What does CIS mean?

Babysharkdoodoodood · 15/03/2021 23:34

I mean really?
I was discussing (ranting) about this with DH today. Trying to explain why I'm a woman and not a cis female.

Then he come out with this beauty (not being nasty): Doesn't it just mean Cunt In Situ?

I was absolutely howling Grin mainly because it's true

You’re not answering just deflecting.

Can you tell me what the chromosome make up is for a make or female- how do you write it?

MarshaBradyo · 17/03/2021 13:07

Male

Ereshkigalangcleg · 17/03/2021 13:09

I mean, that's just me taking a moment to pick out a few. I'm sure they would be interested in being educated by you.

It's an anodyne political statement virtue signalling that sex is "complicated", by which they mean disorders of sex development can occur. I'm pretty sure they do actually know how babies are made, whatever anti Trump posturing they felt they should do.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 17/03/2021 13:10

That some academics signed it just makes me question what the hell is going on in their world that they thought it a good idea to publicly put their name to tosh like "there is no scientific way to tell the sex of a mammal."

Quite. The rot has set in deep in academia.

BernardBlackMissesLangCleg · 17/03/2021 13:11

@Shizuku, can I just check? Do you actually understand how babies are made?

30PercentRecycled · 17/03/2021 13:12

Imagine for one ludicrous moment that scientists lost the ability to determine sex from, say, a blood sample.

What's that got to do with re-classifying women as cis-women?

HermitsLife · 17/03/2021 13:15

I honestly don't understand the ire. Personally I would never misgender someone intentionally, I would never do anything to cause someone intentional upset someone, but the door swings both ways. Define yourself as you wish but you don't get to define other people by your terms too.

HermitsLife · 17/03/2021 13:16

The more I hear the justification for this the more I'm reminded of infidels and heathens as other PP have mentioned.

PegLegAntoine · 17/03/2021 13:21

Indeed. The mental gymnastics would be funny if the consequences weren’t so dire
continuallyconflating · 17/03/2021 13:23

Most scientists will tell you that sex is complex and quite difficult to define.

No they won't
Most scientists will tell you that accept for in a tiny minority of cases, sex is extremely easy too determine

And in these cases of DSD, there are now clear protocols and treatment pathways.
It really isn't the case that doctors look at DSD neonates, toss a coin and hope for the best

If you put two pigs with willies in an enclosue, will there or will there not be any resulting piglets that will feed your family over winter?

Our distant ancestors knew the answer.

It’s just struck me that for a group of people so focused on the rights of people to called or referred to as they wish, it’s then really inconsistent to persist in referring to females as ‘cis women’ who don’t want to be referred to in that way.

BernardBlackMissesLangCleg · 17/03/2021 13:29

It’s almost like what’s sauce for the goose isn’t sauce for the gander innit?

So you would be happy to compromise - you don't get called cis, and you, in turn don't call trans women men.

But how do you tell which bird can be sauced!ShockGrin
BernardBlackMissesLangCleg · 17/03/2021 13:38

It’s literally a mystery Errol

Scientists can’t tell you know

As previously said I think most here would happily call transwomen transwomen ,for clarity , that's not calling them men , in most circumstances

midgedude · 17/03/2021 13:39

I though being trans was no longer considered a mental health condition?

That's what happens more often than not on this board IME. I'll call a transwoman a transwoman. Male/female are factual sex descriptors so there's sometimes no option but to use them accurately.

continuallyconflating · 17/03/2021 13:40

Looking at a couple of the points in that letter: (Which again uses DSD individuals to do all the heavy lifting)

The relationship between sex chromosomes, genitalia, and gender identity is complex, and not fully understood.
Not surprising as no one has yet come up with a non circular definition of gender identity

There are no genetic tests that can unambiguously determine gender, or even sex.
re gender: Not surprising as a genetic test is unlikely to show a social construct
re "or even sex": A very odd statement that isn't referenced and must be placing an undue burden on the qualifier "unambiguous"

Furthermore, even if such tests existed, it would be unconscionable to use the pretext of science to enact policies that overrule the lived experience of people’s own gender identities.
And this seems to be saying, lets ignore evidence based reality and rely on atomised individual feels

BernardBlackMissesLangCleg · 17/03/2021 13:40

So you would be happy to compromise - you don't get called cis, and you, in turn don't call trans women men.

Ah, so the word ‘cis’ is a way of punishing non compliant women

Now we’re getting to the nub

Shizuku · 17/03/2021 13:42

Our distant ancestors knew the answer.

Are they Vanuatu pigs by any chance?

"Finally, the third, and possibly most bizarre secret hidden inside the DNA of Vanuatu sacred pigs is centred around the Rawe – a revered Narave intersex pig. Yes, believe it or not, this pig has both male and female sexual organs – an exceeding rare condition called male pseudohermaphroditism (say that 3 times fast!), It usually only occurs in 1 out of every 20,000 births and results in an adult pig with female external sexual organs and male internal sexual organs – in other words, tusks and teats! Somehow Vanuatu islanders managed to create a whole new breed of these highly prized pigs for kastom ceremonies by interbreeding them over thousands of years! Some can still be found on the more remote Vanuatu islands today, including Malo Island, just off Espiritu Santo."
