Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Why don't we centre women?

This is a feminism board but 99% of the threads are about trans people or gender identity.

What about domestic violence, FGM, the gender pay gap, period poverty, and representation in the workplace?

It seems like this board believes the only threat to women is trans people.

Am I missing something?

Women on here campaign endlessly on all matters that relate to women. We are beginning to resent the energy spent on explaining why we need eg women only spaces to people that have come on here with the main aim of disruption. Hope you have contributed to the many fundraisers that exist for women’s projects and justice in the courts.

ArabellaScott · 04/03/2021 11:02

What nonsense, OP. Lots of threads on other topics, can you just not be arsed to even look for yourself? I'm not doing your work for you.

Off the top of my head there's an interesting thread on play parks and spaces for girls and another on women using the outdoors. I've also seen several ones on reproductive rights.
Your options are find one of these or start your own.
However, to centre women you have to know what one is. I think there are several boards still thrashing it out, as the dictionary definition is not inclusive enough for some.

PurpleHoodie · 04/03/2021 12:34

Thanks for this thread.

I wouldn't have known about Hibo's t-shirts.

Brilliant news. I hope she sells out.

Gcnq · 04/03/2021 12:52

To be fair, if trans activists weren't so hellbent on wrecking women's rights, there wouldn't be so many threads about it on here, a women's rights forum.

PotholeParadies · 04/03/2021 13:24

Six t-shirts sold for Hibo!

Roll up, roll up. It's what everyone might be wearing next time there's a Filia conference!

7Days · 04/03/2021 14:49

Brilliant, I'll buy one on payday

CuriousaboutSamphire · 04/03/2021 15:16

Be fair to @7Days it's Thursday, first post was on Wednesday. Maybe they'll be back on Sunday, whilst 'chilling'

CuriousaboutSamphire · 04/03/2021 15:19

Bugger! That was such fun to type, but was aimed at the wrong poster!

My most sincere apologies for the, at te time, fully intended slur on your intellect @7days

And look! The real OPs username is just begging for a snigger! But my heart's not in it!

AmericanSlang · 04/03/2021 17:17

Thanks to all who linked to Hibo's fundraiser, the harassment she was getting on Twitter for focusing on women was unbelievable, but also an illustration of the bullshit around intersectional feminism and inclusivity. Basically feminists can't win - if we try to discuss any issues around women (eg pregnancy, birth, infertility, FGM, PCOS literally anything) we are told you can't talk about that, you're excluding trans people. If we try to talk about how discussing women's issues is being shut down by trans ideology, we are told off for always talking about trans and not about other issues.

Does anyone have a t shirt and know how the sizes come up? I've got lots of biscuit lockdown weight but don't know if XL is enormous.

PotholeParadies · 04/03/2021 17:27

I wish I could tell you, but I don't have mine yet.

If you click about, it gives the size of each in inches and I fretted a lot about which one was right. I got the tape-measure out and measured round the biscuit-norkage, and then plumped on the size of caution.

Delphinium20 · 04/03/2021 17:49

Because I saw that very same bloke arguing with MNHQ on twitter today, although I didn't pay attention to what he was arguing about.*

I'm not sure, but MNGQ did a great job of explaining that they were happy the surrogacy board had plenty of robust conversations from different sides of the debate so no need to shut things down.

Delphinium20 · 04/03/2021 17:52

Oh and yes! I hadn't heard of Hidbo until seeing her mentioned on MN so I'm very grateful to have learned how I can help her in her fight against FGM. I'm in the states in a community where there are high rates of FGM yet it's not as high profile an issue as I feel it can be. It's these connections that make me feel women can move forward and help other women and children. I'm ever so grateful for connections I've made via MN.

Delphinium20 · 04/03/2021 17:52

*Hibo. Weird autocorrect

Ninkanink · 04/03/2021 20:38

OP. I definitely agree with everything you’ve said.

As a long-standing member of this board, I totally agree with all your points. Thank you for educating us.

**please understand that not all words I use might make sense to you. They may or may not mean the things you think they mean. However, I 100% know what I mean, and that is all that matters. Again, thank you.

TheBuffster · 04/03/2021 20:48

Ugh the tape measure of doom awaits. The biscuit legacy soon to be revealed.

That's great news.

FGM is - on paper - illegal now in the UK.

Keep fighting the food fight over in America.

PurpleHoodie · 04/03/2021 21:00

Good fight. Good fight!

This is NOT the Great British Bake Off Grin

7Days · 04/03/2021 21:04

No worries curiousaboutSamphire!

Ninkanink · 04/03/2021 21:08

Food fight 😆

Delphinium20 · 04/03/2021 22:10

I like the idea of a sweet fight - like old fashioned pie fights

Ninkanink · 04/03/2021 22:14

Just to be clear, in case it seems like I’m making light of extremely important issues mentioned/discussed on this thread, I’m absolutely not! My earlier reply(ies) were simply trying to lighten my own mood a little.

Flowers and Star to all advocates for protections of women and girls who endure such horrendous experiences.

PotholeParadies · 05/03/2021 00:05

Nink, I'm sure absolutely no-one thought you would do anything like that!
