She's mainly being pulled apart in the comments due to, you know, lying.

No doubt in my mind that she's getting puberty blockers and the contraceptive pill mixed up.

Such a shame as I have been following her since my early 20's and found her feminism very accessible back then.

Am I being unreasonable to say she's talking nonsense??

Yes she’s talking nonsense and she seems to have a tendency to do this, quite a lot of the time.

GNCQ · 14/04/2021 08:09

Yes I also was at school in the 90's and absolutely never heard of anyone on puberty blockers AT ALL let alone for heavy periods. I did however know at least two of my friends said they took the contraception pill for heavy periods or acne.

Stoptalkingtome · 14/04/2021 08:10

No, you're not. Jameela often gets herself in a pickle.

I took the pill for heavy periods at school. No one ever, ever mentioned or offered puberty blockers as an option. And to be honest, I've never seen that as an option ever since.

BadGherkin · 14/04/2021 08:11

Absolutely no one would be put on PUBERTY BLOCKERS for heavy periods. Many at my all girl school were on the pill for period issues, but the contraceptive pill is NOT a puberty blocker.

Someone needs to tell her she is absolutely wrong and sounds quite ignorant.

Queenoftheashes · 14/04/2021 08:11

Yeah you would have been given the pill not puberty blockers, that’s hilarious

Lifeaintalwaysempty · 14/04/2021 08:11

She’s talking dangerous nonsense. What happened to her!

Dozer · 14/04/2021 08:12

Yeah, sounds like rubbish, was the pill.

EdgeOfACoin · 14/04/2021 08:12

Yes, the oral contraceptive pill was prescribed for heavy periods.

Puberty blockers...no.

Where do people get these ideas from??

highame · 14/04/2021 08:13

I think puberty blockers would have been used for precocious puberty. They were then used for gender dysphoria.

MsTSwift · 14/04/2021 08:14

Who is she? Whoever she is she is not very bright to mix up the Pill and puberty blockers! Embarrassing.

GizmoBasil · 14/04/2021 08:14

Oh don't worry, everyone in the replies are!

Someone posted a link to the statistics of Precocious Puberty showing it's 1 in 150,000.
Must have been a fucking big school!

yetanotherusernameAgain · 14/04/2021 08:16

Puberty blockers are used for precocious puberty but that's puberty before the age of 8. Would be very surprised if she had known "loads" of girls suffering from early puberty, or had even been aware of it at primary school.

Mugginyouleftrightandcentre · 14/04/2021 08:17

She is notorious for, ahem, 'inconsistencies' about her past, so I would imagine this is another one of those times where she has got herself a little bit mixed up.

I was also at an all girls school in the 90s and can confirm that puberty blockers for heavy periods was not A Thing.

ComDummings · 14/04/2021 08:17

Yeah she’s definitely got them confused with the pill. This is why celebrities having a platform is dangerous, they spread misinformation and people will believe them.

highame · 14/04/2021 08:19

Couldn't agree more ComD

MoltenLasagne · 14/04/2021 08:19

Puberty blockers are so toxic that even when properly used for precocious puberty the handling guidelines requires you wear gloves and change clothes after injecting. It strictly warns against washing those clothes with non-contaminated clothes.

Women (some may call them cis-women) who were on the drugs for precocious puberty have been in long legal battles to try to get compensation for the side effects they have suffered.

So no Jameela, these are not just easy pills to pop with no side effects, and actually the horrific consequences of these have been called out for over 20 years by the victims long before they became the wonder drug for gender non conforming children.

cinnamonroll1 · 14/04/2021 08:20

They're also used for endometriosis sometimes. So maybe she knew a girl with heavy painful periods due to endo, who was on them? Or perhaps I'm being too charitable...

Fromage · 14/04/2021 08:21

She's confused.

If a transwoman wants to bring down her testosterone in order to compete in some professional sports, she goes on the pill.

I think jamila has the two mixed up.

Hope her partner is using condoms because jamila might well be popping a Smartie everynday, thinking it's birth control. She doesn't have the best grasp on the subject but then she listens to monroe bergdorf so what hope is there?

Umbivalent · 14/04/2021 08:22

She means well, but unfortunately she is quite dim.

GizmoBasil · 14/04/2021 08:22

This is why celebrities having a platform is dangerous, they spread misinformation and people will believe them

Agreed. I also don't like how she's made it into yet another war between trans and cis (her words), saying 'Because they were cis it was fine".

Even if this were true (its not) people are responding with articles about the damage PB's do , no doubt a lot of which wouldn't have been known about in the 90's.

So all in all it's not going well for her in the Twittersphere right now.

OP posts:
ASugarr · 14/04/2021 08:24

Actually she isn't wrong. If taken correctly, they are reversible.

GizmoBasil · 14/04/2021 08:24

Ffs I'm out hahahaha Grin

OP posts:
GizmoBasil · 14/04/2021 08:26

@ASugarr do you have a source for that?
Do you really think there were 'loads' of girls at her school on PB's and she isn't getting confused with the contraceptive pill?

OP posts:
BadGherkin · 14/04/2021 08:27

This is so dangerous. All those people agreeing with her and thanking her for speaking out about denying puberty blockers to trans children only.....

The tweet needs to be deleted and a retraction and apology posted to try to contain the fallout - but given the author and history, I very much doubt that will occur.

YouNoob · 14/04/2021 08:27

@ComDummings

Yeah she’s definitely got them confused with the pill. This is why celebrities having a platform is dangerous, they spread misinformation and people will believe them.

You just know that the misinformation is going to spread from that one tweet and before you know what's happening, it'll be spouted as fact.
