is not the Commission’s role to make value judgements about the aims or ideas put forward by any organisation. Instead, its role is to decide whether an organisation’s purposes fall within the legal definition of charity.
The Commission received a number of objections to the registration of LGBA as a charity. It carefully considered these as part of making its decision. In handling this application, the Commission has had regard to the Public Sector Equality Duty.
Registered charities fall under the Commission’s regulation, and their trustees must continuously meet the legal duties and responsibilities set down under charity law. A charity can promote the rights of one or more specific groups, but may not do so whilst demeaning or denigrating the rights of others, including on social media – and the Commission will consider taking regulatory action where that occurs.
The full decision, explaining the grounds for registering the organisation and the objections that were considered, can be found on GOV.UKK_"

Mimmybirthingparent has done a twitter thread of "evidence" of LGBA being a hate group. It consists mainly of Penis News articles and tweets from David Paisley.

The same person who tried and failed to bring a transphobic hate crime charge against a person who identifies as transsexual.

'Britain's first transgender hate crime trial is halted after one day as judge says 'there is no case and never was a case'

Britain's first transgender hate crime prosecution has been halted by a judge who declared: ‘There is no case and never was a case.’

Miranda Yardley, 51, was put ‘through ten months of hell’ after being accused of harassing a transgender activist on Twitter.

But District Judge John Woollard dismissed the case after a one-day hearing, saying there was simply no evidence. (continues)

Initially, Ms Islan’s complaint was dealt with by West Yorkshire Police before being passed to colleagues in Essex, who decided it was a hate crime.

But when the case reached court the defence referred to pages of social media posts in which Ms Islan herself was regularly tweeting about her trans child, about him taking blockers, that he had ‘come out’ at school.

The court heard that a simple search on Google brought up Ms Islan’s personal details, including a family photograph that she had herself posted.

At one point during the hearing, Judge Woollard said: ‘Where is the evidence [of harassment] taking into account the need for free speech? You have to show a course of conduct and at the moment we have one tweet.

Where is the evidence for Miranda Yardley outing Ms Islan’s son?’ Later he threw out the case and awarded costs to the defendant.

Yardley told The Mail on Sunday afterwards that he was ‘horrified’ by the decision to charge him, saying: ‘I faced losing everything I worked for.’ (continues)

Regina v Miranda Yardley: More DARVO from Helen Islan
POSTED ON 3RD MARCH 2019
(extract)
"In the Daily Mail today “Britain’s first transgender hate crime trial is halted after one day as judge says ‘there is no case and never was a case“, the complainant against me Helen Islan tries to distance herself from the proceedings which were brought in her name:

‘The decision to prosecute was made by the CPS, not me personally and I accept the verdict of the court.’

It does not surprise me she is trying to wash herself of responsibility. Having tried to blackmail the court by saying she was unprepared to give evidence unless her name was subjected to a press restrictions order, her evidence on Friday appeared to me to be incredibly dishonest as she attempted to distance herself from anything and everything she has said and done: apparently never having tweeted under her real name, it was ‘esoteric search engines’ which created and posted tweets under the name ‘Helen Islan’, as shown by screen captures of these tweets in the evidence bundle. In spite of admitting in her statement and even evidence given to open court that she was a volunteer with Mermaids, getting her to acknowledge anything was met with denial of the facts, attacks on my character and reversals… now where have we seen that before?" You are, of course, correct. I shall no longer attempt to play chess with the pigeon.

Me neither. Bunbury rules.

ASugarr · 20/04/2021 20:29

@Bordois

Am I not allowed to have an opinion?

Knock yourself out. Literally no one is stopping you.

Right definitely out now.

That's fine. Just seems like women on here want other women to be silenced. Which isn't very feminist of them.
adviceseekingnamechanger · 20/04/2021 20:29

Of course you're allowed an opinion. No-one has actually suggested you aren't? But no-one owes you replies. Especially when you display such a spectacular lack of critical thinking.

LastRoloIsMine · 20/04/2021 20:29

Please dont engage with posters who are just here for the screen shots and to link this thread on Twiiter.

Its not in the spirit of MN at all and frankly they are detracting from the wonderful news.

If nobody engages with this poster then hopefully they will get bored as they won't be able to get threads shut down.

RabbitOfCaerbannog · 20/04/2021 20:30

Little recap - the LGB Alliance have been granted charity status which is wonderful. Well done Alison & Kate et al. In order for this to happen the Charity Commission would have to do due diligence, scrutinising them extremely closely- including looking at their funding - so I think we can conclude that the smears they've been subject to are just that and have no basis in fact. For anyone who wants to read about their mission, you can find the details here...

The same person who tried and failed to bring a transphobic hate crime charge against a person who identifies as transsexual.

Yes that was embarrassing for her. Yet still she persists...

adviceseekingnamechanger · 20/04/2021 20:31

And again, no-one is 'silencing' you either. You are free to post whatever your opinions are. We're posters, not MN moderators.

I imagine that would look like the opposite of a mood board of inspiring quotations 🤣 what’s the opposite of inspo ? Despairo?

Yes.

Let’s keep the thread on track.

This. The charity commission acknowledged there had been objections to the application and would have investigated these as part of the process.

The fact is some people have decided that stonewall et al no longer represent them as stonewall are all about same gender relationship, while LGB are focused on same sex. Objecting to the latter is profoundly homophobic.

Datun · 20/04/2021 20:37

Strewth. All this horrific homophobia from those denigrating LGBA. Section 28 isn't really history at all.

LastRoloIsMine · 20/04/2021 20:38

It appears Twitter has calmed down a little and the fantastic news is no longer trending.

R0wantrees · 20/04/2021 20:39

@AnyOldPrion

As the mother of a lesbian who has already noticed the way her world is spoiled because of men in any potential lesbian space, who has told me if she and her friends want lesbian or women’s groups, they have to organise in secret, this makes me genuinely happy.

And the rapid growth around the world suggests it’s a much needed initiative.

Many women support LGB Alliance specifically in order that young women who are lesbians do not have to organise in secret.

Lesbians, bisexual and heterosexual women many of whom actually protested against Section 28 when they were younger.

It is utterly shameful that this should be the case in 2021 but the tide is turning.

InspiralCoalescenceRingdown · 20/04/2021 20:43

The LGB Alliance is a registered charity. Get over it!

Thank you for the recap on this brilliant news.

The European Super League has drowned out anything else on Twitter at the moment.

I was getting bored of the 'hate group' crap so am glad.

Good news for LGBA (and all the right wing American Christians funding them Grin)

Well I mean it's weird to pretend people are dead when they aren't.

Wishful thinking on your part but bollocks, ASugarr.

Other charities will most likely make comments against this and have this changed.
NiceGerbil · 20/04/2021 20:50

Good news.

The charities commission thing is interesting- when they act etc. I don't know what the process is.

But something I do know is

Girl guides have an exemption around equality and access etc to allow them to be single sex. Their charitable charter is based on supporting girls etc.

They have been around for an awfully long time.

They then said that they were a single gender org and more than that, always had been so.

'In 1909, a group of girls appeared at a Boy Scout Rally in the UK declaring themselves to be Girl Scouts. Lord Robert Baden-Powell, the founder of Boy Scouts, decided that there should be a Movement for girls.

Guiding was introduced that same year to respond to the specific needs of girls and young women. '

So in 1909, when this happened, when they said girls and young women, they meant young people who were male or female but had an internal gender ID of girl?

Seriously???!!!???
