Bugger. That thread really annoyed me and my couldn't post as I have had my first ever strike (I forgot that being acerbic is bad enough, adding that to a flippant, gendered comment got me placed in the naughty step).

Maybe Maya will get a reasoned response!

There were really excellent posts on that thread. Great humour & lots of unanswered questions. I copied & pasted two paragraphs from a previous poster to voice my agreement with (one of the LangCleg named people I think), which has now been deleted.

I've just repasted the two paragraphs into a word document & they are bloody spot on. Women have the right to their own political spaces and representation. That's it. No violent threats or abuse. None. Just a passionate voice speaking up for women.

Then my eye catches this line in my eagerly awaited Radical Notion that arrived today, about the centenary issue of Time & Tide (pp4-5)
"The vote was not won by sweet reasonableness, it was won by self- sacrifice and courage and -above all- by that most difficult of all forms of courage, the courage to appear violent, unreasonable, ugly."

As has been observed many times it's not how we say things that really matters it's the fact that we are even saying them. Hence all the 'know your place' comments.

There’s a new Radical Notion?

Some trans women have the view that radical feminists are obsessed with trans women rather than focussing on the many real issues facing women in our society. Would the fact that this thread will shortly pass 900 posts tend to support that opinion?

Yep, started turning up from 16th Feb according to this thread. We are having big delays in general with the post so was very pleased to see it when I got back from work today.

Well done all. I had a first deletion recently for incivility, for using a single word. I'd taken pains to be conciliatory and empathetic in my post. I was surprised at how stung I felt at the deletion. I did email MNHQ who said it wasn't a strike. I think the whole thing highlights so clearly that people are not able to discuss things any more.

As for our ‘guests’ I didn’t even know who they were but whilst reading the first post I could quickly tell they were not a woman, absolutely dripping with entitlement and the attitude of ‘this is how I feel and you have to accept it’ bleeds toxic masculinity
It really felt like solidarity and like all the FWR ladies were contributing to a possibly historic thread

The elephant in the room for me is that no one wants to really talk about how the structure and culture of the two party system is just so toxic to women.

Because that would require parliament getting its head out of its own arse.

No without wholesale democratic reform and reform of our voting system which I can't see happening in the foreseeable future. Its not even on the agenda.
