Laurence Fox answers Women’s Place UK questions

ChristinaXYZ · 19/03/2021 19:04

As a candidate for London mayor Laurence Fox has answered five questions on women's rights and it is a breath of fresh air. Highlights being:

First of all, the police cannot protect what it does not define. We acknowledge that women are adult human females. They are vulnerable as a result of biological sex.

Acknowledge that The Equality Act 2010 provides legislative protection for women by virtue of their sex. We will enforce it without fear or favour and protect the rights of women to single sex spaces.

Ring fence funding for single-sex refuges and support services

Lets hope this puts pressure on the other candidates

Laurence Fox proudly claimed he broke up with his ex because she was a vocal supporter of Christine Blasey Ford.

Christine Blasey Ford accused the Brett Kavanaugh, a US Supreme Court nominee, of sexually assaulting her in high school in 1982.

He is basically an extreme un pc libertarian. Not evil. Not alt right. Bit of a dick. Refreshingly unfettered. Far far less dangerous than the magisterium.

I totally agree with this.
I think he’s a good candidate for the mayor and would vote for him were I a Londoner

He might be just what London needs after the shower of shit that is Sadiq Khan

PotholeHellhole · 19/03/2021 22:19

He didn't believe Dr Ford?!

Juliesipadwillcallyouback · 19/03/2021 22:19

Laurence Fox is an absolute bellend. As if he gives a fuck about women's rights. But he has seen an opportunity.

This is exactly what has happened with the Tories and also UKIP/Brexit. Loads of traditional Labour voters were alienated by the Labour Party for not being 'woke' enough, told they were awful bigots, thick etc. Enter Conservatives/UKIP etc to lend a friendly ear and make people feel like they were being listened to, and Labour is currently a laughing stock.

Laurence Fox can 'speak out' on this stuff because he is a privileged white male who appeals to a specific demographic, largely also white males, who literally don't give a shit about what anyone thinks of them because they don't have to.

I actually think Laurence Fox will do better in any election than people think. Look at Trump!

Juliesipadwillcallyouback · 19/03/2021 22:24

And, as ever, I am disgusted that politicians like Keir Starmer are too chicken shit to even say what a woman is, and we are left with twats like Fox to talk about women's rights!

BattyOrange · 19/03/2021 22:42

I like the description of Fox as "refreshingly unfettered"
Having been cancelled after the QT episode, he's very anti-woke - very much a proponent of individual freedom of thought and speech. Politically, he comes across as a novice. I doubt he'll win the mayoral election but there are plenty of voters out there who are similarly "refreshingly unfettered"...

PotholeHellhole · 19/03/2021 22:45

Yes. I think there is a very good possibility that Keir Starmer is planning to have a Damascene conversion to supporting women's rights after us women have done the hard work of making it a politically safe position. Until then, he'll leave Rosie Duffield out to dry. Angry

But in the mean time, he's leaving this political niche wide open for people like Laurence Fox.

SunsetBeetch · 19/03/2021 23:08

Sometimes it takes an outsider competitor to force an issue. It's what UKIP did to the Tories. They sunk like a stone once their work was done. I'm not a Ukipper or a Leaver of any stripe, just commenting on the mechanism.

That's how I'm looking at it. More sunlight too, as we like to say.

MapGirlExtraordinaire · 19/03/2021 23:20

LF is odious. I'll try and find some links and post at some point, but self appointed, entitled heir of Farage springs to mind. The fact that he's saying what GC women want to hear right now is coincidence / opportunity rather than any deeply held desire for equality.

I mainly listed to tell Belleende that knob jockey is homophobic, its one which slips through with many people my age but I'd advise scrubbing it from your vocab.

VodkaSlimline · 19/03/2021 23:22

This is a tricky one. I will not vote for anyone who says trans women are women or generally promotes any similar woke bullshit, but on every other issue, I think Sadiq Khan's great. I'm not crazy about Laurence Fox but I always end up putting my feminism first. Nothing else matters as much to me.

PeterPomegranate · 19/03/2021 23:24

I can’t support LF for London mayor. even though I support women’s rights. There’s just too many problems with him. He stands NO chance in London in my opinion.

Regularsizedrudy · 19/03/2021 23:26

Today I’ve seen threads on Laurence fox, Julie birchill, dicky dawkins.. you lot are really scraping the bottom of the barrel

PotholeHellhole · 19/03/2021 23:34

From his responses, I don't feel he's deeply engaged with GC feminists. Which surprises me very little.

It goes beyond toilets, although the urinary leash is important. I'm not sure where the mayor's power starts and ends, but I'm also concerned about single-sex changing rooms in public facilities, and provision of single-sex abuse refuges, single-sex homelessness hostels. And I want single-sex swimming sessions ringfenced as untouchable.

But hopefully he'll start a bit of a conversation, and get a public airing of the issue. If we're just a horrible minority of bigots, then the other candidates have nothing to fear from being public about their support for unisex toilets, do they?

TinselAngel · 19/03/2021 23:39

The more I see of him the more I feel sorry for Billie Piper.

NonnyMouse1337 · 19/03/2021 23:41

If his sensible sounding answers to WPUK will prod the cowards standing for election to say something in defense of women's rights, then that would be a good outcome. I seriously doubt he would win.

You clearly haven't read the threads, then, genius.

Annie, did you not know that feminists aren't permitted to discuss official Mayoral candidates? Even to acknowledge Fox's existence and his attempts to get our votes is to endorse him. In fact, if you even look at his website, that's the same thing as donating to his party and voting for him

I'm told there was a memo.

Well, this was productive. Hmm

Seriously, thanks OP for letting us know.

NiceGerbil · 20/03/2021 00:17

He did this on the 13th presumably as a reaction to the things that have happened in response to Sarah Everard's case.

The Tories and labour also suddenly started talking about women. Labour in particular seemed to imply they knew what women were. Which was a bit rich.

And anyway. He's a total wanker.

PotholeHellhole · 20/03/2021 00:19

Well, make up your own mind.

delingpoleworld.com/52-laurence-fox-16-01-20/

I'll admit here I never got through the whole thing. I stopped somewhere after a part where Fox explains he objected to the Gillette ad about toxic masculinity because he doesn't think ads should tell him what to do.

Er, Laurence. All ads tell you what to do. It's kind of their raison d'être.

Gillette that he didn't like. time.com/5503156/gillette-razors-toxic-masculinity/
